i would add another vehicle in that format. id also think about bringing the dio closer together. spreading things out, while technically mroe realistic, actually hurts the dio in the long run. people's attention is drawn away by different things, and it can become hard to understand whats going on. so try to pull the dio in closer. id also think about ditching the hedgrows on the side opposite the one the tanks on. it has a tendency to block peoples view, and in the end its a lot of dead space to fill.

my two sense...

Making the road narrower and knocking off some of that space in the back is a deffinite possibility. Probably will do that. Hedgerows will stay no matter what, I eliminated the ones on the other side for viewing. The hedgerow is a very important aspect in the dio.

I want people to be drawn away from everything, the theme is almost more than one.

I will deffinetly think this over before I begin construction. I think Im going to go with the AFV club 251 d to fill up the space.

id definitely keep the hedgerows at least on the side the tanks on, yeah. i guess what i meant is that you dont want people to miss things. theres certain visual paths that the eye tends to follow, like lines. for instance, moving from left to right (since this is how most of us read, and thus look at the world if you think about it ) you can use things like the tank turret, figures pointing, tree branches, and even the gaze of a figure to help move peoples eyes across the diorama, so that they take in everything. making these paths almost circular will help people remain focused on the diorama so that they keep seeing details. actually if youve got shep paines book on building dioramas i dont need to explain it to ya, just check out the chapter on laying out a dio.

BTW, good choice with the halftrack

ok, seeing as how i like rebs idea of laying out a dio on paint, i made my own layout:

heres the key: kight green are grassy areas, brown is the road, dark green is the hedgerow and bushes, the dark blue region is the ditch. the medium blue is the general location of the radio conversion kubel, as i havent decided whether it will be just cracshed into the telephone pole in the ditch, or make it look like the grenadiers have simply abandoned it. it could also be partially shot up, with the engine burnt out. the yellow is the flakpanzer, with three to four crewmen up int he fighting compartment. if i can get an interior set for it, i may even try scratching the drivers position using a few resin parts, and add adriver. the bright red are the grenadiers. again exact number is difficult to determine at this point. the two dark red guys will be a couple tankers who had to abandon their vechile. on is wounded. the red x i think i will be a dead german with a bicycle in the road. the random light blue in the ditch behind the flakpanzer will be whatever random equipment i can squeeze in there. im hoping to add a trailer with supplies or a dead horse or something.

kinda long, but i like stuff like that.

I was crossed out!

Sorry I haven't been the most active of members lately. I don't want to feed you excuses, but II really have been very busy. I got a crap load of summer projecst, including 8 books to read! 8! I finished my model, but I don't own a digital camera. I'm getting one soon, and once I do I'll definitely post some pics. So sorry for the long absence, but it sure is good to be back.

I have a lot mroe pics of the actual competition, but frankly I'm too lazy to put them up. So, here they are, pics of the vendor room.

This vendor sold mainly figure kits. For the rules and regs of the forum, it's probably best that you can't see too much in this pic...

OK, now for the real jealousy pics. What I personally bought. Assuming photobucket behaves. I'm really starting to hate photobucket....

Overall view of my stash.

For those of you who like wingy thingies here's what i got:
Starting with a 1/32 resin cockpit from true details for my hawker hunter.

Followed by a hasegawa 1/72 fw-190 d9 with an aires resin detaiul set.

And of course a revell of germany 1/72 ju-290

Now you treadheads may not be impressed. but i have some stuff you guys would liek too. let's start with this: tamiya 1/48 stug III ausf b.

Don't like 1/48 armor? well how about a verlinden resin engine pack for DML King Kitty?

Like superdetailed projects? So do I. DML T-34/76 Mod. 1940 with Aber PE and Trax resin interior.

And now, the gem of my kit collection, the brand new release DML Tiger 1 late production!!!!!!! I got it for only 28$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you may be saying, he went to the nats and that's all he got? (well IMO it's a lot already but there's more) THAT'S RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! Brand new Iwata hp-bcs airbrush with Iwata silent running compressor with built in moisture trap and regulator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, this is a once in a lifetime happening. i NEVER buy this much stuff normally.

So i hope you liekd my pics, and became jealous. Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]
