"Yellow wings" GB Closed

Guys, I have decided to close this GB down.

I initially thought there would be enough interest but I do not think so anymore, I was busy a few builds for the IPMS MOY -hence my slow start.

I am sory if this was seen as a lack of comitment from my side :-(

I have sent apologies to Modelcrazy and AJD3530 .

Now tat the pressure of the MOY is gone I can also start on my Dauntless..

I am in the same boat, I hoped to have started by now but the MOY have kept me busy for longer than I had hoped.

Shall I extend the end date to say 6 months from now, will that generate more interest?

Once i get my 3 remaining builds that were due LAST year finished, this is one of the first that I'll be starting.for this year. So hopefully in a few weeks I can start

Hi guys, just to let you know this GB is not sead in the water, I just need to get my ducks in a row for the MOY end of January. Then I can get stuck in my 1/48 Dauntless :-)

OK, the P-26 is finished. It build up easy except for the engine exhaust and cowl. The exhaust stacks were a little touchy and I had a hard time with the cowling. The decals were disappointing at best. I had to remove some of the exhaust stacks to get the side decals on, and the wheel pant decals didn't conform to the curvature of the pants at all.The headrest decals weren't much better. All in all though, I feel good about the results.

I shot myself in the foot by saying only US forces yellow wings allowed. I forgot about the RAF,SAAF and Canada's yellow wing fleet  ,darn.

Getting the decals now, For those of you who wish to build this kit in the future, I would recommend installing the cowling decals in separate triangles. The cowl decals come in sets of two, however they do not conform to the curve of the cowling well. I've also installed one of the rigging lines. The kit allows you to thread a line from a wheel pant through a wing, through the fuselage, through the other wing, then to the other wheel pant. This allows for a much easer rigging.

Moldings seem very nice. Resin (over half the parts) looks top notch. Decals printed by Superscale. This will be my first crack at a "short run" kit.

That A-12 looks interesting, I have not built a chech model yet, how are the kits?

I believe the EZ line is the way to go, I have a roll for my SE5.....once I figure out how to use it!

Since I bought the kit used, there was some EZ line, I believe, in the kit that I am going to try. Otherwise, I would go with the good ole stretched sprue.

What will you be using for the rigging?

Yeah. It's not the flashiest of paint jobs is it? It'll look better after the decals and gloss coat. I'm going to take a break on it for a couple of days to finish the MiG 3, then I tackle the engine, exhaust pipes and all the fiddly parts.

OD with high viz yellow wings.......go figure LOL.

here's the P-26 with the yellow and OD, I'm still working on the engine and cowling. After that it's rigging and all the fiddly parts.

I masked the yellow and sprayed the olive drab, looks good but the cowling is seriously frustrating me. I'll keep at it and get some WIP pics up.

Here's the yellow. Now onto masking for the olive drab.

The kit calls for the Chrome Yellow so I'm using MM's enamel Chrome Yellow. Its going on well and leveling out nicely, its' just by far not as easy as other colors. Tomorrow after I wet sand it, I'll apply another coat and let it dry for a while before moving on. It'll look sweet when I'm finished.

I did the testors PT 21 some time ago and I used Model master gloss yellow. I found that you need to build it up in thin coats otherwize it would just pull avay from the pannel lines.

Don't feel to lonely here , I am in the final painting stages of my F-105 for the MOY then I can start in all ernest on my SBD aswell, it will make a nice change from the drap planes I have done lately :-)

I sprayed the yellow tonight, and will wet sand tomorrow night, then give it one more coat. I swear, gloss yellow has to be harder than gloss white to get on and right.

Got the primer on. Next is the yellow wings and olive drab fuselage.

I was just thinking of all the GB's I've gotten myself into, around 8 of them. Sheesh, I'm going to work myself to death, and I plan on doing a 1/350 Indianapolis for the 1945 GB.

Oh well, I'll go happy, then I've instructed my wife to disseminate my stash the the forum members, just incase.
