Hang in there Raider, you are making great progress.

As for me, well, this MS11 5-S is taking getting used to.  Got all the pre-build painting done.

Looks good, scott.

You probably ran across some research indicating that the Navy was using 5-N as a substitute for 5-S very early, and that Enterprise was put into Measure 11 using the Navy Blue.

I opted for Sea Blue, too, when I built Enterprise--since so many carriers received 5-N when Measure 21 was adopted.  I thought it made a nice alternative, and the references I used also indicated 5-S.

Nice progress, Raiderhall!  Your photos remind me that I have to scratch the Wasp's deck-edge elevator on the Aoshima kit.  They left that out.

Thank You Guys!  By the way if you don't have a mind set of this build is not going make you go krazy. Do not buy this kit. Because it will!

Hi ya! I'm still slugging it out with the PE, there's so much of it to do. Here's a few update pics of what I'm dealing with.

The 20mm guns and the gun mount and there's a lot of them to do along with the 40mm's.

The kit ship crane compared to the PE crane.

The difference between the main radar screen.

There's four of these towers.

The bottom of the kit outboard elevator which lacks any detail.

And after the PE been added. The bottom brackets on the elevator edge platforms were tiny and a pain to install.

Upper view.

Though the tiny parts were a pain, in the end it is an improvement from what Trumpeter gives you.  Just needs to be hit with paint now but that will be after I get the flight deck glued to the hull.

Just need to add the yardarms to the tower and after I paint the camo scheme on the island, glue the tower to the island.

The PE is just making this a time consuming project for me. I'm bouncing from one area of the ship to another as a way of taking a break. But when some of these pieces are done and seeing how they're enhancing the kit, it's making me want to press on and finish her.

Nice-looking work with the PE, AS.  I've been doing some myself, but not to the level you're taking it.  Truly, it is time-consuming--and frustrating when the little parts keep falling off before the glue can grab them.

By the way, what are you using for glue?

Progress on Yorktown.  Finished up six Dauntlesses to go into the hanger deck.  I marked them for the scouting squadron, using Starfighter Decals and Trumpeter's planes.

Dauntlesses in the hanger deck.

They won't show up much once the flight deck blocks the light.

Two PE .50's (from White Ensign) and the 20mm tub in place.

By the way, what are you using for glue?

I'm using thin insta-cure super glue. For some of the problem pieces I would attach the part using tacky glue then run the superglue over it, seems to work.

Those Dauntless aircraft of your are looking sharp. I will most likely throw a few in the Trigonderoga hanger deck. Going have to order a few more plane sets before I'm done.

Great progress everyone, I wish I can add something, but the weather was nice this week so its been back to flying RC and yard work.  Its supposed to get back up into charbroiling temps later this week so I am planning some cool basement workshop time.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Very nice looking airgroup, surfsup!  Lots of detail in such tiny things.

Progress on CV-5.

Flight deck installed.  I'll need to flat-coat it yet, to blend the decals in.  Looking around the net, there were about four different opinions out there about the lines on the deck, including that there were no lines at all.  I opted for this one just because I liked it.

View of the stern with two 20mm's in place under the flight deck.  I used WEM's Yorktown class PE set for these.

Boats installed on the hanger deck, and, as I suspected, the Dauntlesses inside are all but invisible.  You can just barely discern the star insignias on the fuselages.

Looking good there! Are those WEM's 20mm's one piece units?

Archangel:  They are WEM, but they come from the Yorktown-class PE set.  They are in two pieces--the gun shield is separate and has to be attached.  Thanks for the comment!

I was hoping they were one piece just to make things easier. The Eduard set is 3 pieces....the mount stand which 3 legs must be bent upwards. The gun is 2 connected halves which folds together then the gun shield. Gluing those together can make one eyes crossed.

I've seen some 1/700 20mm's with that three-leg option.  I can see where they would challenge anyone's eyeballs.

Corsair Armada makes some 20's in PE with cast resin base.  I used them on CV-6.  The barrel and shield is separate on these, too.

Two gun tubs I had to scratchbuild, for the aft catwalks.  They each hosted one .50 cal water-cooled Browning.
