No More Excuses GB: Part Deux. Closed to New Entries But Finish What You Signed Up For

I finished most of the body work.  Mostly cleaning up a few mold lines and seams that I didn't notice before.  You can tell I kinda rushed the finish in an attempt to complete the build in time. That B-1 took up most of the allotted time.   Hopefully I will be able to spray on some primer tonight.

I was tinkering with the exhaust for the F-14 last night.  The fit isnt so great.  Will probably have to do some sanding and repainting.  It was nice to finally get at the bench for a bit.

lots of good builds re-started here , i'm again stopped with EB-66 ,lower surfaces are in white and actuallt have not good stock of white, thinking to prime it with mr surfacer 1000 to avoid too many layers of white ,someone reported problems between surfacer and model master or humbrol enamels?

I don't have any experience with Humbrol products but waiting for the base coat to fully cure will minimize any problems.  Lacquers are what are most likely to cause trouble when they dissolve the base coat.  If you are concerned, do a test on a scrap piece or that kit that is beyond hope of being finished.  I have an old B-26 that is my paint mule that is used for testing and practice.

I haven't used Mr. Surfacer to be able to give an answer from personal experience.  I have heard of others using enamals over Mr. Surfacer without any trouble.

I don't know about the charcoal filters but  think I have seen the polyester material in a roll somewhere.  You may even be able to find a furnace filter that fits for the particulate filter.  You can get these filters in a multi pack, which may not present much savings but would add the convenience of not having to order and wait.

 

I will  have to keep an eye out for the roll of material.  That would probably be the next best option.  Of course I could cut a furnace filter to size.  Thanks for the info.

I have a Paasche HSSB.  They make filters that fit for it.  They are made from polyester...I think...  Not a frame just a slab of filter to stuff in the rectangular intake area.

I am always up for an alternate way to filter the fumes that will be cost and time effective.  What ideas do you have?

Kevin- What type of filter material do you use and what type of frame is it on?  I may have an idea for a do-it-yourself solution.

My spray booth filters finally arrived today.  Hopefully I will be able to get some much needed bench time in tonight.

It's always worth trying though.  Sometimes we forget that a model or two may suffer the consequence when we try something new but if we never tried something new, we would still be tearing parts from the sprues and using tube glue.

 

Good call Screaminhelo.   A brush or 2 shouldn't set  you back too much.  Its the other stuff you "need" while at the supply store.... At least you would be able to get the ball rolling. 

Even from that close up 68GT, it doesn't look too bad.  In your defense, yellow is the worst color to hand brush or airbrush, as you already know.

My bench is still painful.ly inactive.  Still waiting for our stuff to arrive with some needed supplies.  I may end up buying a brush or two in order to get back in the game.  Until then, I'll be lurking and looking at other's progress.

How about a close up.  Sucks to have lumpy hand painted stuff when the rest of the decals were melted tight.

Centhot, If you started the kit then put it away to start another kit it would count.  No time frame needed. 

I did give that Fokker D.VII away, and the Gnat went to the bin (along with a Revell 1/144 Berkut I couldn't face fixing the canard for the 4th or 5th time).

I'm wondering, how long does an aircraft need to be hanging around to be a Shelf Queen.  The 1/48 Mossie was only a few weeks untouched, maybe I shouldn't include it?  That just leaves the Merkava and the Eindekker.  I'll try and put up pictures!  I actually did some work on the Fokker, closed up the fuselage.  It then went back into it's box...

I was able to smooth out a few seams the other day but I cant find any filters for my spray booth so I haven't been able to paint anything yet.  I ordered some and they should be here in a few days.  Then I will be able to get the show on the road.

I worked a little on the props of the P-3C last weekend.  Would anybody happen to have some spare lightning bolts from the VP-19 kit?  I started to paint them in but they look like crap.

Sorry not been an active participant, but I have, sort of, taken part.  I decided not to allow any kits to stay unbuilt into 2012,  so, all the Shelf Queens that I knew I would never finished were shipped off to a friend's kid for playing with.  This leaves 5:

Airfix 1/72 Gnat (old mold) - I recently filled and primed twice

Airfix 1/48 Mosquito - Not much done

Revell 1/72 Merkava III - I did an awful job originally, so unglued, re-set, and just re-painted parts

Revell 1/72 Fokker Eindeckker - Rigging, oh dear, I don't know....

Revell 1/72 Fokker D.VII - Oh that scheme, how do you do those lozenges?

No worries Centhot.  I will update the roster with your entries.  Nice of you to donate the extras.    I can't really help on the Fokker D. VII.  Scheme looks awesome when done though.

VX-9 was the test squadron that came out of VX-5 and VX-4 (5+4=9) at China Lake and Pt Magu, California. I grew up next to China Lake and always loved watching the jets fly over our house on their way to land. While  the F14s were at Pt Magu, and not China Lake, we did go to the airshow down there a few times and saw them fly. Yes, very good memories.

Must have been awesome seeing the jets overhead.  I see the C-130's flying around all the time out of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.  Might not be as "cool" but always nice to see them.
