Boohoo [BH]

Last Saturday, I have the Ki-44 set aside on the work table on a coat hanger stand, drying. My 6 year old daughter picks it up off the stand.........

'Daddy, did you paint this?'

'Ruthie, Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!'

I scared her so much she drops the model ON TOP of my drying N1K1-J that I was using for the Old Guns GB! She start to tear up and sobs 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry!' and I tell her with a hug, 'It's OK, I can fix it' while gritting my teeth, holding back my own tears.

A horizontal stabilizer that I broke off when I was building it, broke of again. Some putty I had applied underneath the cowling came loose and the N1K1-J has some scraped paint on the upper wings and fuselage. My own personal goal now is to get these two models finished by the end of this month so I can start my flying boat build clean at the begining of February.

Daddy's little girl............Sigh [sigh]

Salty, I used Bare Metal Foil, the chrome stuff, not the matte aluminum. I carefully cut pieces sized to fit in between panel lines, burnished with Q-tips to give that polished aluminum feeling. Took FOREVER, but it really gleams nicely. If I can figure out how to do a close-up photo or two I will post them here.

Well, I finally figured out how to post this pic. Thanks to Ron George for providing the upload URL.

This Constellation is a Heller 1/72 kit. Foiled with BMF. My first model in 25 yrs+. Sorry I didn't do a closeup, still trying to figure out my new digital camera- I'm an analog kinda guy!

The Constellation is to me one of the purest sculptural forms ever to fly... interesting that it, like the Hughes Racer H-1 ( another great NMF flying sculpture) was a product of Howard Hughes...

Anybody see my snafu on the Aircraft forum? About my screw up with the flaps on my 'Tojo'? I still plan on getting this done before the new deadline.

don't worry about it michael, i've broke that part off of 3 out of 5 kits that i build!!LOL i usually just super glue it right back on as a "butt" joint, never had a problem with doin' it that way. the rod does sound more secure though.

Leon, thanks for the kind words. i use alclad, which can be masked after a few hours, but i wait for it to cure atleast 24 hours before workin' on it again. but no, i sprayed the metalizer first, then masked for the OD and the red tail (which doesn't show up in the horrible light situation i took the pic in). i mask off certain panels and use a different shade just for fun, but i will mask it after about 30 or so minutes, because i take the mask right off after i spray the different shade. later.

Chris, As usual your build looks awesome! I can't wait to see it done. So in my learning about NMF - did you do the OD before the NMF?

Michael, I feel your pain. It sucks when things like that happen. Good luck with the quick glue back.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!

I snapped off my starboard side horizontal stabilizer (the right side of the tail)! Clean snap with the insert tab still in the fuselage!. I was just setting up the airbrush to get to give the model a metalizer coat when I knocked it off the bench. Sad [:(] let that be a lesson to those who work with a crowded work bench!

I know the best way to reconnect the piece would be to drill a hole in the stabilizer to hold a brass rod and drill another hole in the fuselage to recieve it but I may give a try with crazy glue fist just to attach it and clean up the joint with putty.

i kinda figured that was SNJ, but you can never be too sure. it looks great though!! here is my humble efforts since Saturday. i had the bird assembled to the point that you see it, but i didn't have the seams filled or sanded. so, the progress is progressive but not real fast. i'm hoping to be posting the finished pics by the weekend. (not avery good pic, but it was done quickly) later.

Leon, my old Canon PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH went blooey on me so I utilized Canon's in-house trade-up program and got a Canon S410.

Thanks Chris and Josh. Look forward to your pictures.

Chris - the finish is actually SNJ. I would like to try that alcad stuff someday, but bought a starter set from SNJ which included a tamiya p-51d. Now that I need more and have a $5 off coupon from them, I will probably buy another one (I think it works out to a starter set (2 jars of paint, 1 jar of polish dust, various other things) + tamiya 1/48 p-51d for about $24 - Thats a good deal to me, especially since I really want to do a p-51 up in raf colors.

My new digital camera arrived today, so if I can figure out the bloody software I should have a photo or two of the Constellation available within the next week.

Query: how does one post photos here?

Do your civic duty tomorrow and VOTE!

Gerarddm, Also looking forward to your pictures. What digital camera did you get? I am tired of borrowing for my pictures and am researching them at the moment too.

Here is a link to the sticky about posting pictures:

I have to admit I expected to see a bunch of pictures posted here today. Maybe people posted them elsewhere?

Anyway, I am not quite done, but decided to post where I am at for the original deadline. I'll probably be done in a day or so and post in the aircraft forum.

The kit is academy 1/48. It gave me tons of problems and still is giving them. The tires are temporary until I can get the 8 spoked p-47N ones. The drop tanks are temporary on with putty. The hypodermic needle gun barrels need to be painted and installed. It needs a little work on the gun site and then the clear parts can be installed. and finally, I think, I am going to try to spray the decals and surrounding film with polly scale satin to hide those annoying films.

Anyway, here's where I am at...
