Thank you Tojo. Those Tamiya 1/48 armor kits are REALLY nice... I wish they had been around in the late 80s when I decided to standardize my armor build kits in one scale. And unfortunately there is a serious lack of post WWII subjects on there. The few that do exist as kits today are more toys than serious scale models with a few exceptions. I wont be doing any more Tamiya 1/48 AFV kits anytime soon, but that is not because they are not good kits. But instead for what I already have.

Ok, I finally got the stand one... nothing major, just a little plaque that I bought at Michaels last night, some acrylic craft paint for the edging, Tamiya cobblestone cemented down, then spackle, sifted dirt attached with Future for texture, Burnt Umber paint for color, and some spices/seasonings for the foliage... it adds a huge element of atmosphere to the setting now I think...

On to the Meuse!!!

Thanks guys... Wai, those 1/48 Tamiya kits really are great.... and they take up far less shelf space than 1/35 kits do... Who knows? Never say never ;)

The weathering of the tracks is very convincing, so is your work with the AB on the overall camo.

I would like to understand how you went about with the tracks. I have tried to achieve that wet and dirty look with only limited success (= complete failure :)) a number of times.

Sure thing. After the kit was built and the basic vehicle camo on, first I used a brush to apply some Future onto selected areas for mud build up, then I sprinkled on some finely sifted dirt. After that had dried, in areas where I wanted a heavier mud build up I repeated that process. Afterwards I began painting with my airbrush. For a wet mud appearance I work light to dark, for a dried mud appearance I work dark to light. In this case I used (in order) Testors Model Master Acryl Raw Sienna, Polly Scale Dirt, Polly Scale RLM Brown, and finally Testors MM Acryl Burnt Umber. The lighter colors were more thinned and applied more widely on the vehicle. I did not clean my airbrush jar between shades to give some mixture with the previous color used. Each successive color was applied more heavily and more localized until the darkest color. Once it all was dry I used some more Future on the rear most portions of the running gear and sprinkled on some dry foliage to simulate that stuff being picked up by the tracks as the tank drove along. I am thinking about perhaps a light misted coat of more Future on the tracks and running gear to give the mud a more damp appearance. That part is very easy to overdo.
