Between the Wars GB
Posted by lostagain on Saturday, July 16, 2022 9:17 AM

G’day everyone, have you got a subject from between 1919 and 1939? A 1931 Alfa Romeo 8c 2300? A Sikorsky S-38? The Flying Scotsman? A Hotchkiss H35? An Arado AR 68? SS Leviathan?

Any subject, car, plane, tank, ship, train, zeppelin, glider, submarine or you name it. The subject as it was between 12 November 1918 and 2 September 1939.

Entries signed up and started between 1 August 2022 and 1 August 2023, finishing whenever you like…

Crossovers are not a problem, I am going to be doing a few. Part started is fine too.

Thanks everyone!

Ok Lost, I'll play your silly game. I think I have a Matchbox Mercedes SSK somewhere. It has been started, (I glued the two bits of the engine together). Is that acceptable?

Hey Ferg, great to have you on board, not a problem with that mate.

I do like the look of that Mercedes.

I do remember matchbox had an Auto Union racer that looked great too.

Hope your missus is going okay

Back in hospital mate. Had a fall and broke her leg. Now having major issues keeping food down, but the really bad news is the heating in my work room is busted and at the moment it's bloody frigid up there!

I'm sorry to hear that Ferg, she's been in my prayers. Hope she's feeling better and they get the darn heating repaired soon.

Piers: I think I'm good for this. I was thinking of starting FineMolds Type 89 I-Go Japanese tank next. Most to the tanks on the decal sheet are for vehicles fighting in China in 1937. So is this kosher? You did entitle this 'Between the Wars' but the Chinese Republic and Japanese Empire were at war in 1937. But it does fit the time scale though.

I'll join, but I hope you'll be forgiving on time frame? I have busy months ahead and this year's commitments. I'd like to do it next year perhaps. :)

I'm thinking a Bolivian tank of the Chaco War--a pretty consequential war in South America during the 30's and, indeed, one of the "forgotten wars," too! Interesting because the Bolivians had some German support, were better equipped, and had greater numbers; however, they still used WWI tactics and were less familiar with the terrain. The Paraguayans, on the other hand, had the support of some "White Russians", had more familiarity with the terrain, and felt more attached to the Chaco Boreal land for which they fought; however, they lacked equipment (some soldiers were barefoot and equipped with machetes) and they had inferior numbers. On paper, the Bolivians should have won, but Paraguay took the victory.

PS- Just to let you know, the GB badges don't seem to be coming through on my end, by the way.

Hi Ferg, that doesn't sound great, thinking of the two of you and hoping for a good result soon.

Hey Cliff, that fits into the date and intent of the GB, so looking forward to having you on board as always.

KJV, that is a great subject from a little known conflict, be great to have it in the mix. No problem if you are not building until next year, as long as you are started before 1 August 2023. Just let me know the kit and scale and I will get you on the roster.

Thanks for the heads up on the badges, I'll try change some settings later to see if it helps.

Badges are wierd; I can see them on the phone, but not on the laptop. My brain hurts.

I have refreshed them, and can now see them on my laptop can you let me know if that works.

Piers-please put me down for the Revell 1/48 Spirit of St. Louis.  Assuming that I can get an early start/finish, I'll try to add something else.

Thanks

Hi,

I just recently picked up a 1/144 Handley Page HP.42 "Heracles" that I think I might want to try and do for this group build, if that's OK.

Bob, that Spirit of St Louis is a nice kit, great to have you on board.

Pat, the Heracles looks fantastic, can't wait to see how it comes together.

I see the badges are coming through now; I like the second one! :)

Thanks for the welcome! It's gonna be one of these two tanks (both 1/35, Mirage Hobby models):

I found a kit at the LHS the other day that suits this, I am in with a Hobby Boss 1/35 Soviet T-35 Heavy Tank (the Before 1938 kit)

Nice, another pre-war armor buddy! What's the history on the T-35?

Nice, another pre-war armor buddy! What's the history on the T-35?

From my cliffnotes research, it was apparently a rather unsuccessful attempt at making a 5 turreted heavy tank.  I don't think they made very many, so all were consolidated to a unit or two in the Ukraine area where they all basically broke down or were destroyed early on during the Barbarossa invasion.

This think looks like it will be a monster of a kit, looking forward to it.

That thing is cool! It's like a land battleship! The T-35 would have been interesting to see in combat had it worked better...

This GB is starting a month too late!  Here's a yellow wing I'm working on now, but I have an AM SBD-1 I can do for this GB.
