The instructions show a solid OD. Most pictures I've seen of US Sherman's are all OD, except for the occasional winter camo.
Well it's the third reissue of a Matchbox/ Monogram/ Revell kit, and an oldie.
Those decals go all the way back to matchbox, which had a winter scheme on the box.
So maybe the answer is there.

Am I wrong in remembering a French scheme that went with those partially painted over stars? I only know I've always hated them.

That makes since. I dug out some stars from a Hasegawa M4A3 E8 I have. That still leaves the E8 kit with some Japanese markings that I can use for next years Japanese build.
This is the Revell kit with the Hase stars I just completed for this year's Weekend Madness GB.
