It Floats and Flies

I started a Group Build for this last year and I was one of the few who did not complete it. Well I'm going to finish it this year and if anyone else who has a flying boat, amphibian or float plane model they'd like to do, I'm going to keep this build going to the end of the year.

I'm doing a 1/72 Hasegawa Kawanishi H6K5 "Mavis" Japanese WWII flying boat and an a 1/48 Fine Molds Savoia S.21 from the Japanese animated film "Porco Roso".

I'll Make May 1st as the official kickoff date for anyone who might be interested. And here's a new badge for the year:

Hey Aurora-7 if it is all right with you can I change my build to 1/72 Roden Albatros W.4 early? Since space is becoming a issue and all I need right now is another 1/48 plane.

Also the plans are so so not Tamiya but should work. Let me know if you need any thing more, I also have Squadrons Albatros book if you need me to check some thing.

Updated your choice.

As for Roden, I was thinking of getting one of their Flexistowe/Curtiss H-16 kits. I was stunned when I saw the price at Squadron jump from $19.99 to $29.99 in one day.

Josh on the floats those round pieces that look like pin marks should be there, should have looked on the back of the box Taped Shut [XX]

As for Roden all there aircraft have jumped up, the Gotha was 16.96 now its 24.96 glad I picked up one. Even the fighters have gone up about four dollers. Its a shame they were good cheap 1/72 WWI aircraft, and did not cost me like Eduard aircraft.

Hmm... put me down for tamiya's 1:48 a6m2-n "rufe". I'm almost done with it, but there's enough to do to put into a GB. This'll give me the excuse to finish it!

I saw that Aircraft Resource Center page when I was looking up what a W4 Albatros was. He did a great job simulating the wood grain of the fuselage.

If you have alot of money you will be able to get the PBY. They go for about $50+ most of the time.

I was unlucky enough to pick one up for $20 a few years ago. I say unlucky because it was the LHS going out of business... Sad [:(]

I was planning on converting my 1/72nd scale Spitfire Mk.22 into a floatplane. Now, I don't think my conversion would be historically accurate, but it's something I want to try my hand at anyway. Would that count? If so, count me in.

Started on the Albatros today, just got the engine done and pics

Not great pics since its hard to take pictures of such a small thing, took me about 2 hours to build making sure every thing fit right.

Just a quick question- what's the end date for this Build? If it's far enough into the future, I'd really like to get in on the action with the ultimate (in my opinion, of course) flying boat, the H-4 Hughes Flying Boat! (Okay, the "Spruce Goose"!) I just need a huge time frame in which to complete it.

Well here's my progress so far... I've decided I want a nice, shiny Beaver, with my own markings, some kind of air taxi, so I'm trying two new things... Bare metal foil and making my own decals. It'll be interesting! I started with the horizontal stabilizors, and I was really pleased, so I covered the vertical stab. too. I need to get the interior done before I do any more on the fuselage, and I need to get more BMF before I do the wings, so this is it for a while.

The hobby craft kit is molded in clear? I guess that makes it easier to manufacture the kit instead of a seperate window piece. Are you modeling a real Beaver or one from your own idea? Tonight, I should post what I've done so far on the Savoia over the weekend.
