Well.. did a bit more last night.. assembled all the road wheels.. and drive wheels,, idlers..Since this will be a junkyard tank,, I'm going to mix n max the road wheels..The white-gray wheels are the ones from the front page, some are steel, some are rubber ..The kit has steel and rubber also, but with differant centers.. the aftermarket wheels, while fitting the shaft, didn't come with the center caps( bearing covers ).. so to use the Tamiya kit ones, I had to drill out the centers to accomodate the tamiya caps. A 3/16 bit and carefull drilling.. I will have to shorten the axle shafts a tad also..

here's a few pics.. Photobucket:550:0]

Not sure yet on the final config for the road wheels.. going to mix n match...see what looks "junky", maybe drill out a few lug nuts.. etc..Surprise

Made some big progress over the past few days.. and got some work done in the garage to...

First.. I removed the loader's hatch ,once again,, scribing with the trusty blade,, and started adding some PE.  Closed off the machine gun mount as JEB had the big ring around his hatch..

Photobucket:550:0]

added some PE to the loaders hatch..and a scratch built wire handle.Photobucket:550:0]

next. ,, "eyeballed" the cannon to add the comic book fume extractor...cut some aluminum tubuing and the barrel...Photobucket:550:0]

Photobucket:550:0]

then adde a brass tube tip to the end to make it look like the comic book version...Photobucket:550:0]

Photobucket:550:0]

added some hand made handles on the turret,, bent some up.. broke some..oh.. and a coat of primer..Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0[[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]/Photobucket:550:0]:550:0]PE jerry can holder..leaving it empty.. and I might dent it up...[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

nice,, Revolver is one of my fav Beatles albums.. !

Work has begun on the Turret tonight after puttering the garage on a rainy day...

still deciiding on how to tackle the barrle,, the Walker barrel has the fume extractor on the muzzle end, while the comic cannon has it midway.. and also,, there is a slight extension after  the muzzle break,,

Photobucket:550:0]

[added the exhausts,, Photobucket:550:0]

Agree with p38j... my aunt brought five lobsters for only $40 when we were there three years ago.  Her neighbor is a lobster fisherman.  Big Smile  It was AWESOME... of course with lots of butter.

I take it Marc is not a lobster fan?

Isn't a lobster kind of like a glorified shrimp? Those things are ugly as sin, but tasty tasty.

The thing that chaps me about lobster is the high price. Angry And for you Halibut lovers like me, the price of it has skyrocketed over the past some years.

a couple of things play into the price.. 1: fuel costs, ( for the lobster boat )

2: if your buying lobster in a restaurant, your going to pay the $$,, lobsters are kept alive till you cook them, so they have to be kept in a tank with fresh water and O2 being supplied, so its not steak that is kept in a freezer or fridge.

3: the restaurants always make sure to get the top dollar for the tourists...

4: your best bet is buy direct from the boat.. ( you gotta have a connection)... or,, "know a guy"...Whistling

But this one is a "delicacy" when coupled with butter?

Made some more progress last night.. started working on the rear engine grills and covers.. Both PE kits I have ,each have a PE grill cover, but neither fit the Tamiya kit.. so.. I took the Tamiya grill coverm and removed the grill section by scribing with the back of my blade.. a few sanding stick swipes to clean it up and here we are so far...Photobucket:550:0]

Also.. I had to use the Tamiya rear engine hull plate,, the resin one was to small...SadPhotobucket:550:0]

Next,, are the vent grills, these will have to be shortened as I had to shorten the engine deck for the turret replacement.. then the mufflers and exhaust..

Lobster,,yummm,, ever had it grilled ?? Toast

or,, cooked in seawater w beer and garlic,, layered w seaweed, corn on the cob and clams ??..Eatsx5

I'll edit the front page for kits used...

Sounds great except for the seawater and seaweed.

aah,., Tigerman.. you not going to eat the seaweed or drink the seawater.. the food is cooked in it..you put about 3-4 inches of clean seawater in the pot.. add 1 beer, some garlic.. get it boiling.. put the lobsters in.. add a layer of seaweed over the lobbies.. then, your clams.. more seaweed, then the corn.. more seaweed ( you need a tall pot ).. let it all boil for about 10-13 mins.. remove the food and seaweed,, throw the seaweed away.. the salt water and seaweed give the food VERY good flavor... salty without being to salty and the corn comes out very sweet...wicked yummmy ! Honest..

PS.. lobsters aren't beetles.. their crustaceans. ! Whistling

Marc LOL. Yeah, the butter does drown the flavor out I suppose.

I've never had an infamous lobster sandwich, but drool over lobster bisque soup, which I suppose contains a lot of butter. Yummy. Eats

I wonder when everyone is going to realize that lobster sucks, and it's just the gallon of butter that they like? I can think of a lot of things you don't normally eat that I could smother in that much butter that would taste equally as good...

And no one (in the U.S.) eats beetles from their yard/basement/etc, so why would you want to eat a sea beetle? If you saw one of those scurrying across your kitchen, it would get smashed just like the rest of the vermin!

/anti-lobster rant over

So how many kits are you sacrificing to make this beast?

This is just so differently cool to watch. I miss this old comic. Curses, now I'll have to scour ebay.

Ditto Ditto Ditto  Am really enjoying this... great memories!  Now I want to raid your comic stash and read them all again!

You guys all come to Coastal Maine.. we'll read my stash... make popcorn.. and watch Kelley's Hero's..... which I have plans to make Oddball's tank someday to... Whistling

Only if you'll be serving fresh Maine lobster with a gallon of butter. LOL

I loved Sgt. Rock as well as the Unknown Soldier.

Which issue carried the OSS themed story: Sgt:Rock or GI Combat?

IIRC... the OSS stories rotated thru all the WAR mags in DC along with the USS Stevens stories..( which were true stories written by Sam Glazman, who was on the USS Stevens during WWII.. I have a Fletcher destroyer that I want to build as the USS Stevens in the stash.. )..
