I have been working through a vac form all year and to complete a model in 48 hours will be a relief.

Nice one Lewbud. Mark me in for another Airfix 1/72 Spitfire. Continues the theme from last year for me. I'll work out which marque later on.

I'm happy to do it on the 19th if there is demand for it, as I often enter multiple times and December gets very busy.

Oh, man. I was hoping you were going to say it started Nov. 4, since the lady is out of town this weekend, and I've got a Tamiya Mustang Mk.III that's itching for a reason to be built. After this weekend things get pretty well booked up through the end of the year for me.

I'm in again this year with..

I just need to come up the date, one that the wife agrees with (She still bothers me with a to do list, but an least I have a excuse when she agrees on a date)

Oh, man, I think planning will be key to this one, so I made myself a to-do list with estimated times, and it's going to be tight, at best.

Since this is the time change weekend and I don't want to cheat, I'll make sure I take that into account on the ending time.

Today I got out most things I think I'll need.

I'm hoping to duck out of work an hour early tomorrow and kick this thing off around 4:30.

Fortunately, the scheme I'm building doesn't seem to have weathered all that much. Mostly just some scratches around the wing root, which will save me a lot of time.

Wish me luck - I think I'm going to need it.

That Tamiya Mk III 'Stang is one of my favourite kits Brandon, it just goes together beautifully. Good luck with it.

I'm half tempted to have a crack at one this weekend too....I just don't have a reason to justify it other than enthusiasm.

Grr, Photobucket is down for maintenance. Well, I kicked this thing off at 4:01 p.m. today, Nov. 4. I'll post the pic once Photobucket comes back online.

Anyway, I shot the primer for the first wave of painting while the parts were on the sprue and moved directly into the first base coats (Testors Yellow Zinc Chromate for the wheel wells, Model Master Interior Green for the cockpit and Mr. Paint Duraluminum for flap interior parts, gear doors and legs, and wheels). Since I primed with Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black, I just didn't paint parts like the instrument panel, radio and fuel tank, since they were already black.

At this point I have the cockpit and wheel wells detail-painted, and they have a Flory Dark Dirt wash on them. Once I scrub that and drybrush them, it's time to glue the fuselage halves together, (wings are already together).

Then I can eat! (Which is actually ahead of the schedule I set for myself, so hopefully I don't run into a lot of seam work to do - I should't with this kit - and I will finish by Sunday at 3 p.m. Pacific time).

Ok, end of day one.

I realized that clock didn't show the date, but just said "Today,) which is totally useless, so I started using the lock screen.

In the above pic, I had just finished up portions of thecockpit detail painting and they were awaiting a wash.

Just before closing the fuselage. Not quite 7 p.m.

And here I have the fuselage closed.

It needed some help being held shut at the top, and then I started masking the canopy. Off and on, when I was waiting for things to dry, I painted the wheels and propeller blade tips and that sort of thing.

One last look at the cockpit before I closed it up for good (Tamiya doesn't really provide a way to have the Malcolm hood open with this kit, and I'm totally OK with that this time. You can saw off the front piece, as there is a spare one of those, but you'd have to be pretty careful with the Malcolm hood itself, and I just didn't feel like doing that.

Here there was still a seam along the spine that needed attention. Right after this shot, I layed down some Mr. Dissolved Putty and then took the dog on a long walk because she was giving me that look.

Once we were back, I sanded the seam, re-shot the primer, and since it looked good, I went ahead and sprayed the stripes on the wings and horizontal stabilizers. Tamiya doesn't show these in the color scheme, but the pics I have of this plane definitely show these stripes or invasion stripes, so I figured I should add them.

First order of business for tomorrow is masking the stripes, then spraying the Sky fuselage band. That can cure while I do a run, and then I can mask it and get to work on the main colors.

Tomorrow is my dad's birthday, I basically realized that if I don't get this thing ready for a clear coat before I head over to my parents' place in the late afternoon, it isn't going to make the deadline of 3 p.m. Sunday (I have to pick up my girlfriend between noon and 2 on Sunday.

But at the end of day one, I'm cautiously optimistic.

How's it going Brandon?

Well, today was a rush. Meant to post sooner, but got stuck in traffic coming home from my parents' house. Normally a 15-minute drive turned into an hour.

When I woke up, I masked the white stripes, then sprayed the Sky band and went for my run.

Once back from that, I masked the Sky band and shot the Medium Sea Gray underside, then went grabbed a coffee and took the dog for a walk while it cured.

Directly after that, I masked the demarcation line, then went into the garage fora marathon session to paint the rest of the plane. I ran into a time-killing "problem" that turned out to be my not realizing I had my air compressor turned off. I'd thought my airbrush was clogged and couldn't figure it out. 

Anyway, I got the paint done, then shot it with a clear coat and left at 3 p.m. to head to my parents' place for my dad's birthday.

Once I got home, I went straight to decals. Unfortunately, the yellow leading edge line decals disintegrated, so I will have to spray them tomorrow, which should be doable in the time limit, barely. I do have to finish by 3 p.m., but will likely be pulled away between noon and 2, so noon is my real deadline.

Anyway, I got the second gloss coat on tonight, and it's ready for a morning panel line wash, then flat clear, then those lines. And then some light weathering and attaching of the gear and fiddly bits, and it should be done. Here's to hoping I don't mess up the roundels with the tape I'll need to use to mask the yellow lines.

I think the white on the nose looks funky here because of the angle. Hopefully that's not another thing I need to fix, but I don't think it is.

It's coming together really well for a weekend build Brandon, hope you can get that yellow sprayed and knock it over in the morning. The camo looks really good.

I finished!

Not as weathered as I generally like, but my pics of this plane show it to be surprisingly clean, maybe because it was thesquadron leader's aircraft. Anyway, that's one of the reasons I chose it.

Girlfriend ctually came home early, so I was a bit rushed, but I did finish in time for the armorer to hang the bombs from the pylons with care, in hopes they'd find a V-1 site, and destroy it from the air... (In keeping with the wonderful time of the year bit).

Well, that was an absolute blast. Thanks for letting me run this weekend, Lebud, and I can't wait to see what the rest of you pull off in the weekends to come!
