I've never been able to afford aftermarket parts, so what you describe is essentially what I do on a regular basis. I'm not the best scratch-builder, but I can come-up with something. Not to mention, I have a fairly large stash of left-over parts from other kits I can use.

I guess you can count me in. I'll let you know when I got a kit for the build

Guys I just cant see letting this group die and its ok with Racedriver, so I will host the group if its ok with you guys. I would like to start a new front page and will use the rules set forth by Racedriver, I will try and have it up I hope tomorrow evening.  As for my build I will be doing the 1/32 Revell F-16C Fighting Falcon, it will be my first 1/32 scale build should be fun and my second fast mover.

I'm interested in joining in but haven't chimed in till now.  Just putting a bow on one group build and  another is almost ready for paint.  I have another one just looking at me for another build but I like the time line on this build along with the no aftermarket rule.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to host this build.

On Ed's bench, ???

Anyone is more than welcome to take the reigns on this group build. It seems the interest is picking up so I would hate to see it not continue, but as I stated earlier  I will not be able to give the project  the needed attention due to work conflicts and as we all know with the economy the way it is I have to take the added work while I can. So someone take the reigns and have fun. I think vetteman42 would be an awesome host if he can fit it in.

Hi,

I decided to join the GB with a 1/32nd scale Trumpeter Mig3. Reason I chose this one is that it comes with no PE. The model require a complete cockpit rework, so there's a lot of scratch-build involved. Other than cockpit, there are some modifications required here and there but no major stuff.

I already got the model out the closet and started to plan the build Cool

fermis

 vetteman42:

Bummer I have an old Revell 1/32 F-16 that would have been perfect for this group as there is no AM out there for it. And the time frame would have been good too.

Don't let it bum you out.....just grab the reins and run with it. I'd jump in.

I would Fermis if Racedriver would allow it, but I am hosting 2 group builds as it is.

Idea how about you Fermis you would be a great host Big Smile And I would jump in in a New York Minute I would.

Due to lack of interest and because my work schedule has just doubled for the forseeable future, I will have to cancel this group build. I may participate in a group build or two, but I know I will not be able to monitor this group build properly. So for any who were interested sorry, but if you want  you can host the group build.

I'm leaning towards this one as well. What about kit-bashing? I really like to pull decent tracks out of other kits for a "favored" build, and do a lot of kit bashing as a matter of course anyway.

I'm in the same boat as others, other GBs going, but I always seem to have two or three concurrent projects going on. It's an illness.

Well Trabi it looks like you wont have any problems with the scratchbuilding if your current project is any indication.

oooo!!! Love the idea! I like to make my own "aftermarket parts". Like in good old days back in 70:s - 80:s. More wood, putty and scrab parts etc! I have to finish my former group build(s) first Embarrassed http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3913/img0527dx.jpg

I know just perfect model for this...

Yes - No aftermarket pe, if its included in the kit it is acceptable. Honestly I would rather that no one used a kit with pe included but that is hard to justify. The actual thought in this group build was to break out those old Revellogram, Airfix, Heller etc... kits with sparse details and instead of buying the avaliable aftermarket to detail it  use some of our ingenuity and scraps laying around and scratchbuild to the detail level you desired. So with that in mind  i would have to say yes some form of scratchbuilding is required.

As far as a start date I am open to suggestions because so many are in the middle of numerous other group builds, and assuming some of them are interested in this group build I dont want to overload them with projects. If I had to take a stab I would say a start date of July or August 1st would hopefully allow others to finish what they have going. My intention is for the group build to run 1 year from start date.

When are you thinking of running this?  It has been awhile since I got into a GB and might be interested.

One question - you mentioned specifically not allowing PE.  I assume you mean, specifically, aftermarket PE, since so much comes in kits already it would be hard to 'ban' it altogether...

And would the scratch work be required or simply encouraged.

Well thats one possible. If everyone is too busy to start another group build, but are interested in this group build give me an idea of a good start time. I was planning on the end date being 1 year from start date, mainly because i realize scratchbuilding can take considerable time. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like the idea, might be in if I can wrap up a couple of things in progress. I've got enough of a stash to pull something out......

The NO AFTERMARKET Group Build
Posted by Racedriver on Monday, May 24, 2010 12:01 PM

I have been here for awhile now but have'nt been very active in the forums. I would like to see the interest in a group build where no aftermarket is allowed,no resin cockpits, wheel bays,wheels,etc... and no photo-etch. The catch is I would like to get back to basics and require some sort of scratchbuilt addon whether its as simple as adding hydraulic lines to gear struts or completely rebuilding a cockpit. Now scrap pe frets or scrap resin or parts in the spares box would be allowed as long as it is used in some form of scratchbuilding. Any subject would be allowed in any scale.

My idea for this group build was brought about by the fact that almost every model I have in my stash has some form of aftermarket add-on that I have purchased, which in turn has made me realize we are spoiled by add-ons. That in itself is not a bad thing because I like ultra detailing my models as do alot of people here. I just figured good old fashion ingenuity might be a refreshing break from spending countless dollars on aftermarket add-ons.

The rules:

1) Any scale any subject

2) Some form of scratchbuilding must be on the model.

3) No purpose bought aftermarket for your model.

4) WIP pics are highly recommended especially of the scratchbuilt add-ons.

5) Descriptions of how you did a particular scratchbuilt item would be helpful too so we can learn new techniques.

6) Have fun the scratchbuilt parts dont have to be in the league of Chukw.

The start date is going to be 01 July 2010 until 01 July 2011 if I get enough interest. I would like to have a few more people commit before I  make it official.

Also if anyone wants to design a badge I would greatly appreciate it as I am un-skilled in designing something that would be appropriate. Thanks in advance.
