Tweety, Sorry to hear about the dust, but I wouldn't worry about it because I'm sure nobody but you will even know they are there.

Cheers

Thats the problem Darren, I KNOW it's there.
Drives me bl**dy mental everytime I see dust flecks on my models, and I know there is nothing I can do 'cause of where I am, but it doesn't put my mind at ease.
Sigh [sigh]
I need some councilling.

Oh, I tried some Pledge on one of the panels I painted with the Alclad 2 White Aluminium, and it altered the finish by something like a poofteenth of a shade.

Just thought I'd try it out for giggles sake, a bit of aded protection for the BMF.
Will do the whole plane after I'm done painting the tail etc.

Tweets sounds like you need a kitty pic mateMischief [:-,]

Jules, How’s the Spit going? I need a progress update, because I am pacing myself against you (you're giving me incentive to keep moving).

My progress is not much as I have been letting the Future cure for a few days. Tonight I plan on masking the canopy and maybe doing some decals.

Cheers

Sounds like your making good progress on the Sabre TweetyThumbs Up [tup]
iknow what you mean about the dust situation, even here in Bris it can get a little dusty, and wet paint on a model seems to act as a dust magnet..............

Oh yeah, Sabre progress.

Well, laid down the Alclad2 white Aluminium tonight.
Doesn't look to bad, aside from it showing up EVERY spec of dust in the houseBanged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

Biggest problem living here, no matter what you do, the dust bowl that is Alice Springs will always show.
The panel beaters here use professional spray booths, and even they get dust specs on cars.

No point rubbing back and going again, tried it once before to no availSigh [sigh]

Ah well, will continue on, tommorrow night is masking and tail painting time, looking forward to that!

The pick in my sig is an XM2001 Crusader. A prototype field artillery tank, that was scrapped from the production line because of costing etc.

Much thanks to the Armour lads for that one.

I have some good colour reference shots of Aussie Cents taken at Pucka during their final parade before retirement. All up there are 8 shots taken from front and back that total about 650k. If anybody wants a copy send me an email address and I will email them to you.

Bugger, my A-20 hit a snag today. I went to Snowy Mountains and they didn't have the A-20 wheels Boohoo [BH] Then again I managed to escape spending only a fraction of what I was intending to. Smile [:)]

The Mosquito is now wearing it's propellers and I just have to figure out how much i'm going to weather it (if any). But I did buy the CMK Mosquito exterior today which seems quite good. So my PRXVI should be good when I add the updated cockpit and engines as well as the flaps etc from the exterior set. I might have to make that after I finish this Mosquito, the A-20 the TA152 and FW190D-9 that are currently in progress.

Mike,

Couldn't agree with you more and it's fine by me. I see a lot of American flags displayed by US modelers on FSM and thought it was time we displayed ours.

I tried to email the flag, but the little email client on the forum won't take attachments. You can save it off easy enough by opening the link in the post above.

Spitfire Progress
I Futured the canopy night before last and will now put that aside for a few days to cure properly. Tonight I clear coated the airframe with a couple of coats of Future in prep for the decals and a light wash. I think I will wait until the weekend before I attempt anything else so it can cure as well.

I have just realised that the canopy is now going to be a real treat to paint. Because I have left it till last I will have to try and replicate the entire weathering process that I did on the airframe so that the colours match Banged Head [banghead] Boohoo [BH] Censored [censored]

Mental note to self: Next time paint canopy at same time as aircraft Angry [:(!]

Darren, the kit is the AMT version. It is not too bad a kit though it's a bit basic in some areas eg the gun turret. Other than that the only pain was the undercarriage as it can be very delicate and is also 2mm to far back from what I understand. I have ordered the Italeri A20G as I have decided that the first try was not good enough. I might try a bit more weathering and doing a colour scheme as per Gary Byks book on the A20.

Darren,

I use a wide variety of different paints for the aircraft. I use mainly Humbrol but also use Testors and Pollyscale depending on what is needed. Pollyscale make a number of good colours for Aust acft so I use those a great deal on some my other Aust acft eg my A-20C.

For the Mosquito I used Humbrol 149 with Hu 195 for the spinners as they are both good for foilage green. The interior is Hu 2 though there is a bit of disagreement about whether it should be Aust interior green or brit interior green (hu78).

The A-20 I used Humbrol 155 OD with Hu 149 for the green edging. The grey is Hu156 I think. I used Testors Interior green for the interior.

They both received a wash of thinned matt black for panel lines.

I hope that answers your question. Smile [:)]

Thanks Dave, that's exactly what I was after. I am always curious about what techniques, paints, etc other modelers use when they achieve a great looking result.

Also, can you tell me what did you think of the A-20G kit and was it the AMT or Italeri boxing?

Cheers

Then a fine masking of tape trimmed to suit, and spraying some red in between would give it the colour depth you need.

It's not that the decals dont line up, it's just that the fuselage halves were so outta wack, the kit decal isn't long enough anymore.
Either way, I'll spray my Sabre in the Marksmen scheme for this GB, the yellow and black tail looks like a challenge for my masking skillsWink [;)]

The Marksmen scheme on the tail looks like it would be a challenge for anyone's masking skills........"HAVE FUN"..........Tongue [:P]
As far as the 76SQD scheme goes i'm still undecided, i'd rather use the decal but then i have to match the colour of the Fueselage band exactly with the tail band..."MORE FUN"

Progress on the Spit: I masked off the wing leading edge's last night but after that i couldn't be buggered mixing paint so i'll paint em tonight, then i'll post a pic,it'll be all horrible and glossy ready for some decalsWink [;)]................Jules...............
