I finished something! Dragon Jagdtiger
Posted by tigerman on Saturday, August 6, 2011 6:30 PM

It seems like forever since I posted a build, but alas, I finished my Dragon Jagdtiger Premium for the Panzerjager GB.

I had to scratch the rods and holders, because the kits just didn't work to thread the tow ropes thru. Now i can see why so many modelers left them off. LOL I sprayed a thinned Tamiya XF 60 Dark yellow mixed with white for the base, followed by XF 58 Olive Green and Model Master Acryl Panzer Schokoladen Braun for the camo. i followed these with washes of ochre mixed with white to tone down the camo, followed by a thinned Burnt Sienna wash. (might have overdone it). I also included a burnt umber mixed with white as a wash, followed by CMK and MIG pigments. I snuck in some dot filtering too, but wasn't as pleased as I'd like with it. I would do the wood over again, now that I picked up a tip and perhaps added some chipping, but that isn't my style. Embarrassed

All critiques welcome. Hope you enjoy!

Next GB idea coming up soon. Wink

Nice work, I really like it. I don't think you over did the wash, and also I don't think you need chips. (not my style either but I'm starting to get into it.) Yes

Super nice build! Everthing looks great. Nice airbrush work as well. I would do minimal chipping. Nothing wrong with a fresh tank.

Great build Tiger, looks just right. The wash is just right. I do like a little bit of chipping, depending on the vehicle. I think none at all works with this.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

This could be a couple of signs of the Apocalypse. Blind Fold

Thanks everyone for the generous feedback. I'm quite happy overall and hopefully learned something from this build. I tried out a few washes that I think worked well in the schemes of things.

Anthony, thanks kindly man. I guess I'm a bit of a cheerleader. i do try to encourage and help if possible. I haven't shared anything in so long I felt almost embarrassed. So glad to move on from this build though.

Thanks JDice! One of these days I will go all out. I was really happy with the camo and have really shied away from drybrushing most of the hull anymore, so I decided to attack it with different washes. I might have put one too many burnt sienna washes on it. It came out a little more tannish then it looked. I wanted to keep a portion of the DY. Oh well.

What I need to do is take notes when I spot an effect I like, such as chipping. Then I could refer to it and not go "hmmm, how should I do that?"

I think we all have a style. We may try to incorporate other's work, but in the end, it still looks like something all our own. Cool

Ha ha, I guess you missed this one, Mike!

I finished this about two years ago after an extensive correction/rebuild of this AMT Space 1999 Eagle.

Tigerman -- I love the Jagtiger, and your model looks pretty good. What I would suggest is to try to do a light drybrushing of light tan over it. The finish is really subdued--could that be what you're seeing when you say that you think that you "overdid" the one wash"--but a DB'ing of tan would make the details pop and really provide some depth to it.

Go easy on it, and you'll see a big change in the impact of the model's finish. Big Smile

Sweet job on the Eagle from Space 1999. I loved that show.

Thanks too for the pointer. I used to be a drybrusher and not a washer. Tongue Tied I just need to trust myself and let go. Like I said earlier, I need to record some notes on my favorite methods of weathering. I was looking for that article Part 2 of your hetzer and I didn't get it. Angry My subscription ran out. Erghhh.

Bill, thanks for the nice words. Your builds are always an inspiration to me.

Hey, just to let you know, I think that Finescale is having a 30% off sale on back issues this week? (month??)

That Hetzer article was published in Dec '08/Jan '09 issues--two parts, so the one you'd be looking for would be the January 2009 issue. You should be able to get it for close to a regular issue price?

Very nice build, Eric. Regarding chipping: everything was new at one point in time, and the transition from new to well-used is a process. Any model is a portrayal of something at a particular point in time, right?

Hey Tigerman, it was worth the wait! Lovely build. You really captured the brutal look of this gigantic vehicle.

I haven't gotten the whole 'chipping' thing down either and am hesitant to try it. Still I suppose if you wanted to you could do a little on the skirts and if you don't like it cover it up with dust or mud Wink

I think the JT is indicative of my style. I like it used, but not abused. I admire others that beat the snot out of their armor builds, but that is their style. The good thing about us all, is that we're individuals, therefore we model in our own unique style. No two are exactly alike.

Yes, I could and still might chip it. Perhaps a little practice on my Jagdpanzer mule before I take a chance on the JT. It took me how many years just to put washes on my builds? Indifferent

This gives me an idea to start a thread on chipping.

Thank you Gamera and RBaer for the nice words.

Exactly my point of http://th164.photobucket.com/albums/u19/chavender/all%20other%20stuff/AT%20Moderator%20stuff/My%20Smileys/th_nerd.gif view too Russ.

A built model is just a depiction http://th336.photobucket.com/albums/n350/blackstorme/th_smiley_drawing.gif of a "moment in time", which basically means you can't know exactly how it looked from one day to the next.

Glad you brought that up.

Dang,http://th1005.photobucket.com/albums/af178/maxicastro/Smileys/th_dancingchicken.gif I still got some loose chickens here......
