Well, with all I've been up to lately, like over the last 12 months, I've let this one slip to the back. Time to get the train rolling again. I need to dig through the stash and find something to build. I'm thinking an old Ford F-1 abandoned in a field.

I think this will make a great candidate. I have 3 of them in the stash.

Thanks Brandon. It will be a while before I build again due to my trembling hands. But hopefuly I will come up with some simple and effective dio for this one.

My second remnant, a Ford Mutt by Tamiya. One wheel is off the ground but that is OK, I will sometime build some sort of diorama and put it on it.

I think so too BK.  The grass mat I ordered is a late summer color so the winter camo will hopefully be a nice indicator that the plane has been sitting there awhile.  I also found some better pictures of the wreck.

From what I've been able to find out, the pilot was Oberleutnant Hans Gottried Schulz and was shot down on 10 February 1945 by Soviet flak.  He safely bailed out and was taken prisoner.  He eventually returned to Germany.  He flew 486 missions and had five victories.

I finally got all the old paint stripped off the exterior. 

I found an image of a plane that would be easy to paint the markings for, so I'm going to try to replicate how this aircraft might look if it were left there over the years.

OK I've finally got my bench cleared enough to get going on this project.  I've ordered a grass mat for the base.  Here's what I'm starting with:

Plus a few other bits in a baggy.  This is the old Revell boxing of the older Hasegawa kit (according to Scalemates).  I've started the process of stripping the paint and decals.  Let's see how this goes!

 

Oh, I'm totally looking forward to this.

Oops, I have totally and absolutely forgotten about this GB. So instead of the Mutt with which I signed up, I built this. It is Holt 75 by Roden in 1/35.

I am in, especially if its open ended!  I rarely build without a scene in mind...mainly due to lack of space...I just posted this over in the Dio section; I officially started the components last summer as a time waster at work when I had nothing going on, so I wont add it as an official group build-build, but as inspiration to think outside the kit box!

 

I have a few ideas in mind, so stay tuned!

 

Welcome aboard, Justin. This won't get too much action, but I kind of intended it that way. This is more of a place to throw out ideas and work on them as time fits. Feel free to come and go as you please.

BTW, I was informed yesterday that my AT-ST won third place in the Bandai's national Galactic Model Contest. I didn't win a trip to Anaheim, but I am geting a trophy and Bandai kit(s), don't know which ones though.

Oils, Burnt Sieanna mostly. All of the weathering, in fact, are oils.

Steve that AT-ST is sweet!  I love the rust effect you achieved, looks very realistic.  How did you do it?

I'm done with the walker. It was a fun kit, too bad I destroyed it 

Anyway, I plan on doing the Akagi wreck or the Prince of Wales wreck.

It also looks like I need to clean the dust off the frame a little. The dirt extending past the frame is intentional.

That sure looks old and forgotten. Very nice. This will look super cool.

The walker is almost complete. Just a little more dirt and touch-up. After adding the dirt, I hose it down with hairspray. The light colored dirt was added after the hairspray.

Here's some weathering on it.

Next I'll attach it to the base and start adding the dirt.
