Bish
It does look grubby, but who is to say a starship can't get dirty. Its a nice result even if its not what you wanted and certainly worth trying on armour.

Porkbits

Agree, Bruce, it does look grubby, but that's the great thing about sci-fi subjects....none of it is real, so you can paint/weather how you want!

And if you end up not liking the look, you can just spray over it. That's what I do sometimes. :-)

Thanks, Bish and PB,

I dove straight in and dirtied the whole Star Destroyer. We'll just say this wasn't one of the flagship SD's!

I'm going to start priming the base later tonight, and I'll have some finished pictures befor the end of the week.

Hey Bruce, that does look good even if it is dirty.

More progress, and probably the last WIP pictures. Conveniently, all of the grey pieces are going to be silver and yellow pieces, well, yellow. The kit fits together pretty darn well in terms of these subassemblies between grey and yellow pieces so I'm going to paint them seperately and then glue them together. I plan on buying some paint tomorrow and hopefully being able to finish this just in time for the deadline.

Happy TFA Day! Hope everyone gets a chance to see it soon. Going tonight and can't wait. :-)

Hope to post some progress pics of the X Wing soon. Slow going for me as usual, but getting there.

Have a good night PB. I am off to see it on Sat. Look forward to seeing those pics.

Coming on nicely Josiah.

And just a reminder all. The GB may officially end tomorrow, but please carry on posting your pics. One can never have to much Star Wars, despite what some in another thread .

Clearly the Force is not with them.

And just to remind you all, there will be an Ep III GB in the lead up to the release of Ep VIII movie in May 2017. I have been giving it a lot of thought, and given we have just had this GB, my current plan is to run the next GB from Dec 16th 2016, when Rouge 1 is released, until May 26th 2017, current release date for Ep VIII. That makes it just over 6 months.

So i hope you will all be along for the next one.

Thanks, Bish. Sounds good. I'll join the next GB if I can find a suitable subject. I'm sure there will be tons more new SW kits out by then, though, so probably won't be hard to find something.

Don't know about the rabble rousing on the other thread, but sounds like some people are tired of all the SW hype. :-)

Gentleman,

I am calling the Star Destroyer complete. I would like to thank Bish for hosting this Group Build! Your GB’s are always a pleasure to be involved with, so I’m looking forward to another Star Wars GB in the future! And to all the participants, all of the positive comments and intelligent critiques were very inspiring, especially when I was doubting some of my decisions. Well without further delay, here are the pictures. Hope you enjoy!

First off, that looks menacing and fantastic Bruce! I agree about the blue but you'll get it right, still looks good as is. My naboo star fighter is done! The greedy trade federation tried a blockade to keep it from getting painted but alas good prevailed. I will post pictures tomorrow.

I do like that Bruce. Ye, the blue is a touch to dark, but that no biggy. I like how you have displayed it as well. I'll add it to the front tonight. And of course, will be a pleasure to have you join in next time.

Here she is...I may make a base for her in the future, I really don't like the one that comes in the kit though, it is just tacky. As for now she'll be a ceiling hangar.

Colors are model master acryl chrome yellow, and tamiya silver both of which brush painted on. I really like the third picture, I just love those lines.

Thanks for hosting this build Bish, I apologize to everyone I was gone for the majority of it, but there are really some spectacular builds in here!

Two great finishes gentlemen! If you do decide at a later date to change the blue in the engines of the star destroyer, something that might work would be to paint them white with a drop or two of light blue in it, and then rub in some darker blue pastels at the base of the engine. I did something similar when I was younger with the deflection dish of the movie version of the USS Enterprise and the engines of the Enterprise D.

Got those 2 builds added to the roster.

Josiah, nice job on the fighter. I hope you do a stand and please post some pics.

I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the GB. We have some great builds there and i know we have a couple more to come. As is my practice, i will post a round up thread, in this case in the Sci Fi section. I will wait until the end of the month to give our final builds a chance to finish off.

Josiah, The Naboo Starfighter looks fantastic! Great job!

SB, yes, I believe the color combination you mention would work. Sound like you know what look I'm going for!

Awesome SD, Bruce! And that stand is really nice. Good trophy for your collection. :-) I think you did the best you could with the engine color outside of using a lighting kit.

And good looking Naboo fighter, Josiah.

Thanks for hosting the GB, bish. It's been very enjoyable. I'll post some progress pics soon, prob over the weekend.

Oh, and if you're a die hard SW fan of a certain age, you'll love TFA. Not a perfect film by any means, but I will definitely see it again. And maybe a third time. :-)

Hey, guys:

Here are a few photos of where I'm at. Wings are FINALLY about 98% done (haven't glued the engines yet, nor stuck the wings together). I started the base coat for the fuselage. My plan is to weather the top and bottom back halves of the fuselage, assemble it and the wings, then paint and weather the rest.

As usual, everything but the kitchen sink--acrylics, enamels, washes, filters, pastels, chipping, etc.

Thanks for looking!

It certainly did not dissapoint. Definatly some surprises and i will definatly be watching it over an dover again. Come April when its released on disk, the Star wars marathon will get that little bit longer.

PB, thanks for the comment on the SD! And thanks for confirming that TFA is worth seeing!

The X-wing is looking fantastic! The weathering is spot on. Looking forward to seeing this complete!

I went last night with my son and we both enjoyed TFA. For me, it was very reminiscent of A New Hope. My wife rolls her eyes whenever I bring up going to see it again though... I finally got the base all stained and sealed and I'm hoping to get some celluclay on it tomorrow. Here's hoping I'll get it wrapped up by the end of the month.

Bob, i know what you me, there were quite a few referances to A New Hope. Must be Abrams trademark.

Really looking forward to see your beast on its base and going into action.

Thanks, guys!

My intent is to make a beat-up, reaching-the-end-of-its-service-life X-Wing, one that's seen heavy space and atmospheric duty. That said, I might tone down the weathering on the engines a bit before I'm finished. Will have to see how everything looks when I finish the fuselage.

I think you have the weatherting really down well for an end of the line X-65. Maybe this was one of the last in service before the X-70 came along. The ones in the new movie are certainly not all pristine condition.

So I think I've spent more time on the base than the kit.  I gave up on waiting for the other one to dry and started over.  I put celluclay down last night and it wasn't until this evening that it had dried enough for me to put in the tracks.  The track in the upper-right corner is a little faint, but a foot will be there so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.  Hopefully it will be fully dried tomorrow and I can start painting.
