Nice! I'm mostly doing seam clean up on the wings and rocket motors, and scratch work for the cockpit so far. Photos coming later on...

I found this nice WWII era color footage of a captured Ohka... on Okinawa I presume.

Well the combination of a bad jar of neutral gray, some peeling because I didn't prime to save time, and a family crisis, I obviously didn't get finished in 48 hours. I do plan in finishing this weekend though.

Tough break ajd. I'm sorry to hear about all that.

Well here are a few update photos. I have mostly been doing scratch work. I finally found a good photo of an original Ohka seat and saw that it had rounded upper corners so a bit of filing and it was better. Of course the lightening hole pattern does no match, but hey, at least it looks close. I also created the rudder bar, a contol stick and someof the linkage. As well as starting work on the IP. Lots of filing and hollowing out are in store ahead.

I also installed some rear cockpit decking and more interior work

and of course seam clean up and hollowing out the rocket motor nozzle walls... those things must have been a good 2mm thick originally... now much better

more to come later on...

68GT, Out Of Box, your 229 looks about as challenging as my Ohka...Wink Keep It Simple... Yes

Too bad I can't follow my own advice...

completed scratch built IP

this is what I am shooting for

then my sidewall work...

with seat, IP, and stick & rudder bar assembly

and all placed together for how it will fit

all ready for interior painting in a bit once it has some time to dry...

AJD-sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Nice work guys.

Just got started on this weekend's build-Tamiya 109E-3, 1/48.  Will be building as a Battle of Britian plane-not sure whose plane at this point.  Goal is to get finished but will be happy to get a good start on my Battle of Britian GB, which ends soon.

Canopy has been Futured, interior bits primed and getting readly to apply a coat ofRLM 02 on the interior bits-goal is to get the interior in tonight and the fuselage & wings together-maybe even primed-we'll see.

Finishing up for the night-its 9pm CST and I'm done for the day.

Got the interior done-not happy with the quality of the work, but the canopy will be closed so most, if not all, of the detail will not be visible.

Did get the fuselage & wings together-hopefully I can finish the fuselage early tomorrow am and get it primed.  Also need to mask the canopy first thing....I hate masking canopies...

Gotta love the Tamiya kits-fit is going to allow me to forgo any putty....I think...I hope...

Bob, all that kit should need is glueing, sanding, and painting. Nice work so far. Yes

0035 hrs here, I am gonna post these photos and call it a night...

I did a long airbrush session this evening after dinner and painted all the interior components

when test fitted, now everything looks uniform in color...

decals applied for the instruments and the fuselage halves glued together, plus paint scraped away from teh seat mounts and the area where the stick & rudder bar assembly will go

I'm gonna let it dry overnite, sand the seams in the morning, attach the wings, tailplane and canopy, then get the base paint on....

Big challenge.  There arent many parts and not much of an interior.  I stole a piolot from another kit cause that is all that can be seen.

Last nights pictures.  I like the cell phone in the pictures but Im using it to take the pictures.

Aj sorry to hear this, family definitely comes first.  Look forward to seeing it finished. Stik, nice work on the Okha!  I'm surprised Tamiya never made one for their Betty kit.  68gt, I always enjoy your builds.  GM, are you there?  Started my build a little later than planned.  Cut the first piece off the tree at 0701 CST.  By 1500, had something that looked like an airplane.  Putty should be just about dry.  Fixing to head to the LHS for supplies. Hopefully, there will be enough time to sand seams before leaving for my club's Christmas party.  Should be in primer tonight before hitting the sack. Pics tomorrow.

I'm out. I'm done. Stinking computers and chips and trying to upload photos is not working. And I do not have the time to figure it out. Thanks for letting me play.

I have AMPS to go to this afternoon and no time to mess with a stinking finicky laptop...

Stik, you've got plenty of time left.  Go hang with your armor buddies, then come back with a clear head and finish the Okha.  Don't worry about posting pics as you go along.  Take them, then post them when you're done.  You can do this, after all, we didn't quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor did we?  I look forward to posting your pic on the wall of fame.

Ed-nice work-paint looks good

Stik-hang in there-you've got too much work in-some great scratch building to boot....I am looking forward to seeing the end results

The Tamiya kit is a 'shake & bake' but there are still some seams that I probably overlooked until the paint makes them more visible.  I was able to get the wings & fuselage done earlier this am, primed and the RLM 65 on.  Had a minor airbrush issue but I think/hope it's sorted out-it's been over a year since I last airbrushed-still looking for supplies in the unpacked boxes-this GB has been good to get me moving again-I hope.

Doubt I'll get finished by 1700 tomorrow but I should be able to finish it for the BoB GB-still need to mask the canopy, apply the camo, Future, decals, etc....nah-it ain't gonna happen....still happy to be here though...

Hey guys,

Sorry, but I have been very ill the past week or so and I wasn't able to participate last weekend.  But, I'm back and ready to go again.

Some fine work posted thus far and congrats to all those who have been part of this years madness builds.

So, with no further adieu, here I go.  It's going to be a 1:30 AM start, Sunday Morning.  !/48 Revell F-15E Strike Eagle.  Problem is, I can't seem to get Photobucket to play nice.  I have a pic with the clock and I will try to post it later I guess, but in 12 min.  I'm up and running again!

Updates shortly I hope!

Here is where I had reached before I left for AMPS this afternoon. I scrounged up some new decals to replace the kit ID numbers that shattered... that just put the topping on my afternoon with this kit...

and teh replaced front sight post and the improvised attachment lug scrounged from my spares bin.

Tomorrow morning I will finish this up...

68gt, really liking the Ho-229. Bob, the 109 is looking good. Glad to see you finally got stared GM, I really liked the sound of what you had for dinner! Stik, glad that you're back. Caveman, that's a sweet kit you're starting. Perhaps the best kit of the Mudhen out there. As for me, got back from the party and before going to bed, the Skyraider was in primer. It's about to come down with a case of the blues. Later.

Well, between the computer/photo glitch, and Saturday afternoon AMPS meeting, that took about the final 6 hours out of my alloted 48 from my start time. Now my problem is that today is my Monday for work and with tonite's mandatory overtime shift, and my usual goings on during the week, I dont think that I have 6 hours in one day free until Friday at the soonest, and then probably not. So I will nickle and dime the finsh work over the next week as best I can.

Stik, keep at it. A couple of days ago, I added a Honorable Mention wall to the front page. To anyone who has started a model for this build, and can get it done by the end of the year, they will go on this wall. Let's finish what we started ladies and gents. Caveman still need a decent pic of the Forger for the front page.

Thanks Lew. This is easily a 48 hour project. Too bad I did not have 48 hours... Hmm

So last nite before bed I was looking thru my laptop's photo library, and low and behold the "missing" photos had loaded into the main portion, rather than into a sub folder as they had been doing... so I edited them, uploaded them to PB, and went to sleep....

the final cockpit photos before I closed it up

wings and tailplane glued on

bomb shackle attachment lug (taken off of a Panzer III roadwheel arm). I also drilled away the kit front sight post for replacement with some styrene rod

canopy masked and glued in place

styrene shim for gap filling, sanded to match the sourrounding area

new front sight post added

rocket motor nozzles, and control surface balance horns (not bad small details for a 50+ year old kit)

base paint coat on, Tamiya IJN Gray Green

and after this I did the Future coat and decals that were in the photos in the post before this... The Cherry Blossom decal is from the kit, but the ID numbers shattered, so I took some IJN tail code decals and cut off the 1st prefix letter and last suffix number to make a replacement set...

so the post above is how the kit looks this morning.

Stik, I've always wished I picked up that set.  I'm going to have to look around for it.

Ya know, it really is a cool little kit and a perfect canvas for somebody who wants to try their hand at scratch building a cockpit. If I was not in such a hurry here, I could really have gone all out now that I know where to look for reference.

The V-1 could use a little help too. I built that in about 20-30 minutes Friday nite, but will not add it here.

aside from the original Hawk boxing of this kit (which probably costs a small fortune now if you could find one at a collector show)

the Testors or Italeri boxings are still to be found for a good price here and there...
