What's to say that hasn't already been said? Great work, Joe! I think the liquid frisket chips may be a touch over scale, but it doesn't detract from the overall build, really. Plus, considering the pilot was credited with five B-17s, I'm guessing his plane saw it's fair share of shrapnel.

The FW190 I just finished took over 9 months to complete, what did this take you, 9 days?

Thanks Max. Yeah I think this particularly technique is better reserved for larger scales, wing roots, or anything late war Japanese...lol. That or I need to find a sponge with smaller pores. I will stick with my AK chipping fluid in 1/48 from now on I think. I do love to experiment as my quest for the perfect techniques continue...at least for me. Whistling

I wish I could build a model in 9 days. I had to take a break from the B-25 when I ordered some stuff for it, so I started this and the zero at the same time. When I finished the B-25 I went back and finished up these two.

Another absolute masterpiece. I think the chipping and fading is just right. I'm sure they were flying multiple sorties per day so had no time for paint touch up

Thanks Johnny. Your probably right, especially at this time during heavy allied bombing. It's actually growing on me.

I thought about painting the checkerboards on my F84 but that would have been very complex so I went with the decals.

I guess I have to start with that checkered cowling. *clap clap!! Well executed. Did you have to change the geometry of the squares a bit around the curve on the front of the cowling? I've yet to paint checkers on anything but it seems like the the curve would have those squares bow out like a trapezoid a bit. Definitely worth the effort. It's a show stopper. Thanks for sharing your approach. Everything here looks phenomenal Joe. You certainly know your way around a 190. I even like the mud. I'm gonna have to get around to playing with that one day.

Are you noticing a difference in the retooling from Eduard kits? It seems like the rivet detail has been bumped up significantly from older models.

Thanks Britt. I curved it a little. I just squeezed the tape with tweezers towards the front of the cowl. Tamiya tape is easy to manipulate.

Yes, Eduard is at the top of their game right now. Awesome surface detail. I look forward to trying their spit Mk. I.

I just finished this one and thought I'd share it. It's the newer tooled Eduard Fw 190 in the A-6 boxing. Truthfully, the main reason I built it was because I liked the JG 1 checker nosed machine on the box art. White 9 was flown by Gunther Luck in the Summer of 1943. JG 1 was based out of Holland at the time and assigned to defense of the Reich. Luck would shoot down 5 B-17 bombers in this turkey.

I always liked the checker nosed 190s. It's my understanding they were painted in this manner to be flamboyant, as they enjoyed air superiority in 1943. This reportedly changed when P-47s with similar checkered painted cowlings (78th FG perhaps?) strafed an airfield and ground AA crews thought they were JG 1 machines and didn't shoot.....oops! Anyways, I digress, I wanted to see if I could paint on the checkers and do this kit justice with some weathering, as the cowl would be the main focal point. Using the decals for reference, I used tamiya tape and added the checkers. It was actually easier than I thought once I got going.

I sprayed the white and this is the result. I'm quite pleased. Before paint, I used the liquid frisket over silver for chipping. It turned out ok, but I think this technique is better served for larger scales as I didn't want it this dinged up. Oh well. I'll stick with AK chipping fluids for 1/48 as I'll have more control.

AK Real Colors were used.

Markings were painted on with Montex masks then everything was sealed with X-22/Mr. Leveling Thinner gloss coat. Lines were washed with AK Panel liners.
