Awesome work LD! Love the Jug! Well done man!

Special congrats on having the patience for masking the cowling! Looks great.

I have some AK extremes in my stash which I bought recently and will give them a shot soon I hope. How long do they take to dry? Do you thin them or spray directly from the bottle? Any tips for using them?

Thanks in advance.

Best,

Nikola

Thanks Nikola,  Truthfully, I like Alclad better.  I find the AK to be quite fragile and it does seem to take quite awhile to dry.  They are sprayed directly from the bottle and do go down nice and smooth though.  I will continue to use it as long as I don't have to tape over it.

Great work, Joe. I know what you mean about the work painting the checkered nose. I did the same thing building the "Big Beautiful Doll". I looks amazing and way better than decals, but I'm in no hurry to do that again.

Thanks Brandon.  I hear ya.  I want to do Glenn Duncan's Dove of Peace P-51 eventually but I'm not looking forward to this again....lol.

Nice work sir! What number of Tamiya P-47s is this for you? I guess Dora Wings is coming out with a P-47B. I'm excited to see how it will compare!

Thanks bud. I'm usually good for one or two a year. I've probably built 15 or 20 so far. I call these therapy builds because they generally stress free. Not only is the Thunderbolt one of my favorite airplanes, this kit is stupid good.

When I first started this hobby, I built a few stinkers and almost gave up. On a whim I bought this kit at Hobby Lobby and it was so painless to build, I decided to stick with the hobby. So I suppose there's some sentimental issues there as well.

Dora wings will have some big shoes to fill.

Beautiful build as usual. Great looking NMF and killer work on the cowl diamonds. Beer

I have used both Alclad and AK Real Metal and find the AK stuff easier to apply and both look great after application. I discovered AK Gauzy Shine Enhancer to seal the metallic paints to avoid the masking tape from lifting spots when removed. This Gauzy product sprays better than any other clear I have used and doesn't change a thing in the paint after application.

Thanks PJ.  Thanks for the information.  I have the Gauzy but have yet to use it.  I bought it with the intention of adding glass dials to instrument panels.  I'll give it a shot.

You are welcome. There are two Gauzy products, one is a liquid in a bottle for spraying and the other is a biit thicker in a smaller jar container is for dipping clear parts. Don’t know which of the two you have.

Now:

That's a Jug I could love. Looks like a lot of flight time, But, realistically!

Thanks TB

Greg

All of your builds are so good that it becomes a challenge to comment, Joe.

However, every now and again one really stands out, and though as usual I can't explain quite why, this is one of them. YesYesYes

The overall finish looks perfect, and I have to agree with everyone else, that cowling is eye-popping. I don't think I'd have ever thought to cut out little individual diamond masks.

Thanks Greg.  Far from perfect, but I'm happy with it.  I'm thinking about keeping this one for a while.

Well, as I said, I finished her up the other night.  To recap, It's a build that was inspired by a picture I saw in a book, Rat A Dat 3, flown by Kenneth Gallup, barreling down guns blazing.  I do love aviation art.  He was a 109 killer with 7 of them shot down by him.

Aside from the AK Xtreme mishaps, I'm pretty happy with this turkey. The Tamiya P-47 is perhaps the best kit ever made, my opinion of course.  I find it pure modeling bliss.  I have started my first Pacific Thunderbolt as well, Kearby's Fiery Ginger IV.  I could be in Thunderbolt mode for some time.

I have this one loaded up for a long bomber escort mission with three drop tanks. I considered bombs but I wasn't sure if the 353rd did much bombing, so I went the safe route.

Love those checkers! Gotta agree they probably weren't perfect in real life. Yours look damn good tho in scale. Nothing to be worried about there.

Thanks Goose.  My thoughts exactly....

Outstanding as always.  Would the diamond masking been easier using one of those Infini cutting mats?

Thanks! Probably, I seem to always do things the hard way.  Builds character.....
