Multi Prop GB 17 March to May '17
Posted by Theuns on Thursday, January 5, 2017 9:02 AM

I sugest a GB with the theme of aircraft that has two or more propellers.

They can be driven by one of more engines each, being either piston or turboprop.

Any scale.

Kits of 25% or less "started"

WIP pix please

Fixed wing or multi rotor helos allowed.

No pure jet engines allowed

Date 01-Mar-17 to 31-May-17 (3 full months)

Ideas for a GB badge welcome

I have a few prop planes in my stash.  A P61, C-130 "Fat Albert", a C-54 and a B-17.  I think I have enough options to pick from and join in the GB.Big Smile

My AC 47 is way too far along to qualify, but I have the old 1/48 Testor's O2 to toss into the game.

Is that the 1/48 O-2? I heard it is actually a really nice kit.

Yes.  Have looked it over, can be built as an O2A or O2B.  The A has more windows on the lower right fuselage.  The B is more visually like the civilian version.  Have always loved the old mixmaster.  Hoping the Roden 1/32 comes out sometime soon, was supposed to be out around October.

Hmm, I'll take a look but I'm pretty booked right now.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hey Theuns,

Sounds good - count me in with this 1/72 Airfix Bristol Blenheim Mk. I.

Hopefully I can finish her up in the 3-month window.

Great lewbud I got you up.

I propose something like this for a badge -

If someone more clever than I am can insert a GB name in the pic....

Or even this one if you could put a name in it....I recon the Bear was the ultimate propeller plane :-)

I am slightly biass to the Shaccleton in my first pic but the Bear might appeal to a bigger group :-)

Of your pix I like the second one of the "homebuilt" the most.

Put me down with a 1/72 C-130J by testors. This one should be pretty easy to complete.....I think.

Big SmileOh Yea, my favorite plane!  I have "Fat Albert" and the AC-130H Spectre in the stash.  I'm guessing that even though it's boxed by Testors it says Italeri somewhere.  I've done 3 Italeri C-130's and they've all built up really nicely.

Cool, got you on the roster for a "See One Thirsty" ;-)

As an ex Loadmaster in The SAAF I have a soft spot for a 130, but out of a practical standpoint the Transall 160 (except for the less power) was a far better cargo bush plane. Easier to load, no large wheelwells stricking out inside the bay and if you deploy the divebrakes a 160 could almost stand on it's nose @ 14000'/min decend!

I in a way grew up with the C-130's.  They've been flying in and out of the local air force base since 1971.  That is however coming to an end this year.Crying  At least one of the eight we had is already gone.  It seems they are slowly going to disapear and I will be none the wiser.  I thought they might give the community a chance to say farewell, but I guess not.

The modeling club in the next town over is moving it's meeting to the veterans home where I live.  Only about 3 miles from me insted of 20.   They will start there on March 2nd, just in time to start on this GB, so that is where most of the build will take place.  Added bonus, they are starting to get the Vietnam vets in now, so the era will fit right in.

So are we calling this one a go?  I've got an AC-130H Spectre I'm chomping at the bit to start, lol.
