The Offical Natural Metal Finish Group Build III
Posted by vetteman42 on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 12:33 PM

The first two rounds were so much fun, with so many fine builds, and back by popular demand we are doing NMF Round III. So Welcome to one and all.

Rules

Anything finished with foil, paint, or what ever else you use for a natural metal finish. We have been building aircraft, but can you picture a blinged out tank or a DeLorian ? How about a chromed moped ? The model should be at least 50% NMF. Any scale would be fine, and you can use all the aftermarket stuff you would like or build  OOB. Cross overs would be fine and partial starts, no more than 30%, and carry overs from the first group will be allowed also. WIP pictures are a must so we can build our skills, and they are losta fun to share. This will be a 1 year long build starting May 2 2011 and ending May 1 2012. So build 1 or 2 or more. And feel free to take a badge when you sign up, gotta give it back if you don't finish though.

The goal of the group is to have fun, build some fine looking models, and to learn something new.

The new group badge is coming soon, ideas for the new one are welcomed

Awesomeness!

Got a few NMFs in mind, not sure which ones I want to commit to yet, though. But you can be assured they'll probably have "Thunderbolt" or "Mustang" in their names!

Ok V-man, put me down for a Tamiya 1/48 P-51B Mustang "Old Blue Nose" and a Trumpeter 1/32 BAC Lightning F.1A/F.3

I'm going to paint both of these with Alclad Lacquers, they seem to have given me the best finish to date.

That's it for the moment but we'll see how the stash grows!

Cheers

V-Man: As I said I may jump in sometime over the next year. I've about five P-47s and I found a good deal on the 1/32nd Hasegawa kit at HobbyLink Japan and it came in last week. Swanky looking kit and I'm so sorely tempted to start on it... Devil

B17Pilot can you let me know what kit manufacturer and scale your P-17 is ?

Vette, I did not catch anything that sounded different from the previous NMF GBs, except for widening the net (maybe somebody will do USS Independence LCS in the bare aluminum scheme). Now a quick question, I plan on my Hun being an early Vietnam bird, circa 1965, at that point there was no true NMF on USAF fighters, but instead aluminum lacquer, does that still qualify?

Stikpusher from what I have found on even WWII fighters having silver lacquer on the wings and some had an all silver lacquer finish on them but were called NMF I would have to say yes your build is acceptable. besides the pigment used in most silver paint is powdered aluminum soooooo.

I'm leaning toward SnJ because it's an enamel and can be tinted with other gloss enamel paints.

Jbrady dont forget the polishing powders either they can add a bunch to the finish. I used them to weather the F-15 I did for round 2, sadly I cant get that to show up well in pictures.
