Well I finally got around to taking some pics of my Yugumo and posting them. I am happy with how she turned out, My first ship build in nearly 30 years. It was a good learning experience.

Of course I reserve the right to add things like rigging in the futureWhistling

Vette, thank you for the kind words. I am very happy with how my first GB went here. I am kicking aroudn the idea of an Arab Israeli wars GB starting in June. I'll float the idea next month and if there are enough folks, it will be a go.

All right I am calling this one done! My first group build and I am done on the due date! Boy this was close. These first pics a I meant to post a couple of weeks ago. Better late than never.

The previous pics were taken after the decaling and weathering were done. The next ones I took today of the finished product. I may still add some oil streaks and exhaust streaks but here goes!

Oh, I still need to add the MG in rear seat. Anyway this was fun and I hope you guys enjoy the pics. Oh one more thing she did end up being from the Shokaku instead of the Zuikaku due to a decal mishap with tail id numbers. Both ships were present at the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. Enjoy!

YesNicely done Mac. The title is fitting to the scene, and the scene is very well laid out. Enough action to show what is happening without overwhelming or distracting the viewer and becoming confusing. The ground work is done equally well, with just enough to show the locale, without becoming the focal point. Course if I was one of the Marines I'd have cooked one of them eggs, settin on the sandbags, then tossed it at the charging Japs.

I share you interest in the PTO, although for different reasons. I agree 110% about the lesser choices for PTO subjects, at least from the figure and vehicle side. I know the Aircraft and Ship sides are quite well reresented. With good reason. I look forward to seeing more of your PTO work hereToast

All the way!

Stikpusher

thanks for the kind comments The figures are Master box with a few conversations As you can tell I,m very interested in the PTO

The Model Makers all make ETO kits but very few regarding the Pacific.Being a former U.S. Marine I guess why that interested me.

Thanks again

Great work on the Dio Mac. I hope to see more pics of the finished product.  I am frantically trying to complete my Kate before the end date but things keep coming up to slow me down. I guess its like playing golf, the closer to the hole you get the harder it gets. I don't want to rush to much which will sacrifice quality. More later and keep up the good work.

There are some 03 Springfield's in an old accessory set that has been reissued also under the Italeri label. I don't know how they would fit on the 1/32 Airfix, but maybe. Or you can modify some Kar 98s off Airfix Germans. I know the options are very limited and the Airfix figures are not the best choice for Marines on Guadalcanal.

They are Airfix Multipose figures. I used them mainly because they were in my stash and I need Japanese in different positions Unfortunately I can't kind Airfix Multipose Marines But.I have various body parts i can put together. One of the problems I am having is the armament for the Marines. The M1 Garand was not used on the Canal I try to come up with something. Any suggestions?

Mac, I really like how this is coming along! I wanna see the Marines in position letting loose! Coming on the heels of teh first two episodes of The Pacific, this is quite timely. Are those Airfix multipose figures?

Oh yes I watched it. And yes I did enjoy all the Guadalcanal scenes, although they barely touched upon the air or sea aspect of that battle. The Savo Island battle was very impressive to see. I am looking forward to episode II this Sunday. I tried to put the episode I recorded on our DVR onto DVD (for personal use), but it appears HBO puts some kind of electronic block to prevent this. Ah well, guess I will have to wait until it is released to own it.

On the modeling front, yesterday I did some paint touch up work on the Yugumo. Unfortunately those Tamiya paints when hand brushed do not match the surrounding area. The touch up stands out so I am likely gonna have to tackle those touch ups again with my new airbrush.

I just wanted to bring ths GB backto the front page of the GB list. I am working through the final punch list on my Kate. I hada little trouble with identification number decals on the vertical stab so niw instead od portraying an AC from the Zuikaku I am doing one from the Shokaku which as it turns out was also involed in the Battle of the Sant Cruz Islands. Iwas worried for a little while. Anyway I will post pics at the end of the weekend with my progress.

I also wanted ask, and this has revelance to this GB, did anyone catch the first installment of The Pacific. It was awesome! It was an excellent portrayla of the first days of the Guadalcanal campaign ant the battle of the Tenaru River (Alligator Creek). If you have had a chance to see it check it out. If you don't have HBO you can watch it online by googling The Pacificwhich takes you the website and you can make an account and stream it on your computer. This is waht I did. I must warn you though that it is a bit of a pain in the$1***$2as it is very choppy unless you pause and let it download chunks of the video which are about 3-5 min max as far as I can tell which makes a 60 min show take about 2 to 2.5 hours when your all siad and done. But if your at your bench what better way to spend the time! More later. Take it easy!

Well here is my Yugumo as of this evening. All parts attacked except for the screws (gotta wait for the paint to dry on them). Now I just need to do some touch up paint in a few spots and weathering.

No Worries GSP. I am still finishing up my Yugumo. I just have a bit more work to go on her.

I am going to make the final last most cut off date April 18th to commemorate the end of Operation I -Go, the last Japanese large scale daylight air raids against Guadalcanal, and the death of Admiral Yamamoto. Fittingly enough, by Guadalcanal based P-38s.
