The pics aren't great, but the pit looks good Arki. Definitely time to upgrade the ol' digi cam.

wing_nut, yardbird78, paknick-40, kingthad, rjkplasticmod, thanks for the good comments. Camera's a 1.5 mp with no zoom....it just doesn't cut it for that close in work.

wing_nut, good suggestion with pulling back. If I still have this camera later, I'll try that and just accept the smaller detail. Cockpit is now fully assembled and ready to install into fuselage, so it'll have to be a different project I try that on.

PakNick-40, you know for the life of me I can't quite remember where I got them from as I've had the PE for awhile. I think it was Squadron.com. Eduard sells single PE frets for USN and Army Air Force aircraft so you get about 4 or 5 seatbelts on one fret which is really nice.

Once again, thanks for the comments and I'll post more as the build progresses.

arki What I can see of your cockpit looks nice mate. Thumbs Up [tup]

My build is coming along slowly still. I might get a coat of primer on it soon. Then I'll find all the bits that need more attention and I can start painting it.

Gary and Joe, your Tomahawks are coming on very nicely! Gary, I forgot what year Monogram came out with their kit, but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Arki, your cockpit looks great from what I can tell. AMtech's cockpit isn't bad OOB, but I've always had trouble painting the Instrument Panel. How did you do yours?

I primed my Eduard P-40N last Monday with Mr. Surfacer 1000. Unfortunately, I still had a pretty bad seam where the fuselage insert behind the cockpit goes. There're no lines there on the real plane, so I've spent what little time I've had this week after work and family fixing it.

Mark, you're right about the instrument panel on the AMtech. Decent amount of detail but it's not really raised all that much. I used Prismacolor pencils to highlight the gauges and switches, then shot a flat coat over it. I have much better luck with that technique than trying to dry brush everything.

Just a couple of progress pics...not sure of the quality and clarity.

1/48 Revell-o-Gram P40B. This is my first attempt at making my own seat belts. The seat was modified using thin stainless steel wire to better represent the real aircraft. I was going to box in the pit but I have lost my contour guage...no way I would be trying to freehand that bit of work.

As always, critique is welcome...

Sorry Joe, but your Pics are so pixelated that all detail is lost. If you are using your digital Zoom to get closer, don't. Only use the actual lens Zoom without using the digital feature. All it does is digitally crop the image going to the sensor & cause excessive pixelation.

Got a coat of primer on my P-40N yesterday. There were a few spots that needed a bit more attention so I'll patch them up, give it another coat of primer and then start spraying colours. I'll start with the white areas hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

Joe Like the others said, the pics are too blurry to really see your work. Try setting the camera to macro mode and don't use any zoom at all. My camera seems to have trouble focussing if you zoom in while in macro mode. Hope to see some better pics soon.

My P 40m is now finished, this was the older Mauve kit built OOB with mix and match decals and codes from the spares box.
Humbrol Authentic Neutral Grey is the under surface colour, the upper Olive Drab is Humbrol # 155, The white on the tailplane is from the Boyd range of paints and is White Primer, the blue is Humbrol # 14.
Earth tone pastels have been used, on the Olive Drab and the tailplanes, to tone them down just a tad, as well as for the muzzle flash, exhausts and cordite stains.

Rob, Very nice build.

Joe, most P&S type digital cameras will have a zoom lens with some range of mechanical zoom, but then goes into a digital zoom beyond that. The digital zoom feature is pretty much useless on most cameras & gives the type of pixelation seen in your pics.

Rob, very nice. I especially liked your weathering on white, always find that a bit difficult to look just right.

Looks great Rob. After the north African schemes, the Kiwi P-40's are my most very favorite! Good job.

Alrighty, the GB page on the website is updated... although the duty roster is not. That will happen soon though...

We have six finished builds so far, I believe, and one or two others which seem to be close.

I've yet to read through all the posts I've missed in detail, but I just wanted to say that there's some nice work going on here. I like the look of the Hasegawa 48th kits the more I see them built, especially the P-40E.

I'm gonna dust off the bench and get crackin' now...

Got my white sprayed last night. Looks alright with a drop of grey added to give it a better scale appearance. I'll mask the parts that need to stay white soon and give the under side a coat of grey. Keeping up Mark???Wink [;)]

Nick - Have a read of this page. It'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about US interior colours during WW2.

Thanks Folk's,

For the kind words on the P 40m, it is OOB in construction.

I have several other P 40's [of various brands and types], but another 76 Sqn RAAF P 40n is planned, but instead of the white tailplane it has a yellow lightning bolt across the rudder.

Rob-That should look very striking... can't wait to see it.

Steve- web site looks good... great to see all the great builds in one place at one time.

Is there an "official" end date fo rthis GB. I think I what to build another one. I keep thinking about the Cox .049 U-Control all pastic P-40 I had as a kid... flying in circles in the street... watching it hang from the power lines since your not supposed to do that in the streetSad [:(]

Progress report: Fuselage, wings, elevators, quisanart, it's all together. However, I have joint gaps that rival the Marianas Trench Sad [:(]. This is the second time I've built this AMtech P-40 and the first time around had some gap issues but nothing like this.

Oh well, break out the putty, acetone, cotton swabs and jump in. This is going to slow me down though.

On a general note, I jump around the group builds quite a bit just seeing what's happening and I have to say this is one of the better builds in terms of participation, quantity and quality of posted work. Very cool.

Yes, sprayed my white yesterdayWink [;)]. First time I've used Floquil Reefer White, and it definitely lived up to its reputation in regards to excellent coverage. Too good, in fact, and I think I lost my preshading. I might add a drop of grey like you did Daniel, and mist it on in spots. I still plan on a wash and some pastels at the end of the build to weather it more.

I'll be masking the white and spraying the Neutral Grey this weekend (hopefully!), then the OD the following weekend. I usually do major painting on the weekends because of work, etc.

I'm one step ahead of you then Mark. I masked off the white yesterday and sprayed the neutral grey on the bottom. I'll mask it off soon and spray some foliage green on the fuselage sides then mask it off and spray some olive drab. I might do a bit of post-shading and then the decals.
