Dave, that is just my opinion. I don't think it's fair to the builders who finish their model compared to the one who starts and then boxes it. I think of it as a reward for a job well done. Again, just my 2 cents. We'll let the community decide. For me the badge is an extra incentive to finish the job. Cool [8D] From what i can tell all the builds seem to have no policy as of yet, so I'm not singling this build out.

Feel free to do what you want, but i was under the impression that badges were earned, hence I will not be adding any badges until i complete the build. Like i said, that is just what I will do, but I think everyone is entitled do what they want.

Oops! I put the badge in my sig 'cause I noticed that other ppl were doing same. Certainly makes sense to me to leave it as a 'prize' for finishing, so badge gone!

But watch this space - it'll be back! Smile [:)]

Cheers, Andy!

Blush [:I] I hope no one took this the wrong way, it was more of an observance thing. I have no doubt that most of the people who start will indeed finish their builds, especially on this topic. I look forward to earning my badge.

As for my build, it's OOB and this kit is really old. It was updated, but they only added some new crew members. It's got some nice injection pin marks that are huge and noticeable. Anyway, straight forward build. If I'm lucky I may get to paint tomorrow.

Thats fine gregers, welcome to the build!

I just realized that the M3A2 I'm building would count for this build so you can put me down for that too, Lizard

Well after seeing the general consensus seems to be taking it out I have taken my badge out as well. Not quite done with my 222 yet but I am getting there. There was a point when I thought the underside of that thing was going to get the better of me. But alas I pervailed. I kept whispering to myself,,," You gotta be10% smarter than the piece of equipment your operating."

I hear ya Andy,,,,,, I have had my Airbrush for about 6 years and only started using it on a regular basis in the last year or so. Still trying to figure out all the little nuances with it. Its a great tool to have,, especially since spray paint cans here in NO. Va. are $4.29 a can. Not sure why the undercarrage was kicking my butt so bad but it was getting the upper hand there for a little bit. Funny thing was when I figured out what I was doing wrong I looked at myself and said "you Idioit". I hate moments like that.

hiya, gang !
if i finish up my universal carrier from the weekend group build, will that count
4 this one ? it's the airfix kit w/ the 6 pdr., so i could even qualify 4 the towed gun build as well...
can't afford any new kits rite now, so i'm trying 2 get motivated 2 complete some stuff that's been sitting in limbo during my sherman project.
so, what d'ya think ?

Why is there no smiley for 'rolling on the floor laughing' ... Its all a question of perspective - down here to my part of the world they are near enough $10 a time - and they don't put extra paint in them either! Sad [:(]

Should probably point out that the 250/10 is at a standstill! I have got all the interior 'subassemblies' ready for paint, and the Censored [censored] compressor goes and blows a seal or something! Runs and runs but won't build up any pressure. I am determined to make the change to acrylics on this one and since I can't spray, I decided to try brush painting the interior.

"How hard can it be?" I asked myself - "It's just paint..."

If anyone wants advice about stripping badly hand-brushed Tamiya acrylics, I'm your man! Gettin' it on smoooooth and even just can't be done - at least not by an old enamel-hand like me Sad [:(]

And needless to say, nobody local carries any compressor parts, so its waiting for my next trip into the Big Smoke.

All of which is a total pain in the thingy-whatsit!

Cheers, Andy.

Sorry to hear about your painting woes Andy. I changed to acrylics myself not too long ago, and I find having a little jar of water/metho or X-20a thinner nearby that I continually wash my brush in helps me immesely. Keeps that fast drying paint flowing smooth.

Hi everyone. I promise, I'm still in this thing too - I also removed my badge from my sig. until I complete the build.

My build is on hold for awhile though, until I get some other major projects done. But I'll resume around the second week of May.

I'm building the Tamiya Sd.Kfz. 250/3 and I'm still trying to decide if I want to be cliche and build the "Grief" version or some other. Anyway, there's a shopping list of mod's I want to make to this kit and some inherent problems I can't overcome. It's getting to be difficult to leave it alone, but I must, just for a few more weeks.

I've completed the links, and I had finished with the wheels, but I decided to make some modifications to the drive sprockets, so I removed them. I'll probably have to nearly scratchbuid the interior to be happy with it.

The progress that has been posted is very inspiring. I'll try my best to keep up with what's going on here.

See y'all in May!

Ugh. This is a kit that needs some updating. It's pretty old by modeling standards of today(30 years). It does come with some extra goodies like crewmen. I wish it were totally retooled though. I seem to be slothing(if there were such a word) along. I was hoping to paint today, but perhaps later in the week.

Frosty - I would not see why not, these things are supposed to be for getting motivated and getting something done right?

Frosty. Usually it's been one kit for each build, but hey, you build the 6 pdr for the towed gun build and the UC for this build. Sounds fair to me (I jokingly suggested that I build the 3.7mm Pak 36 for the gun build and the Krupp Protze in the same box for this one).

All said and done, who could say no to you anyway.

Hope all is well at home now. Also hope you come into a bit more money soon too. Waiting to see the final pics of your Sherm build.

Hey Gang just a quick note to let you know that I am plugging along on the 222. Little things like water cans without the handles cut out are slowing me down. I thought about scratch building them and still may if anyone out there can tell me what size styrene to use to make the proper sized water can holders for the sides. There might be a PE set but I think it will be cheaper to make it out of styrene or maybe even foil. Edog or Phroosh if either of you got any Ideas they would be appreciated. I have extra german water cans just needs some ideas for the holders.

I haven't quite started mine yet, but I know the bit you are talking about. I'll have another look when I home, but I think stiff foil would be good if you wanted to rough it up a bit. If you have any spare PE frets, they might be handy. Styrene would work too. Off the top of my head I would probably use .010 or .015. Would make a huge improvement; leave one empty for effect! Hopefully I start mine soon, just needed a break from building a lot of stuff from scratch after my last two projects!

feldgrau23,

I would use .010 sheet styrene or how about parts cut from an aluminum soda can? Have you thought about thick paper, or card board?

Feldgrau another option is thin (.005 or .010) brass sheet. If you go to a motor vehicle accessories place you might be able to get stuff called 'shim paper'. Over here it is brass sheet used to make washers and things. It is cheaper than buying brass sheet from your LHS. I use it and it works great. Just cut it using a steel ruler as a guide and a large cutting knife with a safety blade. You just run it along the ruler with even presure a few times. You can get nice thin strips, but if it curls a bit, just bend it to straighten it out. You can even cut it with flat bladed scissors if you want to make larger items or curved things.

Here`s a pic of my progress to date. Both models are base coated and sealed with Future. I have started to detail the engine compartments and weathering the back of the 2 1/2 ton truck to show some wood colour through the OD.

Sorry that the pic is a bit blurred.

To stop thin strips cut from sheet stock - plastic, brass, whatever - from curling the trick is to leave the start and the end of the cut till last. Make your several light cuts like pb says, but start and end each cut two or three millimeters (1/8 inch - whatever) from the edge of the sheet. Once the cut is right through, then just nip the 'end bits' through, and voila! Straight strips!
