Guys, very impressive work,  everyone is bringing their A game to this one.  Congrats to those completed so far:

plasticjunkie - great job with the lozenge decals, and that scratch build cockpit looks pro. Yes

rocker - sweet work on the Nieuport, stunning colours. Yes  Is that a magazine cover on the upper wing surfaces?

falconmod - another fine Albatros added to your collection.   Long and delicate decals like that dragon aren't easy, but you got it on perfectly. Yes

Rob - that Roland,  she's a show stopper.  Everything looks impeccable, and that fuselage wood work is first-class. Yes

Doug - the DVII simply brilliant.   Maybe not as colourful, but those b/w stripes are still just as eye-catching, if not more. Yes

Hope I got everyone's finished builds.  If I missed someone, let me know.

-----------------------------------

My plan is still to do a bust for this one, but with all the fine work here representing aircraft, it's hard to resist and not join in with a bipe of some kind.

regards,

Jack

Getting' tough to keep up with you guys.

A bit more done.  I don't see how glue would ever hold the control surfaces in place so I drilled and pinned them and they are nice and secure.  The bottom wing has the cockpit floor panted as wood but it is barely visible.

There are 2 options for the center section of the upper wings.  Some “Harry's” had clear cellon over the center.  And some of these where painted over. The kits come with types of center sections, 1 in gray plastic and the other in clear.  I am wondering if here was a version of the model that was planned to use the clear parts since none of the schemes in the kit have it other than being painted over.  And the internal stuff to assemble the wings is wrong to be seen through the clear.  I roughed the surface with a Scotch Brite pad to give it some tooth for the paint.  And then the upper wind ready to go.

Fuselage closed up and the tail feathers starting to “grow”.

Rocker you really rocked on that one.  May have been your 1st bipe but I'm gonna bet this won't be your last.  Nice.

Plasticjunkie, that is  soooo far away from plastic junk.  Excellent.  Nice touch ups on the lozenge.  great build.

Plastic,

Great looking fighter, I really love the green and yellow colors.  I would like to see a F16 painted in that detail sitting on the tarmac at Lackland AFB.

Shot some Testors flat lacquer to kill the Future gloss for the Jasta 29 fuselage markings. The Lozenge was a bit of a challenge cause those decals are over 25 years old and were very delicate. I had to use several craft acrylic colors to custom blend matching shades to touch up some decal parts that were either too short  or just flaked after applying.

The bottom 1/8th trailing edge had to be painted to complete the pattern.

The scratch built cockpit improves the looks of this old Aurora/Monogram kit.

This one is done and will probably jump in again with something else.

Bish,

Actually, I think every ship builder paints and builds a bit differently.  In this case, I am going to paint the decks first and then paint the structures on the deck next since it is easier to mask a horizontal surface than a vertical.

Once those are painted then the hull colors will be painted on the lower hull and the flying deck.  After those dry then I'll add weathering to everything.  After this I'll go ahead and glue the flying deck to the main deck.  At this point, all the superstructure and turrets will be built and glued on.  I plan on replacing the masts with brass rod since the plastic masts won't take a strain, even with EZ line.

Since I normally rig sailing ships, this will be rather mundane except that I have never used EZ line before.

Steve

Ye, I guess its like any other model and working out what's best for you. I just look at some of these ship models and my first thought is, where do you start. But I guess coming from sailing ships, the modern ones are rather un cluttered.

Well everybody, I spent all day working on my Nieuport and I was able to finish it up! Here are some photos: DSCF1606 DSCF1602 DSCF1605 You guys were right- rigging the plane was not that hard at all! Thanks to everyone who helped me out with building my first biplane. Heck, it was really quite easy! Can't wait to see everyone else's builds come to life! Also- do any of you folks know how I put the GB badge on my comments? I see that just about everyone has one, but I'm not the most tech savvy guy around :)

Steve, are you painting the ship as it looks in your pics. I have wondered how you guys do it as once the superstructure is on, I imagine its a bit of a night mare.

PJ, great work, and love the prop. Ye, there's a choice of badges on page 1 depending on what your building.

Excellent work so far guys.

I was hoping to be done sooner but the struts if mounted as per the instructions would have been easier to mount the top wing but not to apply the lozenge on the bottom of it. It would have left a messy gap so I glued the struts to the top wing and set it aside to dry then carefully sliced them off and attached them to the fuselage first. The messy gap under the top wing was filled with bondo glazing putty and sanded smooth. The lozenge decal went on fine. I still have to add a couple of small lozenge  pieces on the bottom tips.

I then turned the plane upside down and dry fitted the wing at the correct angle using a small box to keep the tail up. I then carefully Tenaxed the struts to the wing and set it aside to cure. The MM bottles keep things in place while curing.

The wheels are dark grey with the pale gray tires

The completed prop with the Axial  logos and a coat of Future for the varnished look.

I also brushed on several Future coats on the fuselage for the decal application.

Thanks Bish!  Now that I have the PE on the deck, I can at least start painting that portion of the Dreadnought.

falconmod- Excellent job! Looks like it's ready to fly over the trenches. wingnut- I really like the job you did with the engine and the pipes! docidle - glad to see hear you're feeling better, nice job with that PE set! I busted a strut a few days ago, causing me to cuss like a sailor. But remembering that my Nieuport flew for the US Army Air Service and NOT the navy, I figured it'd be best to stop cussin' and start fixin! The strut is all set, and the top wing is on! Now all I have to do is weather the plane a bit, then rig it up! DSCF1596

For those wondering where the heck the ship guys are, well, I personally fell off the face of the earth.... I guess I sail too far west.  Actually I was down and out due to health issues and waiting on a very slow boat from China.

The boat brought a set of FlyHawk photo-etch to compliment the Eduard set I have been using.  The FlyHawk set contained a large amount of detail that the Eduard kit missed, although, it is produced for the Zvezda kit, I have been able to use it on my Trumpeter kit.  I am actually impressed with the toughness of the brass as it has withstood my learning curve on how to use PE.

Since I am on my iPad at the time being, this will have to be a double post as I cannot figure out why it is SO difficult to post multiple pictures from my iPad.

The first picture is where I left off with the Eduard set and all the hatches on the deck.  The second one shows all the shiny brass of the added FlyHawk set.

Hope you all enjoy,

Steve

Bish,

If you turn the top wing over and look at the radiator that is molded on the bottom side you can see 2 small indentations on one corner, that's where the pipes go into it.   I was going to use styrene rod and heat form it it to make the pipe but i was sitting at my bench when I realized that a piece of solder from my roll would work even better,  so that's what I used.
