1/48 Hasegawa Ju-87 B-2 Stuka II/StG 2 “Immelmann” (Finished)

I figured I'd share my latest project, the Hasegawa Ju-87 B-2 Stuka. I was requested to build "Black Dog" of II/StG2 from the "Immelmann" Squadron based out of the Balkins in 1941.  Truthfully I don't know much about Stuka Squadrons other than they were easy meat on the table for Allied fighters.  Regardless, it's still one of the coolest looking warbirds in my opinion.

I was going to use the new Airfix kit but they screwed up the canopy by molding the sliding portion in one piece, stacked in the open position! Apparently this makes it impossible to paint inner frames...dumb.  I refuse to use vaccuform, and I don't like building with closed canopies, so in the stash it shall stay until I find another solution.  I guess that Battle of Britain Stuka will have to wait.

I digress, the Hasegawa kit is still decent.  I added PE belts and Quickboost barrels.  Markings were painted on with the use of Montex masks. I decided to leave the lousy molded on flap hinges alone.  I reasoned that the underside will be rarely seen for that amount of work required.  It's my understanding the Jericho Trumpet sirens had been removed by this point, but you can't build a Stuka without at least one.  I fired one onto the port leg.  Paint is AK Real Colors. I'm really starting to like these paints.

Thats superbly done, great finish and nice well used weathering. Yiour right about the Airfix canopy, i just finished the 72nd kit and the open canopy is a major let down. But i didn't have much choice but to use it.

Judging from the yellow tail band and wingtips, i would guess this is from the earkly days of the Russian campaign (the fuselage band and wingtips were not painted for the balkans.

Yup, that open canopy was an absolute disaster.  Maybe that's the last time we'll ever see that from that company. Nice build LD!

I would not count on it Chad, they have been doing it for a few years on a few different kits. I found it worked on the Gladiator but not so good on the Stuka.

Looks fantastic. I like the chipping on the leading edges of the wings. I may have to add a Stuka to my build list. Congrats.

Thanks Johnny.  It's definitely one of the cooler Stuka schemes.

Thanks Bish.  One of the drawings I was using as reference erroneously said Balkins.  Truthfully I don't know much about these units.

Yep, otherwise it would be on the bench right now. Whoever designed that should be fired.  Thanks Chad

Thanks Hoss.  I'm stating to get more comfortable with the AK chipping fluid.

Thanks goose, they nailed the RLM colors to my eye.  I just wish they were more flat like the Tamiya XF line.  I find flat paints easier to fade and weather.

I think the yellow nose confused it. Its the first time i have seen one with that plus the yellow theartre bands.

Here's the pic I used for reference.  The illustrator was likely wrong about the nose and theater.
