SituationWelcome to the 2009 - 2010 War in the Pacific WAr Group Build. The build will cover events in the Pacific Theatre of Operations between Dec 7th 1941 and 15th August 1945. Any ship, aircraft, AFV or figure model that represents participants in the conflict are eligible, so go search that stash.
Here's the badge, feel free to add it to your sig.
All I ask is that you host it yourself.
I was trying to find some significant dates from the war to start thing off but came up blank so I'm just going to say:
Start Date 13th July 2009 - Finish Date 30th June 2010
This should give people enough time to finish up current builds
Rules of EngagementRules for this one are going to be fairly simple
1. Open to any modeller regardless of modelling skill2. Any ship, aircraft, AFV or figure model that represents participants in the conflict are eligible. 3. Any scale4. OOB or as much after market as you want. 5. Cross over builds with other GBs are welcome. 6. Old builds that have been sitting in the " shelf of doom " for the last XX years are also welcome.7. This build does not cover the CBI Theatre of Operations8. No "What ifs"9. Must have fun

Darren, put me down for something, don't know what, but something almost certainly Japanese.
Karl
Currently on the bench: AZ Models 1/72 Mig 17PF
Im a huge fan of the Pacific "side of thigns", so I am in.... and yes, this time i will complete the GB! :)
I had planned to start the old Tamiya 1:350 Fletcher DD-445 this year, may as well do it for this GB. If the Guadalcanal GB also takes off, this will be a crossover if allowed.
Since you allow "shelf of doom" entries (LOVE that term! LOL), I may also add the Revell PT-109 that has been 60% complete for more than a year.
Anyone who wants an in depth look at the Pacific War years, I recomend reading John Costello's classic "The Pacific War 1941-1945". Thick volume, dense at times, but very good.
Cheers
I have several to contribute, an Accurate Miniatures B-24 in 1/72, I also have Revell P-38 Lightning waiting as well.....

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
Hi Darren,
I'm in, have to give it some more thought before I commit to a subject.
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
John

darren...Sign me up!!! I just started a Seiran....Tamiya-1/48....and then most likely a Rufe.
Carlos
Bob
Cool beans.
I'm in with a 1/48 Tamiya A6M5 Zero.
Building Now:
1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%
1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%
Upcoming:
1/48 Revell F-14D
Darson,
I'm in. Put me down for a 1/700 USS Houston (CA-30) by Corsair Armada. Probably do CL-81 USS Houston as well. Since you're allowing shelf of doom builds maybe I'll dust off my Combrig 1/700 USS Texas as well. Let's start with CA-30 though.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
Karl welcome aboard and don't worry you have all year to make up your mind.
James I'll be looking forward to seeing your Fletcher class coming along, nice choice btw. Also I wanted to allow "Shelf of Doom" entries to give people the urge to maybe grab that old half finished kit and give it a go.
Justin I've never heard of the Acc Min 1/72 B-24. I didn't even know they made a Liberator, is it a re-pop of another kit?
Tony no probs there's plenty of time to choose.
Bondoman that should make a couple of great looking entries, welcome. Btw some of my fondest memories of early modeling are of those multi colored Matchbox kits.
Anthony that's a cool kit that should build up like a treat, great choice.
Carlos good to see some more Japanese content here welcome.
Bob welcome to the build
Arki cool kit, just don't put mine to shame ok.

As for the Privateer, indeed I'll have to build her in all her naked glory, photo her and then paint her.
Glad to be aboard, sir, and is there torpedo juice? Sir if it pleases you, I'd like to be the keeper of recipes of same, once the build goes offshore, which it will if I'm involved. Might I also recommend homework for the men; Mr. Roberts, or perhaps South Pacific?

Outstanding and permission granted.
simpilot34 wrote:Well here it is LOL!!!! Count me in!!!!!! I will be doing the Hasegawa 1/72 Aichi E13A1 TYPE ZERO (Jake). I plan on doing it OOBish. Have a Falcon vac form canopy. been looking for a reason to get this one built!!! I've had it since I was stationed on Guam in '89-90!

John I'm so sorry I missed welcoming you in my earlier post, welcome aboard.
Guys I forgot to mention, I have the roster underway in an MS Word doco at work, I'll finish it off and post it tomorrow.
Darson:
Put me down for the 1/24 Trumpeter A6M2b. I saw it on the clearance rack at the local toy/model store and did a double take at the $40 price tag.
I like the time frame...it gives the looooong time I'll need.
Dave
Think I'll have to dust off Max Hastings' Nemesis, and Meat Balls & Dead Birds for a little inspiration.
That and a little Call of Duty: World at war should do the trick.
I would also like to join. It will be something Japanesse, At least 1 Plane nad maybe a ship

I have a feeling I should be saying that. Are you sticking with the kit markings or going aftermarket? If kit, I'll do whatever version you're not! They're both essentially the same.
No problems Dave, consider yourself joined.
By the way what scale are you doing and who's the kit manufacturer?
I'd like to jump in on this. I'm looking at the RM 1/48 P-40B Tomahawk kit in Flying Tigers finish.
There's a good article on wikipedia for anyone interested:

Edit: Just realized I never updated the picture in my sig! Have to get that fixed up.

hey Charles...I got a reference guide for the Zero...let me know and I'll scan it for you....

BIG scale!! I'm scared. Sure it's easier to hold the pieces, but I guess I'm supposeed to detail it better...uh-oh! At the price I found it for I couldn't pass it up.
I have a really nice reference I picked up overseas a few years ago. It's 180+ page book soley on the Zero, complete with color scans of the original blue prints. It will take me a while to build, but I am going to have fun with it!
As for the hangar, you've got free room and board while we're building!
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...
