I'm no expert but I really like those!

I really like the Matilda,you did a nice job with the camo,weathering is good as is the chipping.I would loose the hay on the Shilka,let the model be seen !!  Just my thoughts.

But,hey great work overall,and welcome to the forums.You can learn a lot here and dont stop posting your work.

well the "hay" (lol) is there because the kit itself is a really horrible kit with hardly any detail , at least my copy was.

I think your weathering skills are excellent. On the par at the least with many of those who show their kits on the site. The Matilda has the sense of a well beaten desert warrior. My knowledge on modern era Soviet vehicles is sparse as best, even though I like the treatments that you have done to portrayal of these vehicles.

The degree of weathering is a personal choice and don't let others say otherwise. With more modern subjects, the degree of weathering may be alot less than seen in previous times. This is because of the modern paints, crew maintanence, etc. That comes from reading the comments from the members who were actually in or have seen the vehicles in action. But it is an art form and express yourself in the way that you feel about it. You have the chops.

My best on your future projects, you have the talent and more. Good luck to you.

Ben, you have some great talent there at 14 already! Your work is quite impressive for any age,and more so because of your youth I agree about the hay on the turret of the Shilka. Way too much up top.  Some around the edges to breakup the outline on the panniers is fine but in the center it starts to get in the way of various functions such as hatches,optics, etc. Also as a favor, I would suggest you post your pics stacked vertically rather than side by side as you did here. Its much easier to scroll up and down to view them rather than work them side to side with the cursor and the mouse.

Ben- 14?  Oh maybe it was a typo... you meant to type 41, right?  No way a 14 years old boy can do those.  I built models when I was your age and they were no where close to yours.  You have talent and you will enjoy your time here at FSM.  Learn all of great tips from those masters...

Outstanding work all around. Lets start at the top . The Soviet export / arab vehicle. It is beautiful the omision of the external tanks is a nice touch. The vehicle also shows a realistic level of weathering , wear and general neglect that would be seen on vehicles in the region.

The matilda simply stunning . The holes on the left front fender, are those for tool mounts . Just throw a little stowage on and cover those. The weathering and wear is outstanding.

The Shilka.......... well I am guessing you used faux fur . The effect is a great idea. i would take scisors and trim the fur down severly at random heights . Then add some visual interest by using long bristles from a paint brush added in small groups . This will give height differences as well as a subtle color shift .

Whatever you do keep building and posting your work . You are a great modeler .

Thnx for posting your work.  One suggestion for you: remember that these are supposed to be actual working machines. In the case of the Shilka: you can't blank off periscopes, air intakes, exhausts, or limit the elevation or traverse of the guns.  Defeats the whole purpose, no?

Always try to think: If I were a tanker, what would I leave handy and clear?  Hope this helps

Ben, you did a bang up job on all of them (speaking as a member who is 3 times your age with about 1/3 your weathering skills).  If you want to take your skills to another level, check out Karl Logan's work (screen name Doog). His weathering is fantastic and his builds have been published in FSM several times.  Keep it up and you'll be giving him a run for his money.

It's great to see new, young talent coming out like this. At age 14, this is better than a lot of older guys' work that I've seen on this and other sites!

Congratulations on a fine little collection. Just one critique--try to get a little brighter lighting for your photos to show off your finishing skill a little better!
