Fire/ EMS GB
Posted by MikeyBugs95 on Monday, May 6, 2013 7:10 AM

Hey. This is the first GB that I will be hosting.

This GB will be a Fire/EMS GB. Build any fire or EMS vehicle. Fire vehicles as in Fire trucks, fire boats, fire planes, etc. EMS as in ambulances, medivac helicopters, or any other emergency medical vehicle.

This GB will start now, 5/6/2013, and will run until the 12th anniversary of September 11, 2001; 9/11/2013.

Anybody can enter as long as the subject is a Fire/EMS vehicle. Police vehicles are not included because there's already an active GB for police vehicles.

Projects must not be more than 3/4 of the way done.

Subject can be from any time period: past or present, and from any country.

Subject can be of a fictional organization, a defunct organization, or a real organization as long as it is Fire/EMS related.

For those participating, here are the badges thanks to Waynec:

Is the Supervisor Crown Vic a fire or EMT vehicle?

Also no I don't have a badge made, and yes I might need help.

Mikey: AMR = American Medical Response - it's an ambulance company, so it's an EMS vehicle.

BTW, you might want to change the build title to FIRE/EMS - EMT is a training/certification level, EMS is the service.

Ah. Ok. Thanks for clearing that up about the AMR vehicle. I'll add that right now.

And I just changed over the EMT to EMS, thank you.

Cool. I haven't seen any firebomber models around anywhere. Have fun. I'll add you to the list. Smile

I have an update on my ALF firetruck:

Much of what is painted and assembled (the engine block (anything yellow or red), the fan and fan belt, the frame itself and springs, the tires and wheels, and the cab (interior) and dash) was already painted when I got the kit. Everything else though, has been painted by me.

I got some more work done today, but nothing major. I just started finishing up the water pump and I attached the radiator/housing to the frame.

Wayne, your kit has been added to the roster.

Pyrman: I'd like some help making a build signature sign thingy.

Here's a logo that can be modeified for the GB badge:

Wayne: Do you think you could make a badge from that?

I was thinking more along the lines of having a badge with a firetruck and an ambulance with a background increasing from dark red to a lighter red...... Maybe? It could incorporate the logo too...

An American LaFrance 1000 Century Series. Its about a foot and 3/8 inches long, or should be, when completed. It's a kit from the 80's or 90's I think. I got this kit with a large package buy of about 10 or 11 other kits. One was c**p when I started working on it so I threw it out (I also have another one of the exact same model (F-4 Phantoms) which I will be disposing of via the internet).

probably won't get started on this until after nationals in august. won't get my german fire truck until next week and haven't cracked the box on the fire bomber. wish someone would make an airport firetruck based on a HEMMT 8x8. that would be cool. if youhave ideas for the badge send them to me and i can get started on that. thinking a pumper, ambulance, civilian medevac and the symbol posted earlier in a longer than taller layout.

NOTE saw there is a revell germany frankfurt flughafen 8x8 from 1988. probably now a collector and pricey.

The pic is nice. And do you want me to add the other kits to the build roster? Also, I have come to a conclusion.... I will extend the end date to the 12th anniversary of September 11th, 2001... Unfortunately we're the only 3 people involved in this build... No 4 people...

hi mikey

it's a long time frame so others may join. it means the 3 or 4 of us will have to post lots of pics and keep it on page 1 to draw attention. hell anyone can host a TIGER build.

when you posted initially i wasn't interested. now i have a truck, a jeep, a fire bomber and looking at 2 more trucks and a fireboat if i can find one. i do warwheels so the trucks aren't much different and i dabble in boats and need to practice my planes. nice change from gray, green, and sand.

are you going to post who is building what on the first page? put me down for the itelari 1/24 fire jeep. i could start that one early and probably good practice for the trucks.

Pretty neat, Wayne. Currently I actually put up an ad on a different forum (no offense FSM) trying to get another truck. I could actually try to build the C-130 (unfortunately its a 1/48 C-130 so I have no friggin' idea where I'm going to put when it's finished... I need a bigger room...) as a fireplane.

And I've already posted the build roster. Posted it about a day after I started this GB.

I have a few extra Lindberg Crown Vic's, I got them mainly for parts - lightbars, push bumpes, radio consoles, etc.  I also have quite a few sets of public safety decals, including Chimneyville's American Medical Response ambulance and the generic police sheets.  This GB seemed like an excellent opportunity to build an AMR supervisor vehicle.  Here's a few WIP pics:

the radio console

the wheels

Here's where the build is currently.....

the dashboard....the kit came with an instrument decal - it didn't fit Huh? After I had put Future on for the decal, I noticed raised detail, so when the decal didn't go on, I just decided to go over the details with a white artists pencil.

here's the completed interior

I decided to go with the MX7000 lightbar - the front and rear

The lightbar was painted in Tamiya clear orange for the rear arrow stick and clear red for the front flashers and top covers.

As always, comments encouraged and welcome Hmm

here's the right-rear 3/4 view showing the tail light area painted Testors aluminum

While I post this, I'm soaking the pre-colored tail lights in 91% ETOH to get the pre-painting off.

I managed to get the windows painted.....

interior fist sprayed with MM Fabric black then followed by flat black trim and finished up with US neutral gray AN603

to prevent the window trim on the rear window from hiding the center high-mount brake light, I left a space open

Nice detail work. Howd you get such fine lines on the windows? I can never seem to mask it well enough so that I don't get any little protrusions of paint above the mask...
