I didn't check Scalemates. The last Italeri release showed it as a new kit, or at least there may have been a parts or decal change. Hmm I guess there's nothing new under the sun. I contacted Hobbyco and they may send me a new kit, or at least get the replacement tree from Italy.

Well thats some good news. Hopefully it will just have been a one off. If not Italeri may be busy.

Steve, holy smokes, I have read the Italeri Hurricane has some minor fits problems, but that goes well beyond that.  Going by this pic Mk I (Top) and IIc (Lower),

... it looks the box contents were a mix up and they put in the wing of the MkIIc?  How do the instructions look, can the mistake be spotted in the illustrations when compared to the actual parts?

As I understand it, the MkIIc had the larger Merlin XX engine, which required 7" extension in the nose.

regards,

Jack

Jack, thats what i was thinking. Given that the Mk I was first, then the Mk II, then back to a Mk I. Lets hope the whole Mk I Trop production line is not churning out the Mk II sprue.

Oops

That looks like that's what happened. I have a new sprue tree comming from Italy. I hope the correct one arives before the end of the GB :giggles:

Steve, that is good news.

I've posted your hiccup over at Britmodeller because I know a member there has studied the Hurricane inside and out.  Hopeful he replies soon, and I'll ask if the problem can be fixed with the existing parts.  I've doubts though, as I imagine surface detail on the wings will be different since the IIc was cannon armed.

Jack

Thanks Jack. There is some detail on the extended part of the wing. I could trim it back to make things fit but would rather do it right.

Troy over at Britimodeler has identified the wrong Hurricane wing as being MKIIA, which indeed had the larger engine, hence the ill fit Steve has.  The odd thing about it all is Italeri have yet to release the eight machine gun version of the MKII, and only have the cannon version so far.

Jack

DB:  good-looking Walrus

Thanks, Bish

Andy:  great assembly with the Hurricane

Gamera:  thanks; unfortunately I still lose a piece from time to time; still looking for a fool-proof system

Steve:  a severe case of too much plastic; glad it seems to be getting sorted out

BTW: I ordered these from Squadron's overstock blow-out sale for half price and got them today. Though it says SEAC on the box they're just RAF late war camo colours.

I've used a few of their armour line and really liked them so hopefully these will work out well.

I think so, I'd have to look at the box which I can't do now since I'm at work. The armour paints I've used worked quite well, add a few drops of thinner to the colour cup on your airbrush, squrt a little paint in, mix it up, and spray.

Cliff, nice set of paints there.

They are indeed from the Model Air line, and are actually their 2nd rendition.  There were complaints of both Luftwaffe and RAF  paint shades, so Vallejo has done some new formulations. The old set contained the numbers 71.0** and 71.1** while any new ones introduced are 71.2**,  71.3**, etc. series.

Jack

Thanks a bunch Jack!

Not having sprayed them yet I wasn't sure how accurate they are. The armour colours seem pretty spot on.

I have tried their Model Air German armour colours and was not to keen, i found them to thin for me straight out of the bottle. I do like the Model Colour paints for figures though.

PJ - thanks for the offer on the decals. Fortunately, Eduard was quick to respond, and they are tossing a new set into an order I was already making from their site for free. So once they get here, I'll be back in business.

Gotta love seeing a company take care of its customers in contrast to what Photobucket did.

I've also had great support from Roden and Special Hobby. Seems the Europeans know what's up.

Are puns considered British humour? I even spelt that "correctly" for this thread, I believe.

sMEH Walrus....so close. I did a sludge wash because it seemed quite fitting. No way was I going to spend more time trying to do a pin wash on all those little "rivet" holes. And one last insult by this evil, cursed kit. While I was removing masks from the "glass" I dropped the Walrus. The wheel did not survive the 2 inch fall...2 INCHES!!!! What a way to spend a Friday night!Bang HeadBang HeadBang HeadAngry

I did accomplish "scratching" the Vickers K gun...They don't excactly match but better than the "Buck Rodgers" looking ray gun supplied with the kit.

Dan-Good progress on the Lancaster.

Steve- Sorry about the mismatched wings. That sucks but hopefully you will get your correct parts.

Damo- Great looking SE5. I like those old WWI bipes a lot.

Rooster- Great gob on that Hurricane.

Beave-Sorry about the damage. I once dropped a almost completed 1/35 Hetzer with interior and had several parts come loose inside the hull. I ended up removing the front armor plate to make repairs to the interior. It sucks!

Apologies if I left anyone out.

I did some marbling on the Spit to get a weathered finish. Double click on the images for closeups.

The inside and outside of the flaps got some pre shading.

Shot the RAF Dark Green freehand

Then used the silly stuff for the demarcation lines for the next color.

The Ocean Grey is on. Notice the subtle tonal changes in the paint.

Tomorrow the bottom will get the Medium Sea Grey then the decals will follow.
