Fall '06 College Student GB
Posted by MortarMagnet on Sunday, August 20, 2006 7:49 PM
Here it is, The Fall '06 College Student GB.  The requirements are:

Must attend college at least half-time. (six credits) There is no cap on age.

The project must be inexpensive, the kit must cost less than $30.

All builds are to be OOB.

Any type of subject is OK:  A/C, Armor, Cars, Space, etc. are all acceptable.

The deadline is Dec. 24, 2006.  This should give some time after finals to finish up.  We must remember that our grades come before the GB, the deadline is a goal not a requirement.

All participants must introduce themselves as students:  This information includes where they attend classes and what they study.

The badge will be completed or suggested soon.  Once we have one, we can wear it.  Any suggestions for additional requirements are welcome.  This is a no pressure GB, have fun and make some friends.

I will be building Revell's F-105D #5840 Arkansas Traveler.

Count me in. I have a 1/144 Revell B-52H sitting on my desk ready to be built. If I get it done by December that'll be awsome!

I will be attending Rutgers University this fall (Part time, 6 credits). I am a ---- year student, (I call it the lifetime learning plan) lol. I have an A.S. from the local community college. I'll be studying Civil Engineering (or History, hehe). I also work part time for Johnson & Johnson doing AutoCAD work.

I upped the kit cost limit to $30.  I think that should let people build armor.  It's still a fairly low cost.

I'm in Mortar....I'll be doing a 1/48 Eduard Yak-3 "Red Devil".

About me-self...

Senior at University of Tennessee (but still a Gator all the way!!)) studying Aerospace Engineering.  I'll be taking 16 credit hours and working a part time job at Standard Aero as a service engineer on the AE3007 engine line.  I'll probably only be able to work on this during the weekend, so it's a good thing the kit I chose has only about 40 parts.

Good Luck to everyone and I can't wait to get started!!

Things could be worse. Suppose your errors were counted and published every day, like those of a baseball player. Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off... the right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.

OHH! OHH! PICK ME! PICK ME!

I've got a few 1/72 P-47's that need building, so put me down for an Academy Razorback, an MPM XP-47H, and an Italeri P-47N.

I am a super-senior at North Carolina State University, also studying AeroSpace Engineering.

Gah! School starts in the morning. Full day of classes.

Well I guess I jumped the gun a bit. My classes start on the 5th. So far the rear stabilizers are assembled and sanded, both wings are assembled, one has been sanded. I also got the landing gear bays painted, and started on the wheels/ tires.

I'll try and slow down for the semester, hehe.

Oh, were we supposed to wait for school to start to start our build?

Anyhow, classes for me started this Wednesday. I've got Propulsion, Boundary Layer Theory, Senoir Design, Experimential Aero III, and "Rise of Modern Science" as my history. I dropped CFD for the semister, but I'll fill it in with VSTOL next semister.

My 3 jugs are together, but still needing paint. I'll post pics soon.

No, you're in.  I don't like deadlines for joining.  Someone can join in December if they want.  As long as there is an occasional picture and an effort to finish, I don't mind.  As a freshman, please take my advise to put classes first over everything.  Don't screw yourself like I did.Smile [:)]

Edit:  Where do you go?  What scale are you building in?

I'm goin to this small community college to get all my freshman classes out of the way so i can transfer next fall. I'm sure no one here knows the cc but I am gonna transfer to Texas A&M f.y.i. My corsair is in 1/48th scale, and don't worry classes are my TOP priority so this one might take a little time.

Good idea.  That's kinda like what I did.  I'm a transfer student.  I almost bought that Corsair this weekend.  I bought some sprue cutters instead.

Well here is a quick update. I finished the wings and tail. I am half way done with the landing gear, and I started the cockpit.

Here is a crappy cell-phone pic from last week of the wing going together. Smile [:)]

Wow mortar I think you're gonna have to count me out on this one. I would have really like to been a part of this group build but I have been swamped with homework. I've got tons of projects and reading and all that crap. Anyways, sorry guys, I just won't be able to find the time. I'll keep track of everyone's work, this was a good idea for a gb. Thanks and sorry for the trouble.

I'll tell you what, I'll leave you in just incase things ease up later on.  You'll be in "tentatively."  If you can't do it don't worry about it.  The amount of work you get can be surprising at times.  I know I have alot more reading to do that expected, so it'll probably take me a good amount of time to finish.  Good luck, keep focused.

This sounds like fun I'm totally in on this.

I'm a Sophomore at the University of Texas and I'll be taking 16 hours this semester. I'm an Electrical Engineering major taking a few math courses, intro to microcomputer systems, engineering physics, and music. I'm pretty sure I can fit the time in for the build and it will be a nice way to relax after all the homework I'm sure I'll be doing. (to add on what someone else said if you're a freshman homework comes first, I found that out the hard way last year hah)

I'll be the black sheep of the build so far building a 1/24 Revell Williams Renault FW19 Formula 1 car piloted by Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 when he won the World Drivers Championship.

PS: I think the kit qualifies for the price rule? lol

Hey Mortar, sign me up as "tenatively"
I don't know what I'll be building yet
I'm attending The Ohio State University as a freshman. My Major is Engineering Undecided. I'll be taking 13 credit hours

Well school started for me yesterday, so I figured id post a progress report.

The cockpit is 95% done, the landing gear is about 1/2 done. Wings and tail assembly are done also.

I hit the P-47N with it's second shade of Alclad II. Only one more shade and then 2 enamels left! Maybe I'll spray a couple of colors tomorrow.

I've not done much over the past week, infact, I've not done anything.  It's hard with work and school together.  This weekend I hope to put some pieces together, we'll see if it happens or not.

I decalled the razorback P-47, and applied an overcoat of Future. It'll get weathered soon. The P-47N needs some more yellow, then blue and OD. The XP-47H needs OD. I hope to finish the razorback this weekend.

Jabbe sounds like you are moving along nicely.

The main landing gear for the B-52 is just about done. One more tire to paint, hehe. I started the engine pylons. Cockpit is done. Once the gear is done I'll get the fuselage together.
