hello folks, this is an old bandi kit from the Robotech/Macros universe. however, it was also used in the 80's board game from Fasa, Battletech.units, so lots of different markings and paint schemes.

BIG Battletech fan so I'll be watching this build intently!!

Hey Waynec. I like to join but not sure which I want to build. I have a few Robotech kits (man I loved that series.) I also just bought Mobius' Viper Mk I, and have a resin kit for Robotech's Alpha Beta fighter joined as 1 fighter. Ok I decided, going with the resin Alpha Beta fighter combo.

so please sign me up with this kit. I tried starting it a while ago and just got primer and a coat of red on. Guessing I didn't wash the resin pieces good enough as the paint and primer are peeling off.

Ok this goes against all that is sane, but put me down for a ARII 1/20000 Zentradi warship from the series Robotech,  I ran across it in my stash a couple of months ago.

I am suddenly reminded that I have a model of space battleship Yamato buried in my stash. Hmmm...

I'll get some pictures of the models itself over the weekend.  And just to drive that ten year old nuts I'll let you know I have a large bucket of robotech models in my stash, from the vf-1a Valkyries, to the large mech robots, way cool stuff, I wish I would have had more money when they were on the shelves then I'd have even more of them, bruuuu haa haa haa!!!!   resistance IS futile!!

On the other hand weathering this thing to look like it's really 3000 meters long will be a fun challenge.

Australia doesn't have a space program and there are more Ausies in space than Russians. just an observation.  just pulled out the FARSCAPE DVDs.

As host, i am ending this line of discussion because

1. i know any discussion of space babes will take us off topic and

2. the following graphic says all that needs to be said. stay shiny.

FRELL YEAH Wayne!!!

I forgot  that 'FarScape' did have probably the most um... 'easy on the eye' female cast of any TV series I've seen.

Gee, do all Australian women look that??? Stick out tongueHeartAngel

Not sure about the Centauri- I was going to paint it the typical violet and gold with lots of bling- red lights would fit right in!

I'm finishing up my run of an episode a day of 'Thriller' this week and am debating to start 'FarScape' again or 'The Twilight Zone'....

I have the same B5 kit Wayne, I wasn't that impressed either, the Star Fury is pretty nice but the station is tiny and had decals for almost all the detail. Not sure it was ever reissued, wonder if I should built it or hang on to it as a collector's item.

On the subject of B5 I read a humour website years back about a 'mobile brothel' ship in the core of every Centari fleet for... um... ah... 'morale purposes' and thought it would be an.... interesting thing to model. Not sure it would go by Tim and Aaron though!  Stick out tongue

Tim, those photos of the LEGO figures and ships reminds me of when I was a kid and LEGOs were still fairly new.  I remember they had this kind of paperback book that told a story using only pictures of the LEGO kits.  It started out with the city kits and then moved into the space kits.  It was a sort of catalogue/advertisement for the kits, of course.

The pictures in that link you provided seem just like the pictures in that old book (actually it resembled a magazine more than a book).

In any event its really cool!

BSG season 3 almost killed me. I had to opt out half way through and take some time off. When Syfy geared up for season 4, it played a marathon of season 3, and that's when I stepped back in. I was a serious fan up until the end--which left me, shall we say, flaccid?

And yes, cool ships! I've loved the Viper since I was a wee bairn. In fact, I have a Moebius BSG OS model on my desk right now--mostly built. Care to guess which one?

By the way, I thought you guys might like this link. This photographer likes to take realistic photos of Star Wars toys and models. Some of the ship shots are incredible. He uses a super-high shutter speed and tosses sand or snow or whatever at the subjects to get the effects he wants. Here you go!

Fly-n-hi

Looking forward to the BSP build, Aaron.  My wife and I just finished watching the entire series via Netflix and we thought it was pretty good.

It's a wee bit dark, especially to watch in one long session, but it is a great series. And the ships are wicked cool!
I like what you are doing on the MPC X-wing. I have one of these 3/4 done in my stash and I need to ust knuckle under and finish it.

Thanks, Aaron!

Yeah, the ships are cool!  I bought a Moebius Viper Mk II with the Paragrafix PE set after we watched it.  My wife was like "You should build one of those!"  When I build it I'm gonna try to weather the heck out of it!

I'd love it if they came out with a Raptor.

Here's an update on my MPC X-Wing:

I've assembled the engines and sanded then as seamlessly as I could.  The fit of the parts is not very great but they are manageable.  Getting all the plumbing to line up and then making it seamless was a real chore.  After I lined them up as best I could I used a razor saw to sort of dig out the spaces in between the piping.  Then I went over them with liquid cement to sort of soften up any scratches or marks that I couldn't sand out (without sanding off the piping):

The wires are obviously the LED wires.

And speaking of the LEDs...I've changed my mind about how I was going to light it up.  I've bought the LED kit from PoweredPlay Gaming instead of wiring it myself.  These guys have a pretty good setup.  They've designed their product with wargaming in mind but you can use them in just about anything.  Here's the Pink LED kit that I bought:

In order to get the wires as hidden as possible I'll have to cut and re solder them after I assemble the s-foils.  Oh well.

More to come...

Wayne,

Since Tim's signing on, I have to get on board with Moebius' 1/4105 scale (what scale is that, Tim?) Battlestar Pegasus with ParaGrafix photoetched metal details and the Madman Lighting system.

Cheers, Aaron

Hi Wayne,

I like your thinking here. If you'll have me, I'd like to join up with the FineMolds 1/48 scale Star Wars Snow Speeder. If that's all right with you, I'll get the sucker ordered ASAP.

Thanks!

Tim

Hog, are you sure it's paint and not the plastic molded in color?  Either way, you could just shoot a coat of primer and paint as desired.

i have used simple green too. i stumbled across and interesting effect i may try on next camo pattern using simple green. i also use testors paint and decal remover. DON'T LET THINKS SOAK LONG IN IT. it will start to melt details. i let it sit for a few minutes, scrub and wipe than drop the pirce in a tub of water to make sure all is off. sometimes it takes multiple applications.

Hmmm, I'd think just painting over would work.

I've used soaking in Simple Green or oven cleaner before if you have to take the paint off.

So, I am very much unfamiliar with the Revell snaptite pre-painted kits (Slave 1). It looks really good OOB and normally I would be fine building it as is.

However, I want to paint it, even if it will pretty much look the same when I'm done. So I decided to try and strip the paint off last night. My normal method is Purple Power and a tooth brush. The paint is not coming off. Luckily I just tried it on the engines.

Is there something better that will remove the paint?

Do I even need to remove the paint? Can it just be painted over?

Thanks!
