Count me in!  I'll build an MPC X-wing fighter.  I'm gonna use it to try out some new weathering techniques...but also build a quality model.

What about using alternate markings/paint schemes....ie. RotJ speeder bike w/police markings or X-wing w/Luftwaffe markings?

I need to enter another GB like I need another hole in the head but whathehell please put me down with Polar Lights D-7 Klingon Battlecruiser.

She's 1/1000 scale so I guess that makes me Kha... um Stikpusher's 'Mini-Me'...

She comes with 35 parts and is snap-fit so even I can hopefully get this built in a reasonable time frame....

Think I'll paint over the chrome engine grills- not sure the Klingons of this era were big on pimping out their rides...

I've started my build so I'm gonna start posting some WIP pics.

This one is going to have the landing gear retracted.  I attached the gear doors, filled in most of the gaps with CA glue and sanded them smooth:

The pic above also shows the body sections on the laser cannons.

In the pic above you can see that I've installed the nose gear doors and sanded them smooth as well.  I may or may not re scribe the panel lines that represent the outline of the doors.  So far the fit of the parts is not very good.  I will be spending alot of time sanding, filling and sanding again.

I'm also planning on lighting the engines.  I'm going to use 4 red LEDs and a 9v battery.  I believe I can carve out a space for the battery in the lower fuselage half.  I'll wire the LEDS in series and use a 56 ohm resistor to keep the voltage correct.

Here's on of the LEDs that I tested to make sure it works:

In order to do this I need to do a little surgery on the kit.  First, I cut out an opening on the part that settles inside the engine exhaust so that the light will shine through like it does on film:

Then I had to cut out the opening on the end piece.  I did this by drilling several holes around the perimeter of the opening, punched it out and then sanded it smooth with a curved jeweler's file:

Here they are all cut out:

I also had to cut out the openings on the engines themselves.  This time I just used my sprue cutters and cut out several chunks of the part and then sanded it down with the curved jeweler's file.  The part in the center has been cut out:

Then I used a jeweler's needle file to create the opening at the other end where the wire will come out of.  The part on the left has the opening filed out:

Great start on that X-Wing!  I've built a couple of them over the years but I've never had the skill to try and light anything up.  Just wait until you start accurizing the cockpit.

Wayne, I've got to sign up for this, but it will probably be a while before I get building.  I'll build Revell's Jedi Starfighter from Episode III.  I'll get a box pic put up as soon as I'm able.

voodoo fx has a lighting kit for my T-2 HUNTER-KILLER. and i think they are desgning one for the T-2 TANK.. i may do  that. as well hung for a sheep as a lamb.

FLY-N-HI great start on the GB. after doing armor, some of these kits don't have many parts so it's going to put more emphasis on painting, my weak area, and weathering without overdoing it. 

GAMERA i hear that about joining another GB. i've never hosted one and now i am running 2.

Thanks silentbob!  I would like to get one of those Jedi Starfighters.  I've got some ideas for painting one of them in Alclad II and masking off some panels and using Alclad II clear colors.  Good luck on yours!

I didn't even think about lighting up that Terminator HK.  That would be sweet!  I say go for it!

Let me ask this again.....are alternative markings permitted?  For example, can I build a Trade Federation Tank in Heer markings or would it have to have the Federation markings?

Got a little done on the D-7. Funny I've heard a lot about how good these new Polar Lights kits are but I'd had a bunch of seam issues. No big problem but I've been puttying and sanding the heck out of her.

Wayne I'd love to participate but it's like a kid in a candy store, I don't know what to build. I have a few thoughts but I can't pass this one up. Could you please put me down and I'll figure out something.

Wayne I've decided on this Planet Cruiser C-57D by Polar Lights in 1/44 from the movie Forbidden Planet. What cool about this kit is that it's wired for LED's something thats a first for me.

I will join this build. Although I have hundreds of sci-fi kits, I've narrowed it down to the 1/72 scale Bandai VF-1A Valkyrie Super Fighter.

I suppose I'm in. I don't want to sign up for too many GBs for next year, but this one is really hard to resist... Damnit, count me in!

I won't tell you my exact project, but It's going to be something special. The subject is a Star Wars ship...

Here is what I'll do for this GB. It's a bit on the cheesy side, but this was cheap, and it will give me a good chance to work on my painting and weathering.Maybe even some modifying. Plus it's Slave 1

No worries about being cheesy, I have more than a few of those Revell snaptite Star Wars kits in my stash

i'm leaning towards that one too. probably lighten up  the words a bit more so they stand out a bit more.

TO ALL i hope you had a happy and THOUGHTFUL Memorial Day. we went to Ft  Logan national Cemetery in Colorado for the annual ceremony. i met a lady who was in Holland in the winter of '44/'45. she asked if i was a veteran and thanked me. she remembers the food drops the allies did because the Dutch were starving. She moved to the US after the war and became a citizen and still remembers fondly her liberation by US and Canadian forces. ( i was reading an article about that in ARMCHAIR GENERAL magazine last night,)
