Progress -- I know there's only a few days to go but I've sprayed the tires and hubs as far as base colour, sprayed the tracks and just did some wash work on them. I have a smidgeon of air left in the tank and might be able to do the shade coat under the sponsons before I'm out. I'm really wringing every last bit of work I can get out of it, and will be angling for a fresh fill after the weekend. Rotbraun and grun to go, fade and shade, possibly a clear, and I've been doing some oil wash on the running gear, certainly the single colour backs of the wheels. I'll be able to bare metal drybrush the tracks and drive sprockets, and do the idler rims in graphite, independent of the air situation.

Cheers, M/TB379

Today I sprayed the shade coat under the sponsons/behind the running gear and bare metal dry brushed the tracks. Tomorrow I'll aim to oil wash the suspension and lower hull walls, and as soon as I get a gas bottle fill I can get on with the camo...

Wayne: That winter camo looks really nice! I gotta get me some Silly Putty from the States (ain't got none of it here in Austria)...

Mike: Your kitten is looking good as well! Take your time, you don't have to finish before the deadline.

Progress! Here she is with the rotbraun unt dunkelgrun applied. Then the DY was touched up, and a 5% solution of buff used to fade and blend the top surfaces, after which a coat of Micro Flat was used to establish depth and a low lustre:

Remaining spray work: possibly touch-up overspray that got under the sponsons, plus paint the spare track links. Other than that, I'm into the wash and drybrush phase as of this afternoon...

here is the JAGDTIGER. i will be adding a small snow base, maybe a treeline with a road in front and some mud trails so this isn't completely weathered. this late in the war there would be little damage. primed with ACE NOW gray and airbrushed with VALLEJO AV dark yellow, silly putty mask, and VALLEJO ivory (which really needs to be thinned. no problems with paint pull off, in fact painted ivory, cleaned airbrush with VALLEJO cleaner, about 6 minutes then pulled silly putty off.  a bit of touch up.

wanted to try something different so washed it with payne gray oil followed by prussian blue to create the illusion of cold and some dirt weathering with burnt umber, one right after the other, not waiting for one to dry completely. the color is really interesting. the ivory seems to make the dy a tad greenish and the blue stands out in some lighting more than other. this is why i want a white base and some muddy trails.

thank you. looking forward to your finish. my JAGDTIGER almost qualifies as a clean build burt it fits the time frame. picked up snow this afternoon for my base. i suspect this is going to be light dependant for the proper effect.

well you have not been idle. thanks. 7 more hours and i can start my RR stuff. i think i have to start planning my bases before building. in the past they have been generic, except for the BEDFORD and the sIG-33. have a TIGER and KINGTIGER in the stash which may show up in '45 GB.

oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR since it is now there.

Cheers! I'm three builds short of my 2014 target and wondering if I should slog on and clear them all before allowing myself to open a 2015 kit... Two are in fairly advanced state.

So little time, so many kits!!!

and me and probably half a dozen other folks. i will be more selective in my 2015 GB loins. nah probably over commit again, and this is my outside my comfort zone year.. plus a regional in town and nationals in ohio..

did you freehand the camo? i tried that with my ww1 tank. didn't turn out great but others thought so and the color modulation washes helped. took a couple of firsta.

wayne, I always plan my dio's early on, its just coming up with different ideas that's the tricky bit.. In fact a good proportion of my kits already have the dio's planned and drawn out. From there I can then make sure I have everything I need, such as buildings, figures etc. I try and only start a build once I know I have everything I need.

Mike, damn right there.

Thanks, Gamera!

Okay, done a bit each day, today I completed the main oil wash, and I did the main drybrushing in oil and enamel yesterday. I unmasked the axles and exhausts, and touched up the latter, applied the decals (kit serials plus Archer crosses), added clear over the decals and some more oil wash over the clear to tie everything together. The spare track plates are sprayed and an oil wash is underway to rust them up. The tools are prepainted in the sprues.

Target for tomorrow: mount the running gear, fit the MG barrel, do the bare metal drybrushing round, carbon stain the gun muzzle and do a radio antenna, unmask the vision blocks, assess for further attention with oils such as chipping and scratching, more corners bare, etc., do any work with pigments and graphite as may seem necessary, and fit the tools and track links. I was planning a figure but I won't count that as part of the main build, just an experimental extra to get to at a later date.

Wayne: Your little kitten looks really sharp! I especially like the weathering on the Zimmerit. Do you want me to add her to the front page now or should I wait untill you get her on a base?

Mike: Some lovely camo work on that Jagdpanther! Just don't stress yourself, take your time with whis build.

Thanks SS -- I'm hoping to have her done today, I guess we'll see where we are tonight!

Wayne -- the camo is freehand. I sprayed Tamiya Acrylics (XF-60, 61 and 64, unmodulated) at 66% thinning ratio, and 20L/min flow rate, through my Paasche VL with #1 tip and needle. There was some overspray to chase, and the DY was resprayed to touch up dark spatter that accumulated from the other colours. Then I used a 5% solution of XF-57 Buff as the fade coat, and Micro Flat to seal them all, leaving a low satin effect, and began the oil wash over that. Note to self -- capillary action doesn't work so well over the sealer coat!

Okay, not *quite* done... Running gear is touched up and mounted, bare metal drybrushing is done, most tools are mounted... There are seven items left to attach, being: MG barrel, radio antenna, a couple more trackplates, the C-hooks and the jack block. Some of them still need painting, so they'll get looked at in the morning. The track plates are oil-washed and get pigment for rust effects.

Tomorrow -- finished, I promise!

Hi guys, okay, I'm calling the Jagdpanther done at this time. it's not perfect but I think I've lifted my game in a few ways, including some new techniques. This is the first time I've used a clearcoat on armour, both creating a low lustre and sealing the decals. I varied the fit a little, I didn't want to use all the spare track plates as they would cover up some airbrushing I was quite proud of, and I left off the wire coil on the starboard flank. The tow cables are off, I was not impressed with the kit items so I might order up some Eureka XXLs to add at a later date.

The tracks are the only real let-down. These are the kit vinyls and they are nicely detailed, but their tension is quite high and as for gluing them down to the tops of the wheels, there was nowhere near enough play. The plan is to replace them with a set of Friuls when finances permit, and to swap these onto another kit built with skirt armour, so the lack of a natural sag won't matter, because it's unseen.

Okay, onto the gallery shots. this is Tamiya's Jagdpanther (Late), paints are Tamiya acrylics (plus Humbrol enamels and Rowney oils), built essentially OOB, the only mod was a driver's vision block. The plan was to do a figure, which is out there in the future as an experiment, the hatch parts are only tacked in place so I can open her op when the time comes.

This is my completion number thirteen for 2014, I didn't mean to end on that number, it just happened!

There she is, then, guys, hope she was worth the wait! It was a fun kit to build and I look forward to doing another in future with the later engine deck and exhaust config, zimmerit and battle damaged side skirts.

Cheers, Mike/Thunderbolt379

Thanks, Bob and Gamera -- it's been fun to build a later-tool Tamiya, and to have a chance to really indulge the weathering techniques. IIRC, this was a vehicle of the 560th Heavy Tank Destroyer Battalion in December '44, therefore part of the Ardennes offensive, and that means cold, wet conditions, therefore rust and dirt were the order of the day, rapidly deteriorating the pre-action prep on the vehicles involved. Even now I can see spots that I missed, where there should be chipping through to either primer or rust (I

must expand my technique to include visible primer spots!)

Cheers, and thanks, M/TB379

Well, I guess Mike finishing his Jagdpanther officially ends this GB.

I'd just like to thank everyone for participating because at the end of the day, a GB is only as good as the guys taking part in it. This one's been a real pleasure to host!
