WWII Twin Engine Bomber GB!
Posted by panzerpilot on Friday, March 16, 2012 3:40 PM

Fighters have been my focus for a while now. Time to give the bombers some credit !!

2012-2013 WWII Twin Engine Bomber GB. 03/16/2012 - 03/17/13

Can be anything twin engine, so long as it dropped bombs. B-26, B-25, He111, Ar-234, Me262a-2, A-20, bomb laden Mossies, etc. etc. Any scale. Any scheme.

Hi panzerpilot,

It will be a while before I could join in but if it's okay with you then put me down for the Trumpeter Wellington Mk 1c in 1/48, I've been itching to build it for a while.

Cheers....

So in!

Put me down for H-K's 1/32 B-25. I'll be starting as soon as it arrives and I can get the sprues washed and ready.

Not sure of the markings yet, but if they've got "Who Cares?" from the 340th Bomb Group - the sharkmouth on the artwork they've been showing - odds are very high that's the one I'll do. OD over NMF + sharkmouth? F yes.

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

Tom:

Please count me in with the Douglas A-20G Havoc though by Hans definition I'm assuming she'd be a light bomber but still she did have twin engines and drop bombs.

Umm...if the Havoc is a light bomber then the Ventura musta been a pea shooter...Big Smile I`d like to do the Ventura but I`m not sure if you could call it a `medium` bomber...whadda ya think ??

Let's seeHmm, I'm finishing up the Jap GB, then the B-36, then 109, THEN open.  So if you're still at it, gosh I could do a Mossie, He 111, Do 17, Ju 88.....

Len, don't know what the Ventura was classified as but every site I've checked lists the A-20 as Attack/Light Bomber. (shrug).

Not to speak for Tom but I think as being twin engine and dropping bombs the Ventura is eligible by the rules.

You can count me in with a DML 1/72 Arado Ar-234. Neat little kit, should be a fun build. Yes

Guys. Sorry for the confusion. I changed the forum name to meet the rules I had hashed out. If it was a twin whose primary use/role was to drop bombs to prosecute the war, it's legit. Thanks.

If there is still time left I'll join later on, over committed already, but we'll see. I've been wanting to do a German bomber lately.

Like I said in your other topic, given the awesome and relaxed rules you can count me in.

Revell's 1/32 JU-88.

There are some that call me... Nash

Len, don't know what the Ventura was classified

The PV-1 Ventura is a "patrol bomber" (PV actually means "Patrol, Heavier than Air, aircraft) in US Navy jargon, and a bomber in Army Air Force (B-34 Lexington)... Technically, it was a bombardier-trainer (B-34)and navigation trainer (B-34B), and the B-34As were former RAF Venturas returned to the US Army under "Reverse Lend-Lease", with some being used for anti-sub patrols, although that wasn't the primary mission.. Also known as "O-56"s and were used as armed Observation aircraft...  Army B-34As were painted in RAF camouflage, and the B-34/O-56 in OD/NG..

Clear as mud now, right?

As for the GB name-change, you guys have to change it yourselves in your replies by using the "Edit" function, or every time you reply to someone that hasn't edited it, the "Medium Bomber GB"  perpetuates itself..  Once that's done, the name-change will reflect itself in future replies, starting with this one here...

I'm noticing a distinct underrepresentation of the divine scale.  Put me down for Airfix's classic B-26 in 1/72.

Thanks for posting those pics Hans.  I've got a 1/48th Revell P-38J in the stash and I've been thinking of going the Droop Snoot route.  However, the Revell kit is the earlier version, slightly different nose.  I think it may have been a field modification.

If you scroll to the bottom of this link, there is a reference to the field mod Droop Snoops:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/thread/1271186828/1271263944/To+anyone+who+has+pic%27s+for+theb+P-38+droop+snoot+interior+in+the+nose...

I've got another link buried somewhere that states that the 'toggler' laid prone and the ability to bail out was limited.  I would image that applied to the field mod Droop Snoots, not the pics that you posted....but I could be wrong....

EDIT-here's a link to the instructions for the 1/72 scale Academy Droop Snoot-a little help but not much...at least it gives an idea of how much (or little) room there was in the nose.

Thanks for those pics Hans.  I just picked up a Revell "J" for 11 bucks , with a 40% off coupon at ACMoore`s. My plan is to get 2 more and build all 3 versions Revell offers. Also picked up an F-80 at Michael`s with a 40% coupon...my Wife swatted my "Lid-Do-Bee" off a shelf.."Accidentally" of course...had a big smile on my face when I walked in with the new one......
