I am so in for this.

I have been working through a vac form all year and to complete a model in 48 hours will be a relief.

I'll nominate a 1/48 JS 2 from Tamiya. That should be sensibly achievable...

Nice one Lewbud. Mark me in for another Airfix 1/72 Spitfire. Continues the theme from last year for me. I'll work out which marque later on.

I'm happy to do it on the 19th if there is demand for it, as I often enter multiple times and December gets very busy.

Cheers

Thank you, but no. I will pass this year. I am in the groove on a project now, and after a long period of modelers block for much of this year, I do not want to ruin that now...

Oh, man. I was hoping you were going to say it started Nov. 4, since the lady is out of town this weekend, and I've got a Tamiya Mustang Mk.III that's itching for a reason to be built. After this weekend things get pretty well booked up through the end of the year for me.

Well, I'll follow along on this one and wish you all the best!

In all seriousness, thank you. The scale is 1/48, and it will be in RAF markings for a Polish pilot.

I just need to come up the date, one that the wife agrees with (She still bothers me with a to do list, but an least I have a excuse when she agrees on a date)

Oh, man, I think planning will be key to this one, so I made myself a to-do list with estimated times, and it's going to be tight, at best.

Since this is the time change weekend and I don't want to cheat, I'll make sure I take that into account on the ending time.

Today I got out most things I think I'll need.

I'm hoping to duck out of work an hour early tomorrow and kick this thing off around 4:30.

Fortunately, the scheme I'm building doesn't seem to have weathered all that much. Mostly just some scratches around the wing root, which will save me a lot of time.

Wish me luck - I think I'm going to need it.

That Tamiya Mk III 'Stang is one of my favourite kits Brandon, it just goes together beautifully. Good luck with it.

I'm half tempted to have a crack at one this weekend too....I just don't have a reason to justify it other than enthusiasm.

Cheers

Grr, Photobucket is down for maintenance. Well, I kicked this thing off at 4:01 p.m. today, Nov. 4. I'll post the pic once Photobucket comes back online.

Anyway, I shot the primer for the first wave of painting while the parts were on the sprue and moved directly into the first base coats (Testors Yellow Zinc Chromate for the wheel wells, Model Master Interior Green for the cockpit and Mr. Paint Duraluminum for flap interior parts, gear doors and legs, and wheels). Since I primed with Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black, I just didn't paint parts like the instrument panel, radio and fuel tank, since they were already black.

At this point I have the cockpit and wheel wells detail-painted, and they have a Flory Dark Dirt wash on them. Once I scrub that and drybrush them, it's time to glue the fuselage halves together, (wings are already together).

Then I can eat! (Which is actually ahead of the schedule I set for myself, so hopefully I don't run into a lot of seam work to do - I should't with this kit - and I will finish by Sunday at 3 p.m. Pacific time).

Thanks all. This is fun - and the fastest I've ever worked before!

Ok, end of day one.

Here are the original pics meant to go with above post:

I realized that clock didn't show the date, but just said "Today,) which is totally useless, so I started using the lock screen.

In the above pic, I had just finished up portions of thecockpit detail painting and they were awaiting a wash.

Just before closing the fuselage. Not quite 7 p.m.

And here I have the fuselage closed.

It needed some help being held shut at the top, and then I started masking the canopy. Off and on, when I was waiting for things to dry, I painted the wheels and propeller blade tips and that sort of thing.

One last look at the cockpit before I closed it up for good (Tamiya doesn't really provide a way to have the Malcolm hood open with this kit, and I'm totally OK with that this time. You can saw off the front piece, as there is a spare one of those, but you'd have to be pretty careful with the Malcolm hood itself, and I just didn't feel like doing that.

Here there was still a seam along the spine that needed attention. Right after this shot, I layed down some Mr. Dissolved Putty and then took the dog on a long walk because she was giving me that look.

Once we were back, I sanded the seam, re-shot the primer, and since it looked good, I went ahead and sprayed the stripes on the wings and horizontal stabilizers. Tamiya doesn't show these in the color scheme, but the pics I have of this plane definitely show these stripes or invasion stripes, so I figured I should add them.

First order of business for tomorrow is masking the stripes, then spraying the Sky fuselage band. That can cure while I do a run, and then I can mask it and get to work on the main colors.

Tomorrow is my dad's birthday, I basically realized that if I don't get this thing ready for a clear coat before I head over to my parents' place in the late afternoon, it isn't going to make the deadline of 3 p.m. Sunday (I have to pick up my girlfriend between noon and 2 on Sunday.

But at the end of day one, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Thanks for letting me take a crack at this one this weekend, Lewbud. This is the most fun I've had modeling in a while.

Well, today was a rush. Meant to post sooner, but got stuck in traffic coming home from my parents' house. Normally a 15-minute drive turned into an hour.

When I woke up, I masked the white stripes, then sprayed the Sky band and went for my run.

Once back from that, I masked the Sky band and shot the Medium Sea Gray underside, then went grabbed a coffee and took the dog for a walk while it cured.

Directly after that, I masked the demarcation line, then went into the garage fora marathon session to paint the rest of the plane. I ran into a time-killing "problem" that turned out to be my not realizing I had my air compressor turned off. I'd thought my airbrush was clogged and couldn't figure it out. Sad

Anyway, I got the paint done, then shot it with a clear coat and left at 3 p.m. to head to my parents' place for my dad's birthday.

Once I got home, I went straight to decals. Unfortunately, the yellow leading edge line decals disintegrated, so I will have to spray them tomorrow, which should be doable in the time limit, barely. I do have to finish by 3 p.m., but will likely be pulled away between noon and 2, so noon is my real deadline.

Anyway, I got the second gloss coat on tonight, and it's ready for a morning panel line wash, then flat clear, then those lines. And then some light weathering and attaching of the gear and fiddly bits, and it should be done. Here's to hoping I don't mess up the roundels with the tape I'll need to use to mask the yellow lines.

I think the white on the nose looks funky here because of the angle. Hopefully that's not another thing I need to fix, but I don't think it is.

I finished!

Not as weathered as I generally like, but my pics of this plane show it to be surprisingly clean, maybe because it was thesquadron leader's aircraft. Anyway, that's one of the reasons I chose it.

Girlfriend ctually came home early, so I was a bit rushed, but I did finish in time for the armorer to hang the bombs from the pylons with care, in hopes they'd find a V-1 site, and destroy it from the air... (In keeping with the wonderful time of the year bit).

Well, that was an absolute blast. Thanks for letting me run this weekend, Lebud, and I can't wait to see what the rest of you pull off in the weekends to come!

Hey Lewbud,

As some know, I'm making my comeback from my wifes passing and I think this will be a fun GB to get back into the swing of things.  I've moved, settled in, and have my building room set up and running!  Even bought a spray booth!!!  So I would respectfully like to request entry into the GB!

I have a bunch of those PM 1/72 Luft '46 kits that are perfect for this GB.  I know, it only takes about 20 minutes to put one together, but I spend 5 hours or more doing the painting and camo schemes!  LOL!  If I get done too early, I'll do 2 of them.  I'll send you the actually kit details and pics tonight.

Lewbud - I prime in Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black. I build up the paint slowly, and usually am able to get a subtle shading effect going on (I kind of rushed it on this one, but it sort of still worked out).

As for the light colors - I don't have any problems with them. For the white stripes here, I put seven drops of white in 14 drops of thinner and stirred with a toothpick that I had just slightly dipped in Neutral Grey. It helped the coverage a bit as well as toning down the starkness of the white.

The only color I have trouble with painting over black is red, so I usually undercoat it with yellow or gray. Everythng else seems to work as long as I build the paint up slowly. If I hose it on, that's where I get ridges in the paint. But that didn't happen with this build, and I think doing the white stripes first was helpful with that.

Eagle, very sorry to hear about your wife. I can't imagine what it's like. Good to hear you are using the hobby for a bit of therapy.

I have started due to a change in work schedules, I have a few days open RIGHT NOW.

So I started this afternoon just after 1:

By early afternoon, the main body was together and I thought it would be all over really quickly. But the road wheels took for ages to clean up and put together. My dream of having base paint completed tonight was out the window.

Then there was shopping, cooking and helping with exam revision and some glasses of wine, so by the end of the day, I had only just finished the turret. And now I am wrestling with photobucket... Oh well start painting in the morning.

Into the paint shop this morning, and it is now green. Tried to get a bit of colour variation going by mixing the base with black for the wheels etc down low, and mixing a bit of yellow-green in for the highlights. Quite subtle, need more practice - later.

Next decaled the model (grand total of two) and hand painted the berlin recognition markings.

Decals are silvering over the cast texture on the turret, so I have slashed them up a bit and applied more setting solution. Next will be the gloss coat before some light weathering.

Okay, it is 2:13 am and time for bed!

Son's birthday today so plenty of family duties. But did get the gloss coat on, and after seven hours drying time, have done dot filters and pin washes.

I have taken photos as I have been working on it, will post them tomorrow.

Tracks were painted with metaliser then sealed before getting some rusty coloring.

Nice looking tank, Lostagain. Sorry to hear about the silvering, but I can't see it from here, so hopefully it's really slight and the solvent took care of it. Can't wait to see it finished!

I'm assuming the tracks aren't indy links if it's a weekend build?

Thanks Brandon,

slashing it a bit and drowning in decals olvent seemed to do the trick.

Photos from last night:

All glossed up

Tracks weathered. They are the usual Tamiya arrangemet for 1/48 sections shaped to go around the wheels. You're right Brandon, NO indy links for a weekend build!

Started with a dot filter on the turret:

Then onto the body:

And then time for bed with a pinwash added:

And now it's back to morning local time I have just under 3 hours to go so see you soon...

With 2 hours to go I was on track! These were a bit hard to get together - the instructions call for them to be built before the hull top goes on, so there is not much space, especially round the drive sprocket.

Then it moved pretty quickly, in just over an hour I had applied the flat coat, misted on some buff to give a touch of dust over the tank. An aerial was added, black pastel for exhaust and muzzle and installed the tow cables on the back. Calling it done:

Took it outside to get some good shots:

This one does show a bit of the colour variation on the top deck:

Thanks very much for running this lewbud.  It is great to do a kit in 48 hours. My build for the 1946 GB has been going for 10 months and I am yet to join 2 of the kit pieces together!

Thanks very much and look forward to seeing all the other builds on their way.

Hi Lewbud,

I'd like to have a crack this weekend please, as I have to spend a significant amount of time at home. I may have another go next weekend, as I enjoy this GB and might do more than one, but there's a good chance I will be too busy.

Since I've been in a figure painting mood, I'd like to introduce you to the Andrea Miniatures 54mm British Royal Marines Commando Officer from 1943.

It's a white metal kit with exquisite detail, and  Ienjoy 54mm (1/32) as it's a little larger than 1/35.

Here's the starting photos, as I started it earlier this morning. It's next to my wifes phone to record the starting time. I'm in Melbourne so it was 8.26am this morning.

First look out of the bag. It's been in a box in the garage for over 15 years.

Very minor seam clean up is required. I've also given it a good scrub with a wire brush to remove surface oxidisation, then a wash in soapy water.

Now it's primed with Tamiya aerosol fine white primer. I'll let this harden for a little while.

Cheers

Well done Lostagain!Toast  Which pic would you like for the front page?  Tony, better to ask forgiveness, than permission?  If you can pull it off, I think it will be the first figure ever for the Weekend GB.  Is it just me, or does your figure look a little like Montgomery? Go for it my friend.

How's it going Tony? I apologize if my asking permission comment was snarky, was aiming for tongue in cheek.  If you're still working would like to see pics.

All good Lewbud, I've only just seen your comment. I ended up with a much busier day than planned, of course. This is the next progress photo, although he has progressed further.

Since then I've tidied up the shadow areas, as this photo shows the original heavy and imprecise application of shadows,  and added emphasis where required. It still needs highlights, facial detail, detail painting etc. The webbing is painted.

I've left my phone upstairs, but dont want to wake my wife by getting it, so more later. I'll be busy until about 3pm today, but I'm comfortable enough at this stage.

It's the first figure that I can remember too. Previously I've done aircraft and a car that I can remember, but I may have forgotten some older ones.

It's 5am so more zzzzzz before I get back to this.

Cheers

Tony

THis is the photo that I couldn't post earlier. It is enlarged by the camera and photo display and hence shows brush strokes and imperfections that are not visible to the naked eye. I'll try to get a more realistic one for the next photo.

In the end I couldn't get back to this until 10.30pm tonight, so it was almost a lost day, then a mad scramble. It's just about done, I need to paint the badge on the beret and the shoulder indignia, and I think a flat coat would help.

I hope I can get that done before work tomorrow.

Hope you like it.

OK, I've made it with about 90 minutes to spare. After the late night last couple of niges, I was up very early this morning to finish it off.

So here it is, British Commando Officer, 1943. I'll work out what I'm doing with a base later on.

Well done Tony!Toast Which pic would you like for the front page?  I'll be taking my first shot this weekend.  Kit will be Hobby Boss's 1/72 F-5E Tiger.  Markings will be Patrouille Suisse, stolen from the Italeri kit.

I think the frontal pic will be fine Lewbud. I'd like to see that kit, as I have an interest in F-5s, but that is a complex scheme to achieve in a weekend. Good luck with it.

At this stage I can't confirm again for next weekend yet, but if I can I think I'll paint up a figure of a Chindit from the same series as the Commando.

The frontal pic it is.  The Patrouille Suisse scheme stripes are decals, so I'm hoping they fit.  The white cross on the red underside is comprised of decals.  I'm thinking of masking that area before I shoot the red.  Don't know how opaque the decals are.  If you can make it, look forward to your build this weekend.

I'm geared up and ready to go.  Will probably start late afternoon on Friday (to make it an official weekend kickoff).  Going with the PM Lippisch P.13a.  Will probably throw in a Ta-183 that I'm doing for the 1946 GB (which I'll start both at the same time).  Love doing these weekend ones!

Lewbud,

I need to change my entry to the 1/72 Trumpeter Sturmtiger. I was going to pull the Lee from the stash and couldn't find it. I had 5 other 1/72 armor kits I couldn't decide on one so my wife pulled the Sturmtiger from the hat.

I will likely start tomorrow afternoon.

For my 54mm Chindit, I've googled up some references, and bought some paint. I should be ready to roll this evening. Last weekend I didn't start until Saturday, which added some pressure, which I had to cover by missing some sleep to get it done. This weekend, the plan is to at least get it primed by bedtime Friday night, and let that dry over night before commencing painting and detailing on Saturday.

Cheers

Last update for the night. I've just given it a coat of Tamiya Fine White Primer in the garage. I found it very difficult to gouge out the shorts even with a motor tool, but there is some depression there, at least. Otherwise all the cleanup is done, the arm is superglued to the torso, and the seam filled with putty then wiped off whilst still moist. All of the oxidation on the surface has been removed with a wire brush.

More tomorrow. Good luck to everyone starting soon.

Cheers

Back to it this morning. I forgot to take a photo of it primed, so we'll have to skip that. Here it is with the uniform base coated with several shades of light khaki, mixed from an old old can of Humbrol HM7 Khaki Drill and 34 Matt White. The boots are (still wet) Tamiya dark grey in preparation for an eventual dusty, well used black. I'll proceed with base coating the primed areas then let it dry for a few hours.

Midday, Saturday update. I've finished the base coat. I'll let it dry for an hour or two whilst I get away from the bench for a while. I think I'm on schedule so far.

The next steps are to apply an oil paint wash of Raw Umber and Burnt Sienna to the flesh areas, and an acrylic wash of very dark brown to the uniform.

Cheers

Started a lot later than expected.  I was going to build the Hobby Boss F-5E Tiger by itself. But I noticed that the Italeri kit is very similar, so I'm going to try to build them both (in fact, I've read that the HB kit is a recessed panel knockoff of the Italeri, while there are similarities, they are two different kits.). The Italeri is the white plastic, the HB is the grey.

About an hour in, I've got a couple hunks of plastic that are beginning to look like aircraft.

Hey everyone!  Well, I got started last night around 8:15 PM.  Here are my first pics of the build.  As with all the PM kits, there is not much to it and the fit is, well, it's a PM kit.  Got the sub assemblies done and some pre-painting done.  Let dry and all last night and will do more today.  Will be painting the camo by tonight.  Enjoy!

Looking good Eagle!

A little over 14 hours into the build, and I've got an airplane looking thingy almost ready for paint.  First, a view of the pits.  Both are very basic and sit deep within the fuselage.

The Italeri cockpit:

The tub for the Italeri kit has better detail, including a throttle quadrant.  The instructions say there are decals for the pit, I couldn't find them.  The ejection seat is a two piece affair that is split down the middle. The instrument panel is an earlier type, but at least it has rudder pedals.  Some pics.

The Hobby Boss pit.

I was able to use the decals on the HB pit. Shaved the consoles smooth, then applied the decals.  I wish I had done that with the instrument panel, I couldn't get them to snuggle down, and ended up painting the panel flat black.  The ejection seat is a three piece affair, but doesn't look like any I've ever seen.  A pic.

Now for a pic of the Italeri.  Just need to do some sanding and she's ready for primer.

Just got to mask the canopy and she'll be ready for paint.

BRave effort t otake on that kit in a weekend, Eagle, I hope its going well and you're enjoying the challenge.

Lewbud, your comparison is an ongoing reference for me as I have a 'project' planned to build 4 more F-5s perhaps next year. Great effort so far.

I put in the hard yards on mine last night, with another late one, so it's mostly done with just a bit more work to go.

I’m done with the Sturmtiger. This was nice little kit that didn’t need too much work. I added the zimmerit using Mr. dissolved putty but other than that I didn’t do anything else.
I was done at 9:29, 27 ½ hours after I started.
Thanks for another fun one Lewbub.
Ok, here are some better pics.

Hey everyone, Wow!  Some great work being done!  And in a short period of time!  Great work! Next installment of pics.  Man what happened to Photobucket!  It's taking FOREVER to do anything on there and it drags my computer down to a crawl!

Assembly is done except for canopy and then it's time to paint.  Here is what she looks like now.

And here are some freebies for you.  I'm doing a Ta-183 for the 1946 GB.  Actually found another 183 I had started a long time ago!  So going to throw that one in too.  With a different scheme of course.

I've got until 8 tonight to finish her up, so stay tuned.

Scottrc, welcome aboard sir!Toast  Front page is updated.

Pyrman, no oopsing!  You've been teasing me with that Crown Vic for the last couple of years!

Tony, your word is good enough for me.  Congratulations on build #2.  Which pic would you like for the front page?  Did they happen to make the other guy in the picture?

Steve, nice work on the Sturmtiger!  Which pic would you like for the front page?  Post a link to the video when it's ready.

Eagle, nice work, keep it up!

Now for my adventures.  The Italeri is going swimmingly. Her canopy is masked, and she is covered in a really smooth coat of Tamiya gloss white paint.

Her gear bays are painted.

In fact, about the only things not painted on the Italeri are the burner cans and tires (wheels are drying as I type this).  Now for the Hobby Boss.  To avoid being an exact copy of the Italeri only with recessed panel lines, they changed the parts breakdown somewhat.  One of these ways was by molding the wings separately.  While the fuselage halves go together well, the wings, not so much there was a big gap between the fuselage and lrx. So now I am waiting for it to cure so it can be sanded.  Both kits have problems with the fit of air intakes, the Hobby Boss more so.  I've got all of the ECM bumps on the HB.  Just need to mask the canopy and sand the putty smooth and she'll be ready for paint.  A pic of the Hobby Boss.

In moving things around, I made my first offering to the carpet monster. Somehow I lost the small nose gear bay door from the Italeri kit. Now off to the local shop for some paint and then some sustenance.

Great collection Eagle, that will be a grand achievement in a single weekend. Lewbud, nice work on the F-5s. Looking forward to these. Please use the frontal picture for mine. I just checked the Andrea Miniatures website, they didn't do any other Chindit figures, which is a shame, because that would have been a nice way to display them. Cheers Tony

So here she is painted, and all I have left to do is put the decals on and set her on the trolly.  Should be done by 8.

O.K, They finally loaded to Photobucket.  Wow.  Gotta find a new place to put pics!

Anyway, Here she is!  The lighting in my house makes the pics look odd to me.  I have all LED lights, maybe thats what it is.  The trolly was a quick build too.  All very simple, but the painting was the fun part.  Like I said, the colors are a bit too close, but I think it works.  It's a night fighter, yeah, that's it, a night fighter.  LOL!  Wink

It will look great next to the other What if planes I have from PM.  Thanks again lewbud for hosting the Weekend GB!  Have a blast!  And everyone did an awesome job.  Really enjoyed watching the other builds!

Well done Eagle!  Which pic would you like for the Wall of Fame?

Finished the Italeri kit with about 15 minutes to spare.  Time management is what normally gets me in this build, and it almost got me this time. But, I managed to persevere and get at least one finished.  The Tiger Meet scheme seemed to be fairly easy, but ended taking almost five hours nonstop to get done.  The decals are thin and grabby.  Once you put them on the model, they stay put and don't like to slide. I cut the longer decals into several pieces, but I am still not happy with the way they came out. Here are the pics.

Finally yellow.

Topside decals done.

Bottom's done.

Gear is done.

Sitting on her wheels.

Will keep working on the Hobby Boss. Will post pics when done.

Lewbud,

The tiger looks excellent, a great effort getting all the gloss layers to dry and all the decals on in a 48 hour period. The scheme is very attractive.

Tony,

Nice work on the figures. What scale does 54mm translate to ? Between the weekend and SoD GBs your stash must be disappearing rapidly!

MC,

really good finish on the Sturmtiger. I like the level of weathering. If it only took 28 hours, the Trumpeter kit must have gone together well.

Eagle,

The Lippisch looks very neat. It also looks tiny. How well did the PM kits go together? The Lippisch reminds me of the 'Family Guy' Star Wars spoof, Something  Something Something Dark Side - "Join the Empire, our ships are big triangles"

Hey Lostagain, The PM kits are VERY basic!  No cockpit detail at all.  No wheel well (if the aircraft has one) detail at all.  The fit is o.k. at best.  But they are fun subjects to do.  I have actually seen these kits sell for $15!!!!  Honestly, I paid $2 a piece when I got them all from a Squadron sale a long time ago.  And I would NOT pay any more then that for them.  LOL!  I guess it's because they are the only subject matter?   Maybe?  Either way, they are fun to put together.  Doesn't take long at all to do that.  Coming up with 'what if" camo schemes is part of the fun too.  LOL!  I thought the same about the plane!  It is a tiny little thing...can fit in the palm of your hand....with room to spare.  Kinda leans towards our DynaSoar aircraft too.

Great work on that PM kit Eagle, it's come up very well from it's basic origins.

That's a pretty F-5 Lewbud, I tried to do two Spitfires in one weekend last year for this GB, took me about a month to get over it. I've been contemplating whether to propose a Tiger Meet GB for next year. Any interest ?

Thanks for the compliment LostAgain. 54mm translates to 1/32. As I tend to like doing the older historical figures, pre 20th century, 54mm is more prevalent that 1/35, but I want to keep to a uniform scale even when doing more modern figures.

Cheers Tony

Thanks Taxtp.  It is a very basic kit, but it gives the opportunity to work on detailing technques.  LOL!  Thanks.

Kudos in the F5 Lewbud.  That was quite a paint and decal job for just 48 hours.

Pyrman, no oopsing!  You've been teasing me with that Crown Vic for the last couple of years!

Alrighty then!  Add me with the Lindberg 1/25 Ford Crown Vic SSP.  I have an open schedule this weekend. Stick out tongue

I'm here.  I will start sometime Friday evening.  Was in the hospital last weekend so I missed out.  Great work thus far fellows and I look forward to some more!  So, barring any unforseen misfortunes with photobucket I will post some pics shortly.

Good Luck everyone!

Well, I had the kit out and ready to go, but just not feeling the MiG at the moment.  Maybe next weekend.  Have to switch it up for this one.  I figure with a Ford SSP being built, why not build something for it to chase?  So, this weekend build will now be

Start time will be 1:30 AM Saturday.  Will post some progress pics in the morning.

I am getting off to a very late start.  I have a number of family things going on right now, but I also feel I need a break to do a quick build.  Here is my kit and the time I am starting. In reality, I have maybe 24 hours to work on it.

One task at hand is to drill out the dive breaks.  About the only "detailing" I plan to do.

Well, 13 hours to go and I should finish easily.  Photobucket is not working at all so I can't post pics right now.  Need to find a better way.  Will update when I can.

Here are some pics from earlier today.  I seem to pick the worse kits in my stash build.  I didn't know this was more of a dime store toy than a model.  It had nothing for details and what it did have were just blobs of plastic.  No alignment pins and the fit was non-existant. So I built it as basic as you can get. Of coarse I didn't realize how poor this kit after spending two hours drillling out the 700 some holes in the dive brakes.   Here is the model after prime and putting on the Intermediate Blue.

Now comes the dark sea blue.  I did the tri color since this was suppose to be an SBD-5. The kit was also minus decals so I got some from my stash.

It is now 9pm and I am offically done.  Not the best job, then again, I want to keep my sanity, and I had fun building a kit designed for an 8 year, like an 8 year old.

Good effort Scott. That's far better than condemning that kit to landfill. I thought it was brave of you to take it on in the first place. I think "recent, but simple" is a decent way to select a kit for this.

Lewbud, I may be in the running for a third attempt, but it could be a mid week 'weekend'. I'll let you know if I can get my head around it.

Cheers

Thanks lewbud.  I will likely fire it up this weekend with a 1/72 Revell Cromwell MK. IV.  Haven't done a speed build for awhile so want to keep it simple.  I will probably start late friday night.

Looking good Razor, keep it up!  Got a rather late start on mine.  Picked the venerable Monogram  1/72 F8F Bearcat.  Markings will be of an aircraft stationed at Naval Ordinance Test Station Inyokern (China Lake) CA in 1950.  This aircraft was used in testing the 5 inch HVAR rocket.  Paint scheme will be overall glossy Sea Blue with Chrome Yellow wings with glossy Sea Blue ailerons and tips.  Markings by Starfighter Decals. Will post pics when pic worthy.

Nice vintage kit lewud.  Yes

Despite a little more running around today than I expected I still got lots done.  A little after midnight here and I have most of it assembled and painted.  Just the link and length track and fenders to go and then decals and weathering.  Here's a quick phone camera shot of where I am at.  Colors are way off from the fluorescent lighting.

Thought I'd do an update since I'm past the halfway point.  With twenty-one hours to go, I have something that looks like an airplane.  I'd love to say that I've been slaving away for the past twenty-seven hours, by I haven't.  I've gone to the local shop to pickup supplies, came home worked a bit, watched a movie while paint dried, wrapped presents for my club's Christmas gift exchange, went to the party, came home took a brief nap, and got to the point I'm at now. The list of Saturday's events is why I chose this kit, I knew I could lose 4-6 hours and still have a good shot at finishing in time. Now for some pics.

The cockpit is installed.

We now have something that looks like an airplane.  There's a nasty seam under all that putty. I'm hoping that when I wake up, it will be ready to sand.

First color shot.  Wheels and landing gear are now glossy Sea Blue.  The color for the wings will be yellow.  I know the gear was usually painted the same as the underside, but I want something to break up all that yellow.

That's all for now, see y'all in the morning

The Gromwell like great Razor!  Congratulations! Which pic would you like for the Wall of Fame?  For me, the Bearcat didn't make it.  There were no construction problems, just paint problems.  I'll used to working with flats, I forgot that gloss paints take a loooooong time to dry.  It took  eight hours for the top of the wings to be dry to the touch.  Shot the secondcoat for the top of the wings about 2:30 and that's where was until about 10:45 when I was finally able to flip her over and start on the bottom.  Had to throw the gear doors in the purple lake.  Should have her done by the end of the week.  Unless anyone has any objections, next weekend will be the last weekend.

I'm calling it completed.  I'll probably be replacing the front axle as it was bent in the process of putting n the second wheel.  I'll aslo replace the clear window part as I tried a product called "NITE-SHADE" from VHT and it didn't turn out as I hoped. The Cleveland PD decals are from Pursuit Plastics and the POLICE decals are from Chimneyville. It's definitely not my best work but for a 48-hr build, it's tolerable.
