Gift GB
Posted by Bish on Sunday, December 9, 2012 6:56 AM

This idea for a GB came from my other half when she bought me some kits for my birthday. So if it goes wrong, i can blame her. To join, you must buld a kit, or use something in a build, that was bought as a gift. Christmas, birthday or anything else.

The build will run from boxing day this year until xmas day next 2013. But any kits you have been given in the past still count.

Any genre or scale. OOB or as much AM as you like.

Crossover allowed

If the gift was an airbrush, AM or something else, please post a pic.

Progress pics a must.

Thats it. I am sure many of us will be getting kits in a couple of weeks, and most of us should have at least one birthday during the GB. So no excuses.

Heres the badge i made will my limited talents at editing photo's.

Please take the badge as soon as you like.

Hi Bish,

I'm in with a model sprayed by my new Airbrush. I'll post a pic of it after Christmas.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Good to have you on board guys, i was getting worried for a moment.

Tony, i expect a nice pic of a brand new shiny airbrush. Wink

Talentless, i forgot to add. You can include something bought with money given as a gift. If its anything like the look i get at the start of each month when the parcels arrive, i know the feeling.

Bish:  I'll enter with the Airfix Victoria Cross Icons (1/72).  I'll probably do the Fairey Battle.

It is, Bish, and if I can get around to it, I'll probably include that too.  I've already finished the Hurricane for James Nicolson.

I think I took a few pictures during construction, but didn't post them anywhere--although I thought about including it in the OWL's "Force of Nature GB"; just didn't get to it.  I also did up the Hurricane from Revell Germany's Battle of Britain set at the same time, using markings from the Dunkirk era.  Compared to Airfix, that was a real handful.

One sleep to go, so don't forget to join the GB if you get any nice modelling pressies tomorrow. The GB starts on Wedensday so hopefully we will get some more recruits.

DARN!!!

I got so exited about my little 1/72 Airfix A-4b Scooter that I started it a few days ago, totally forgot we are only supose to start tomorrow ! ;-)

SO please delete the Airfix one from the roster, I will do the 1/48 Hasa A-4 E/F for the GB. I understand "Santa" will be sending me another 1/48 A-4 F Israeli scooter from NZ next year, so that one might also be in the gb.

Just goes to show, do not leave model building for a few months like I did, when you start up again you get to "involved" and forget the GB rules  LOL

Festive season to all!

This is my 1/72 new tool Airfix A-4b. Sofar no major hassles with the kit, just a bit of filler needed on the bottom of the wing joints.

I cut off the flaps and thinned them out as I wanted to do a "split flaps down" pose.

Airfix 1/72 A-4 b (flap mod)

Airfix 1/72 A-4 b (flap mod)

I also managed to break off one of the tiny slat rails. Will have to glue it back no.

Add a little weight to the nose or it will be a tailsitter.(lead shot and wood glue)

Airfix A-4b

Not sure if you can see it in the pix, I modified the stabs to sit at a leading edge down position as if trimmed nose up for the cat shot or even landing  :-)

It will be in USN scemee.

Bish, if "Mrs. Claus" got the many hints and memos I left lying around, looks like it'll be a Wingnut Wings D.VII  for me (but I don't want to jinx anything yet as it's still about 2-3 hrs before I actually find out). If so, I'll be entering that puppy for sure. Should be back with confirmation of some sort or another fairly soon.

Theuns, looking good. Been woundering about these new tooled Airfix kits. I have been in two minds about the MiG 15.

Mike, will keep my fingures crossed. I have never done a WW1 plane myself, so the 0/400 i got for my birthday will make a nice change. I hear a lot of good things about these Wingnut Wings kits.

I have not seen the Mig yet, but this little scooter is just sonice, the only thing I do not like about it is that I have managed to break off 2 (and loose 1) of the slat rails! They are very fiddly.

Hopefully I have completed the sanding and can work more carefully now.

I am just trying to find the best "load" for this plane so I can put the hardpoints on.

OK Bish, it's official. You can put me down for a WnW Fokker D.VII (alb). It's a gorgeous kit, and Mrs. Claus even threw in some neat AM stuff, like PE turnbuckles, seat harnesses, and turned brass Spandau barrels & cooling jackets. Definitely looking forward to this GB, and being off from work until the 2nd, should have plenty of time to make some serious progress on 'er.

I got the 1/600th Airfix HMS Victorious for my birthday. I do have a couple of ship kits but my other half has not seen them as i haven't worked on any for years. Woman, who knows what goes on in their heads lol.

I have that Airfix Belfast kit in the stash. I think its partly built but it must have been 15 years or more since i worked on it. I saw your post about the White Ensign PE. I was thinking about getting the set for the Victorious kit. I reckon they have to be worth getting as anything to improve it can't hurt.
