AIRCRAFT - Natural metal finish group build (ends 10/31/04)
Posted by jimz66 on Sunday, February 22, 2004 1:34 PM
Well guys I am going out on a limb here. I do not want to get away from my USMC group build participation. But while I wait until things can dry I started my Dog Sabre from ProModeler. I figure that it would not take to much time to work on this. I also have an F-84G, from Promodeler, but I need to buy paint for that. Since I have no money I will have to wait a couple of months before I build that. I will also need to get decals for both of them and that is months away. However I figure I could get started on the Dog Sabre.

I figure I could paint three models at once that way at least in the beginnig.

Ok here are my "proposed rues"

1. Any Natural Metal Finish aircraft of any era, scale or type.

2. Proposed finish date of October 31.

3. Have fun and be merry,

I figure it this way. Natural Metal Finish can cover such a large area that lots of you might be interested. You have aircraft all the way from Pre World War II up to Vietnam to cover. Everything from B-17's B-24's and B-29's to the F-105's so lots to pick.

Good Luck and let me know what you think.

Ok guys here goes the list. i am going to work on it piecemeal, due to my schedual.

Here it goes

That is the list so far based on my emails to date. I am going to go through the seven pages here in the next couple of days to see what is listed on the forum and I did not get emails for. If anyone is interested let me know. I picked a long due date in the hope that some of you would do larger projects.

I plan to do two planes in 1/48 as I listed below. But there are lots to chose from in this category. I also chose a long due date due to financial and time constrainsts on my end.

Let em know. It seams like a few of you might be willing.

Well, i have a F-86F that's going though painting (currenly on hold because of financial constraints and a little mess up), and a NMF B-17G that's still in the box... I suppose this would be cool! Smile [:)]

Tempting..., but the timing on this ain't great for me. In an attempt to save $$$ on paint I'm only building blue planes right now. The strategy seems to be working. Smile [:)] Got at least six of them on the "To Do" list for this year as well after my SB2C Helldiver and JRB4 (in progress).

Then building the black night fighters (P-61 Black Widow, A-26 Invader, B-26 Maurader - night version) hopefully sometime soon next year.

Current and Subsequent Projects:
1/48 scale Tamiya P-47 "Razorback" - Complete
1/48 scale Testors/Lone Star Models PT-22 Recruit - 20% Complete
1/48 scale Monogram C-47 Skytrain - Not Started

I think so. I'll have to dig through my stash and see what's there. My biggest problem right now is that my wife kicked me out of my building area. It seems she doesn't want model "stuff" on her new table.

Yeah, I'm in. My first group build! Big Smile [:D] Just don't expect any of mine to be masterpieces! That means i'll have to step up the F-86 and bump down the RX-7 to accomodate the B-17G... How are you all planning to do your NMF? This alcalad (or was it krylon) stuff is supposed to be miraculous, but i can't get my hands on any... Smile [:)]

Jimz, I may be in too. Just visited the Unreliable Ones and my order arrived tonight. It included a TamiyaF-84G Thunderjet and a F-4D1-1 Skyray. (They were on special offerBlush [:I])

The Dog Sabre didn't materialise. Sooooo, would one of the above qualify??
Also, what exactly is requried on a group build? Never done one, before.
Lord, help me as I take this plunge into the unknown.

I may join this one. I still have to finish group builds for Pearl Harbor & Me 262, and a kit I'm reviewing for IPMS. I could do 1/48 Hasegawa P-47, P-51 or P-38. I also have a Pro Modeler B-17G, or I could do a Trimaster Me 262. When I'm done with the others, I'll let you know. (gee...if I've got until Halloween, I could probably do all of those !)

yeehaw 12001

The rules are that the aircraft must be a real paint scheme. Must be a Natural Metal Finish and has to be done by October 31. No posts until then. Thanks for asking.

I've got so many to consider in NMF. Maybe it's time I do a b-58 (after the USMC build) or p80. I saw a resin conversion for an F105B.....hmmmm.
Think I'll go out and buy a box of nestle crunch bars (sweet tooth and thin foil) and ponder.

if I may ask, why no posts until then? I thought the idea was to babble on to each other as we progressed? Ask advice etc...?
Anyways, I might just shell out for a detail set from Aires. See, when I find myself actually talked into doing something, I tend t o get sucked into it ever deeply, kinda like being carried forward under my own momentum.
or something like that.
Ask Oggy, he does it to me all the time.

I mean no photos until then. At least finished photos. That is the way that the USMC Group Build is going. I figured I would use the same policy.

Is that the Monogram B-58?

A friend of mine has one it is very large and impressive.

That is the one type of model I would like ot see. I can't do my Monogram B-29. I am not
ready for that monster of a project, one and two, I live in a studio apartment and just don't have the room for it. SOMEDAY.

Looks like this thread has been out there a while but I just saw it. I'm building a KI-61 Tony, planning to use foil on it. Does that count? I planned to publish some in progress photos anyway....

Yeah, it's the monogram model. I got 2 of 'em (one's destined for a SEA finish). Not so sure if I've got the room for it either. It's about 30" long. The B1 in 48th is even larger.
