Artillery and Field guns GB 06

So Dwight ta-ala, since we are building the same kit, do you have any advice on the painting process of this gun.  I thought about painting each sub-assembly individually.  What have you done so far?

I'll probably start that build this weekend cause I have to finish my first diorama.

Love the badge, Yann..!  Here's a pic of the pattern, which I completed in February.  The resin kit is coming out next week so that's when I'll officialy start on this GB.

That's a cool one djmodels1999.  Can't wait to see the final result.  I love those big cannons.  I can feel the power.  Here is one I made recently, it's an M12 155mm Self propelled gun:

Actually I am doing the Flak 36 kit only, not the 3-in-1.

I would not recommend it since this kit has so many small parts. In the process of assembling mine, I have to clean some small parts. It would be messy if the parts are already painted. One more thing, there are some unclear parts in the instructions so expect some mistakes in the assembly here and there. If the parts are already painted gluing would mess up the paint and leave unsightly marks around the joints.

I have previously built the Tamiya version of the Flak 36 and the Dragon version is much more detailed. I am planning to do a diorama like my previous one in this picture.

Wow! Amazing work dwight.  Your dio looks awesome.  And your FLAK is coming along nicely.  Can't wait to build mine. 

I guess you know what you're talking about.  I'll paint it once completed.  But I have a cheap airbrush with no adjustment and it might be difficult to have the paint getting in every corners.

WOW that looks really good! Awesome work and it even has figures!

My kit comes with 3 figures, which I won't be doing! I'm not much on figures and I can't seem to paint them...I love looking at other peoples work with figures though.

I'm currently painting my first figures right now and it's not that difficult.  They will not be as good as dwight's but I think its a good start.  Give it a try!  The worst can happen is you have to dip it in thinner and do it again.  I've learned so much about modeling this past few months simply because I got the information here and I tried.  Most techniques that I tried turned out fairly good afterall. 

There is a ton of information on this forum, so I use it.

I don't think the type of airbrush matters much if we are painting with one color only. I am still using Tamiya's Basic Airbrush for most parts of my painting work and I think it still does the job for me quite well. Although I agree with you that with this kit, reaching inside the corners will be a major task when painting but then again it would be the same problem regardless which airbrush we use. For those unreachable places, the old brush will do the trick.

By the way, I started doing the bogies last night and boy, there are lots of pieces into it. One wheel alone requires I think 10 pieces.. I think I am booked for the weekend.

Ahh I want in on this so badly, but I can't make up my mind what to build, or if I'll have time to do it. I've got quite a few choices:

Tamiya 88mm flak 36/37

Skif Artillery complex, which is a D-30 122mm howitzer and the MT-LB prime mover

AFV club 8' cannon

Italeri M110A2 SPG

DML MLRS (Hey, that's artillery isn't it)

Trumpeter Karl Morser (soooooo debating on building this one )

Hey!  I would really like to see the Karl Morser or the Italeri M110A2.  Can I ask you how much you paid for the Morser?

But at first, the kit was retailing for $20 less than what it is now, and delivery is free. It's an amazing, but a very large kit. Comes with the railway carriers. It's going to be a part of a mega-diorama that I have planned to complete in a couple of years

I didn't know that website, thanks for sharing.  I have a list of my favorite armor from each manufacturer (with excel )  I've enter their prices at different hobby shop and website. An exhaustive comparison with Udisco.com and luckymodel.com convinced me to buy at militaryhobbies.ca only when there is a good special cause on most models, they are way too expensive, sometimes $10 more.  If you don't know Udisco, you should have a look.  They are located in Montreal and ships everywhere in Canada pretty fast.

Yann, post some pics of the figures. I've got a few that came with the 25 Pdr that I might as well work on, and maybe I can glean some insight from you.

I will get mine tomorrow, going to pic it up at Hannats in London.
This will be my first gun in 30 years. Did the Tammy 88 when it came out but that is so long ago I can hardly remember what it looked like.
The plan is to do an early 36 in Panzer Grey. Appreciate any reference pics.

I am shite at figurines so I will give them away.
Will keep some assesoars such as the distance meeter though...anyway, give me a shout if you are interested!

I've started mine last night, I'm at step 6.  Everything fits like a charm but you have to be carefull reading the instructions cause the illustrations are concentrated.  A lot of options also, you should read the instructions carefully before starting the build, make decisions concerning the options and simply circle the one you choose so you won't make mistake during the build.

Here is what I came up with, for the painting sequence of my Flak 36:

1. Paint the gun assembly

2. Paint the stand separatly (with all four legs mounted on)

3. Paint the wheels separatly

4. Paint the axles before mounting them to the bogeys.

5. Paint the bogeys prior to attach the axles and wheels to it. 

6. Finish assembly and apply a coat of Future

7. Apply decals

8. Paint the camouflage, paint chipping effects and weathering.

I cannot see how all this can be painted in another way, do you?

Completed the bogies as of last night and might be able to start painting this weekend. Here are some progress pics:

I have already attached the metal chain to the gun. 

I'll be painting this in my usual way which is put them all together and paint them.

Hey guys!  What kind of vehicle was used to tow these Flak 36?  I might built one for my diorama.

The thread supplied with the kit is difficult to attach because it breaks into fibers. I used the left over cables from the Tamiya Flak 36 kit. It is a hollow rubber tube that fits perfectly into the Dragon kit's points/joints.

I had a chance to start painting last night and here's what I have done so far.

Nothing special really. I just copied the scheme on the boxart but tried to be a bit more random and irregular.

If I will have the chance, I'll continue the paint job tonight.
