Okay, let me catch up here.

Boyd, hop in when you can. I would think the 222 would be a pretty quick build

Bondo, we finally have some targets!

Panzerbob1, you threw me a little curveball. Since your build is on another site, I will allow it, assuming it hasn't been started or lightly at that.

Carlos, the 75mm Pak 40 wouldn't qualify, they were issued in late 41.

Darson, looking forward to the new Pz III E

I'm not sure about the Tamiya 251. Is it the C version or the D? The C was issued mid-40 from what I could find, which would make it awful close to the surrender.

Hi Eric.......   I think I'll jump in too       (no micro build though,, ha)

This era, in my opinion, is absolutely one of the most interesting of the war......   I just ordered this kit Saturday, 8/13, so the timing couldn't be better!

Going to go with the Dragon 1/35 Pz 38(t) E/F. I'm not sure which variant yet though. I don't have the kit yet so I can't post a box art pic.

Count me in,,  should be fun

Bill

Enjoy the ride!

tiger, from what i have read, your right about the 251 Ausf C, and i have never seen pics of any in France at that time. And the Schwimmwagen deffinatly would not have been there.

Panzerwaffe, are you doing that S35 in the box markings or French.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Thanks Bish. We'll say that the 251 C was not involved unless someone has direct proof that it was. Sorry Carlos, it looks like a Stuka for you. LOL

Manny. Nice kit. I hear that Bronco released it with some corrections from my earlier kit.

Bill, welcome aboard.

@bbrowniii;

You are SAFE, my friend!  The "brown on gray" scheme was official and current until June, 1940.  This being the case, an SdKfz 222, a type which was already in service before 1939, could likely have been still in this scheme - I suspect that new (replacement) vehicles adding in in early and mid - 1940 may well have arrived all - gray. So it sort of depends on what you are positing your individual to have been - "established" or new from repple-depot!

PS: That brown on gray scheme is one of the reasons I am planning on being in this GB!  Any excuse to avoid those all-gray schemes!Big Smile

@Tiger...;

Thanks for the "shared rule" easement!  I'll try to make it worth while! I assure you it will be a new start. Now all I have to do is actually commit to what this start will be...Confused

@Bobbaily;

Hi!  I'm another Bob!

For my 2c worth; do the Tristar Pz 38 if you have it or can get it cheap (the ausf B, E/F, and G kits are all around eBay and at shows for very reasonable bucks) - these are all super nice kits with great detail and go together very very well - just wrapping up an E/F as we speak and I loved the build!  And, as long as you take care and dry-fit things first, you will find about everything really goes together very cleanly and without lots of trimming or fiddle-faddle.   IF you do the B or G, you have the option of doing a Befehls-panzer with the frame antenna.Smile

Warning!: The B kit comes in 2 versions - with or without interior.  The interior is just fantastic stuff, but you will be taking on an involved job with lots of brass if you go there!  It's not for the PE-phobic!

 .........

BobSmile

Thanks for that info Bob...(how come I feel like I'm talking to myself?)  The kit at my LHS is the Full Interior version-at a very reasonable price.  I'm going to go check my other LHS (same owner, different city) and see if he has the 'no interior' version there. I hate to pay for the interior bits if I'm not going to use them.  If not, I'm leaning on back dating my bf109E 4 to an E 3 and going that route....after all, the Stukas are going to need some protection.....I should have something decided by the weekend.

Pz 38(t) E/F Smart Kit (2 in 1)

I'll give it a quick review as soon as it arrives.......   hopefully by the end of the week.

I'll give it a go with a Tamiya PzII C. Hopefully I'll be able to finish as I haven't even started my entrant for Andys Panzer III GB.

The shorter barrel is the 38 and the longer is the 39. Is that what you mean?

Ogrejohn and Bill, glad to have you guys.

Carlos, sorry about the Stuka, but we need something to take out all these heavy Frenchy tanks.

Hey all-I need some help from  people that know more than I do (and can determine from Google searches)-

Would a bf 109E-4 have flown in the Battle for France or would the 109's been strictly E-1's and E-3's?  The pilot/plane in questin is Hauptman Hannes Trautloft, Grupperkommandeur I./JG 20, based at Bonninghardt, 1940 (April I think).  The decal sheet in question is SuperScale No. 48-869

If so, my build is determined...if not, time for more research.

Thanks in advance

This one reason I didn't list planes. I can't keep track of all the variants.

You might try googling it.

panzerbob01

Thanks for the brown/grey info. You saved me a trip through my pile of papers that passes for 'references'! Stick out tongue

bobbaily

I've built the Tristar 38T B without the interior. The good thing about the kit is, the interior is really a seperate kit unto itself, so you could easily remove it. Odds are, you could sell it (Tristar packages the 38t interior seperately too).

Panzerbob is also right about the kit in terms of its detail and the way it goes together. The ONLY caution that I will offer is that Tristar kits tend to be very 'precise'. They kits have a lot of small parts and complex constructions, so demand the builders attention.

All in all, Tristar kits are great. I'll look forward to your build.

Bob if I recall correctly the Bf 109E-4 did not make an appearance until July 1940 so it's not going to fit the time frame.  I'm at work at the moment so I'll have to check this out properly with my references when I get home.

PanzerBob is is correct with the Anthrazitgrau / Signalbraun color scheme, it was current until it was replaced by Panzergrau (HM 1940, Nr. 864 of 31.06.1940).

Bob, are you talking about Trautloft's Black Chevron-Triangle- and Bar?  My Ospery book says it was a Bf 109 E-4 in March of 1940.  Looks like it would qualify.
