Is there any interest in a secret santa group build for this year?

Similar to previous years.

If there's enough interest ill sit down and write out the specifics but the overall jist is every participant submits through PM their name, addy, era or model type interest etc. all by a deadline likely near end November.

I'll send out the Santa's their "list", and they go to work making sure the good little boys and girls on the list are taken care of by December 25th.  All with no one knowing who is their santa.

Then we build our presents over a later to be defined period of time, probably 4-6 months.

That's the Coles notes version.

as I recall, there really wasn't much participation last year.

I was hoping that with the new infused activity amongst the members lately maybe interest might pickup.

There's a few new members, a few returning etc

It's a neat idea that hopefully won't fade away.

But that's why I'm feeling out the interest.

Sounds good.  Though Santa won't be very secret with just the 2 of us :)

Maybe a little more structure will help other decide if they are in.  These aren't the official rules but they are a loose approximation to give those on the fence an idea what the plan is.

If there is enough interest then I will create and start an official GB.

This will be setup similar to previous years.  Much of the below has been borrowed from previous ones.

The premise is based on Secret Santa gift exchanges held in various offices and workplaces.  I will match everyone up amongst all the participants, and we exchange the gifts.

By signing up, you agree to either purchase or select from your stash (unopened) an appropriate kit and mailing it to your GB member.  Take into consideration your time and finances especially as we close to Christmas.  Do not sign up with this will become a financial burden or your time does not permit the selection and mailing of said kit.

This is not just about the receiving of the gift but also the giving.  Its about sharing amongst your fellow modelers and the build that follows.

Deadline to sign up is November 22nd.  I will send you your name by November 24th.

To join, please PM me the following:

Full name, screen name, address as it should appear on the package, email address, scale and/or era preference (i.e. 1/72 armour, anything 1/35, anything Vietnam era etc)

Please do not specify that it must be the Hobbycraft 1/72 Avro Arrow (as an example), this takes the surprise out of it for both the giver and the receiver.  Also the members making the purchases must be able to locate and purchase the item if they don’t already have something appropriate.  The max costs should be no more then $20-25 but that doesn’t mean you have to spend that much.

Once you have your recipient, select your gift, gift wrap it up.  From the looks of previous years some participants have gone so far to send a small note with a card or picture.  Please ensure that they are mailed by December 15th so they arrive before Christmas, but if you have an international recipient take that into consideration.

Opening can be anytime after December 25th, or at least posting about your opening if you have the patience of my kids.

The GB starts on the 25th and runs until June 25th, 6 months.

You can add any PE, resin, AM parts you desire, as long as you post your works in progress for all including your Santa to see.

LOL!

Come on everybody!  You remember as a kid watching "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"?  The Island of misfit toys!?  Well, there is an Island of misfit models!  SERIOUSLY!  You know it's true because they are in your stash!  That's right, and they need a home where a modeller will love them!  (hey gunner, you think this is working?)

So come on....Think of the excitement you'll get waking up on the 25th!  You know that the Secret Santa gift would be the FIRST gift you open!

Wanna hear something funneeee?  This thread got me back in the mood to build last years kit.  So I took it with me to the LHS to get it started last evening.  Now when I got it, there were no instructions - not a prob, I found some on the inter-webs!Yeah  Well, I decided to start on the cab interior. Guess what?!  There's no sprue A!!!   AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  Angry

A buddy walks up and I tell him....he say's he's building some variant on the chasssis and offers me $10USD.....$OLD!, It's a win-win as I had just bought an Italeri Opel Blitz from another friend for ten-bucks!Big Smile

Moral of this story?  Just say "NO" to drugs and Secret Santa builds!Whistling

Come on Ebenezer, you don't want those 3 ghosts to come back do you?

Kidding aside, I can see where you are coming from.  Not a very nice Santa to do that!  Hopefully they got a lump of coal in their stocking!

I guess that's the downside of Santa sending something in the stash that's not still in the wrapping.

Come on now, time to reinstate the spirit of Christmas

I was thinking about this today and I think in light of Pyrman64's issue from last year, an amendment should be that if the kit comes from your current stash, it must still be in its wrapping, nothing opened.

In an effort to be fair.......and maybe get pyrman64 to join back in :)
