Viper Group Build 2010-2011
Posted by STFD637 on Sunday, August 15, 2010 4:04 PM

Here is the official thread for the Viper GB I floated here a few months back.

The official start date will be October 1st, 2010 and will run until October 1st"ish" 2011.

ALL scales are welcomed. ALL variants are good to go! I would like to see some of the Vipers used by different countries with all the great paint schemes, but not necessary. There are some great kits out there with all the added upgrades. Aftermarket is welcome, but not necessary.

This is my first time hosting a GB.....so I do ask for your understanding if I am slow in getting back to you.

Hope to see some good kits added to the list and I look forward to great builds!

Here is the tally so far:

(Me): Hasegawa 1/72 F-16A (netz markins), F-16N "Top Gun" (Has) 1/72, F-16I Sufa 1/72 (Has) maybe!

Chewybr: Tamiya 1/32 F-16 Block 50

Spike190: Tamiya 1/48 F-16 CJ

Nomad: Hasegawa 1/72 F-16A

Daywalker: Tamiya 1/32 F-16 Block 25 (almost complete), 1/48 F-16 Block 30 (Tam)

Medicman71: Hasegawa 1/48 F-16 CJ Block 40

Macattack80: Tamiya 1/48 F-16 C/N

Nomad68: 1/12 F-16 Cockpit

Konigwolf: Dragon F-16 "Tigermeet" 1/144

Simpilot34: Academy F-16C "Arkansas ANG" 1/48

CallSignOWL-Academy F-16C 1/48 W/ SD ANG "Lobos" markings

hutchhd- Kinetec  "Sufa" 1/48

Bigsmitty- Academy F-16C Arkansas ANG markings

Goodness180- Kinetec F-16E (block 60) 1/48

Thunderbolt379: Hasegawa F-16C Block 50 1/72

ColGray: Tamiya 1/48 F-16 "Alaskan Agressor

Looks like we have all but 1/144 represented. Also let me add, if any one has one or is up for it, I will accept the Mitsu F-2A since the airframe is pretty much the same (also I would love to see one built!Stick out tongue).

Crossovers are welcome, and half built kits are ok. WIP are best. I just thought it was a good time to share my love for this plane, not to mention I have several in the stash calling my name!

Travis/STFD637

Here is the build Badge. I hope it suits everyones needs. I went through a lot of different inmages. This one seemed to be the best fit!

Hi Travis ;

I Kindly ask if I may join your Viper GB with two Hasegawa 1/72 scale F-16A 8th TFW "Wolf Pack" Kunsan , Korea and a F-16B 8th TFW  "Wolf pack" Fighting Falcons

Is it okay to have cross-over builds as these two are part of my Korean War GB stash [modern era]

Kind regards ,

                              John .

John can you still get the kit for the F-16 8th TFW or is it out of production?  I had A good friend who loaded ordinance on F-16s in Kunsan Korea in the late 80's . Would love to build one. I f you know of any decal sets for those planes that would help also. I would love to be able to give him one but he never made it home. He was killed in the Philipines by terrorists. Sorry that might be a little heavy but would like to build one of the planes he worked on.

Welcome Sign John and Matt! I look forward to seeing your builds.

Damon: I also think Fujimi made an F-16A with wolfpack decals. I have seen them pop up on Ebay now and then....maybe check there. I think Fujimi is pretty comparable to Hasegawa if not the same in some cases. I will say I usually add a resin ejection seat to either brand!

Gosh I'm so tempted! As I said on the interest thread I've about five vipers in my stash. But I also have about twenty or so half completed models scattered around. If you don't mind I may have a chance to jump in sometime next year once I've polished some of this other stuff off please.

Travis- I have the 1/32 Tamiya F-16 backdated to a block 25 aircraft from ODS on my bench right now, as well as a 1/48 Tamiya F-16 block 30 in the works.  If I can add those two here, I'd like to enlist!

BTW, I am not sure if anyone else is familiar with the book by Jake Melampy entitled "The Modern Viper Guide", but it is one of the finest reference books I have ever picked up.  HIGHLY recommended! (I have no ties with the author- just love the book!)

I'll jump in on this one. I have the 1/48 Hasegwa F-16 CJ block 40. Not sure what markings i'll do it in. Need to do some research on what units use it and what for (eg. strike, wild weasel). If anyone knows the answer to this it would be helpful.

Daywalker- Thanks for the heads up on that book. I saw some others there that I want too.

My pleasure, I think you will be impressed!  I also have the Eagle guide, and the Hog guide.  I also plan to buy the Phantom guide and the other F-16 titles.  I love these books!

You can count me in on this one too!!  I will give the Tamiya F-16C/N in 1/48th scale a go.  Probably in an aggressor scheme.  I will probably add some aftermarket stuff too.  I will let you know when I figure that out.

Nomad68: A "big" cockpit is more than welcome. Might be kinda cool to see! Welcome Sign.

Macattack80: I got you down for a Tamiya 1/48 F-16C/N. I am doing a 1/72 agressor so it should look good to see the different scales!Welcome Sign.

I got my Netz and Barak decals today! So stoked! The Isreali color schemes are awsome!

Got the book several days ago and it's awsome!!! Not a thing is missed in the book. For those that don't have it you should get it. Not a detail is missed and all blocks of the C/D Viper are explained in detail. I'm gonna order the other books of the Eagle and Warthog as well.

Ditto that!  Can't remember the last build that WASN'T for a GB!

Richie- Oooohhh... the Flying Razorbacks!  I'll be looking forward to that one. Propeller

Medicman- Glad you like that book!  I look through mine quite frequently, as I really do think it is the best reference book in my collection.  If only they had a title devoted to the Hornet!

Thanks Frank!! Yes, looking forward to doing it. Would love to find some decals for the F-4's they had in 1/72. Was in Arkansas on vacation in early 80's when we still lived in California and on our way back to Tulsa, a couple Rhino Razorbacks were doing a lil ACM over us as we were driving. They were fairly low and one of them had just gotten checkmate during a scissors. That was way cool to watch!!!!

Ditto I have 3 group builds with 3 different Kits. And I haven't finished the Osprey yet. Between that and moving (in 2 weeks) i'm not getting anything done.

Daywalker- Yeah i agree. I want a Hornet and a Tomcat book as well.

Aren't the Razorbacks flying A-10C's now? I think they are. Check this pic out.

Yes medic, they have indeed converted to the A-10. Fitting really since the college sports teams are the Razorbacks!!! But nevertheless surprised to hear about the conversion!!
