Minor, update....

I'm on the process of making the dio. I bought this air hardening modelling clay...easy to use, clean and model, also very very cheapo..

My idea for the dio is that the left side, upper part is a path, and the tanks make a right turn for shooting poisition making some mud and messing the ground. 

Here it is...

Tomorrow I will be going to a park to pick up, small branches, dirt, small stones, etc. for my dio groundings. Too bad I dont have a store where I could just buy all the already made mud, forest in a pot, etc.. Things are very expensive with the exchange rate and then the shippping.

Tim: Nice progress on the Matilda! I totally agree on that work area being amazingly clean. I try to keep mine nice and tidy but it doesn't work (and all those 190 bits and pieces lying around don't make it any easier)...

Thank you Garzohn!  It has been a blast doing this kit!  Tried to get it as close as I could to the 2 pics that inspired me.  I'd love to do a winter dio for this.  Just might start doing dios next year.  It is really starting to become an interest to me.  Thanks again!

I think I'm going to call her finished!  (trumpets sound)  My first real tank!  Man, this was so much fun and a big thank you to ALL who helped with advice!  Being my first tank kit, I needed all the help I could get and it was ALL much appreciated!  I used dry transfers for the flag for the first time, tried a different muddying technique, and did a little "alterations" for the first time by doing the damaged road wheel!  Thank you Tim and Aaron for hosting this GB.  I learned a lot doing the Villains/Hero GB doing my first figure, and now I've learned even more by doing my first tank!  Thank you all!  What's next...ships!?  No, I have not done a ship either. 

So her she is.  The main inspiration for this build was the Germans capturing it, the recognition flag on the hatch, and the damaged road wheel.  Thanks for looking!

I was able to get into the paint booth this afternoon and spray a little custom mixed Portland stone No. 64:

My goal was to get a light coat on the sponson interior, but mostly hit the road wheels and bogeys. Once the tracks and skirts are on, they'll be inaccessible. The hull red did what I wanted, which was to basically shadow everything up under and behind the bogeys, without being super dark.

Next: tracks!

Tim it's coming along nicely. Without going all the way back I know you spent some time working up the right mix, it's difficult trying to match colors from old photos. Nice job. Terry

Yes, Portland Stone is the official base color for the Caunter scheme.

Thank you sir!  I've learned that mud is your friend!    Tried a different way of doing mud on this build and it turned out better I think.  But, as always, need more practice and will keep on trying new things!

I know I'm going to have to put dirt on mine too, but as I find it hard to dirty up my airplanes much (a philosophical disability) it agonizes me.  I'll do my best to fit in, though.

Here is progress on my 1/48 Bandai T-34.  I tried to find some aftermarket 1/48 tracks but it appears my search is 6 or 8 years late.  My solution was to buy the Tamiya kit, but that didn't work out so well because I goofed and ordered a 1/35 kit by mistake, and therefore had to also get a HobbyBoss 1/48 kit.  Those tracks are much better than the rubbery plastic in the Bandai kit, plus I got a box full of spare parts to work with.  Billions of spare parts as the Bandai kit is much more complex than seems necessary.  Probably the whole kit didn't cost any more than the resin tracks that are no longer in production, either.  So far I have used the seats that suspend from the turret on the Bandai kit, and there are some compressed air tanks that also will find there way in never to be seen again.

   I have the drive train all in, painted and dirtied up some.  I really did try to get it filthy enough, honestly.

So here are the pictures of work to date.  As you can see the tracks come with an assembly jig.  There are ejector pin marks in the links on the outside surfaces at each end.  Mud will be required!  Not really very visible, really.

A dark wash has been sludge washed over the painted wheels, sprockets, and idlers.

I really expect that the uniforms in my case should be German, but these look Russian to me.  Can anyone give me some guidance?  Thanks!

Stik is right, Portland stone No. 64 was the base color for the Caunter scheme. Sorry I didn't answer sooner: I was out of the office on some personal business.

Jack - Yeah, because of the fluorescent lights, the pic shifted a bit green. I noticed it when I uploaded it to photobucket, but you get the idea.

John - very good update.  I've never built a Bandai vehicle, so it is interesting to see how much interior detail they have included.

As for the figure, Tamiya does some 1/48 panzer crew, but are you thinking of just converting the pictured Russian?  The cross straps on his chest and headgear would definitely have to go. Without some re-sculpting I don't think one can arrive at their well known panzer jacket.  You could go for some coveralls or two piece work wear.

Sorry was joking there, Portland Stone #64 sounds like something you've ask for at the local home improvement/hardware store- no idea it was the official colour.
