Russian Armor Group Build November 2017 - November 2018
Posted by ManCityFan on Monday, November 6, 2017 8:27 PM

Comrade, welcome to the Russian Armor Group Build.  This Group Build is intended to show off the many variants of Russian armor past and present.  The build is open to all armor produced in Russia, including exports.  Soviet armor is seen throughout the world, so if you want to work on a tank exported to the Middle East, that is fine.

Rules:

OOB or detailed like crazy, your choice.

Any scale welcome.  Come on, let's see some braille scale!

Crossovers are welcome.

In Progess in the construction phase is OK.

Works in progress pics are a must.  We want to see what you all are doing!

The group build officially starts November 7, 2017, and ends November 7, 2018.  You may join any time you like as long as the build is done by 11/7/18.

When joining, please let me know what manufacturer, scale, and subject you will be building.

I will maintain the roster, and a finished model post.

First Group Badge for modern armor builders:  Thanks Hunter for the pic!

Next Group Badge for WWII builds:

And one more for Cold War armor:  Thanks again to Hunter for the Pic!

Most important of all, have fun.

I'm in. 1/35 Tamiya T-55 in Ethiopian service during the 1998-2000 Eritrean Ethiopian war. Might not use the Trumpeter crew however. I'm looking at it and it's pretty shoddy. Thanks Mancity for starting this GB. It will be my first. I have to say I enjoy Premier League football and Man City's win against QPR a few years ago was probably the most incredible sporting event I have ever seen!

Yeah, the win over QPR was the greatest sporting event of my life.  Hurt myself celebrating Aguero's goal.  Have a special about that season on my DVR I plan to put on disc.  Have to watch it every once in a while.

Dwayne, if you're ok then with some construction work already done then I'd like to bridge the gap between Route62's T-34 and Griffon25's T-55.

Cliff,

Great looking kit friend. Like an idiot I passed this one up at a yard sale a few weeks ago for three other kits. I will be watching you with this one.

"Thanks Mancity for starting this GB. It will be my first."

Hey Griffin, you are welcome.  Honestly, I did this for totally selfish reasons.  Just finished a T-34 (and got my first badge), have plenty of Russian green paint, several Russian armor models, and wanted to do another one.  The T-34 was a lot of fun to build.  Figured if I started a GB, I would get the badge.

Plus, I really like watching armor builds.  Win, win, win.

Cool cool. I wish I could help with the badge but my computer graphic design skills are nil. I want to see someone build that Soviet tank with a bunch of turrets and about a block long. I don't know the designation or if any kit is even out there. That would be something to see!

Hey Dwayne,

Your really getting into the modeling *** with hosting a GB.  That is really cool.  I dont have any russian armor, in fact I only have built two tanks in the 40 years Ive been modeling.  However, I wanted to wish you the best on hosting this GB.

This particular Alanger kit is a maquette kit rebox.  Alanger is a russian company but reboxes many kits.

Thanks Scott.  Yup, this is becoming an obsession for me.  I spend a lot of time on this forum, youtube, and other forums getting ideas and new techniques to try out.  Hosting a GB just involves time with updating the thread, and since I live on the forum anyway, I thought, why not?  Thanks again for the support.

Please do.  What better reason to pull one of those kits out of the stash?  You know you want to.  Wink

Interesting.  I have an old maquette kit in my stash.  Instructions have no text, just pictures.  I think it is a T-38 with indy track links.  Gonna save that for when I have a little more experience.  Really interested to see how this kit comes together.

I have been working on a Revell Jeep Rubicon and was thinking about building one of my military jeeps. A very long time ago I won a Tamiya GAZ67B Russian Jeep on eBay that I never got around to building. It had been painted, but unbuilt when I got it and I stripped the paint off of the kit. I will pull it out to see if it is all there. If I get motivated, I also have a Zvezda BMD-1 kit that I finally got resin tracks for, but it is a more involved build than I want to start at this time.

Hey D, I'll throw in with a 1/72 Revell T-72.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hey Rob, I was just kidding.  If you find the right kit, the motivation, and have the time, we would love to have you in the GB.  I know what it is like to look at a kit, and think "not now".  The GB runs a year, so you can certainly jump in later.  Both kits you mentioned sound interesting.

Happy building,

D
