ive just come back from the musium its been a great day out and has changed alot since i went the last time i was there ten years ago,Smile [:)]
today i was armed with a digital camera and took 160 photos before my battries diedAngry [:(!]
so heres some photos for Shermanfreak


the tank was the first Sherman to be sent to the UK as part of the lend lease, it differs from other shermans by having two extra bow machine guns and a gun sight in the turret roof

it just shows how muddy a tank can be
this was driving around the circuit and doing a display about tank warfare, it just shows where the mud can go and how it sprays up over the tank

and whoever asked what the Porche Kingtigers rear looked like ?
i took photos of it and some of the decking and the rear of the turretSmile [:)]
a great day out it took me four hours to go 300 miles there and five hours to go the 300 miles back but im going back soonBig Smile [:D]

now its on display in the musium

If you cannot afford to get to Bovington...then do like me and do the next, or second next best thing.

here are the other photos of the tanks that were driving around there area
the M548 was taking peaple for rides around the arena
the Tiger 1 wasnt there today but i will be going down the as soon as it gets back

Tigerman the shermans painted in gloss is probably to do with it was the first sherman us Brits got and it was named Michael
im not sure of the whole story, plus it might have been painted gloss for parade

Shermanfreak the sherman did wallow in the pig stySmile [:)] the same one the M548 is going througe

Oops forgot this tidbit .... the name "Michael" on the first British Sherman was probably in honour of Michael Dewar, then head of the British Tank Mission. (source - Hunnicut)

Not 100% sure how many came out in this configuration John .... most references just lump them in with M4A1's.

These are just fine Jon ... hi-res eats up too much space ..... is it ok for me to use these on my site ? I'm going to be doing an upgrade in the next few weeks.

Those shots of the Tiger II will really help out with my build.
Interesting to see how that vehicle has changed since the 80's, which is the "version" that I'm doing.

I visited the museum 12 years ago with the Harrow Model Society.
because we were an organised (pre notified) visit we were allowed to climb all over the reserve collection - inside and out
I have sime pics somewhere -mostly Iraqi stuff

If you contact the museum , they have a lot of reference material for sale and will provide a price list.
This includes a lot of plans for modified equipment , it is the official Royal Tank Regiment museum after all.

like these

do you know the history about the tank? was it that they had a porche turret and stuck it on a late Tiger 2 hull?

Yup, I'm aware of the late trax and 18-tooth drive sprockets, and I have the Friul set (ATL-37) to do 'em up right!Wink [;)]

This was vehicle Fgst.Nr.V2, the second prototype vehicle, which was un-zimmed, had the flat front fenders (like the Tiger I), the telescoping snorkel system, and the 18-tooth drive sprockets (which was on the first 2 prototypes).

According to Jentz and Doyle's GERMANY'S TIGER TANKS-VK 45.02 to TIGER II, Fgst.Nr.V2 was completed by Henschel in January 1944, and was found intact by the British at Henschel's Haustenbeck testing facility, where it had the original cross-country tracks fitted (that funky type with the multiple parts per odd link, and kinda blank links between the larger ones, like you see on Jagdtigers). Somewhere between Huastenbeck and Bovington those tracks were exchanged for the late-model tracks it wears to this day.

I'm doing the mid-80's Bovington version, which was a solid dark yellow with balkenkruez on the hull sides.
I've got a list of 27 modifications that I have to make to the kit to represent Fgst.Nr.V2 as it appeared then.

And your pix are a great help! Those funky exhaust pressure testing pipes (well, the one that's left!) were hard to see in all the pix I had.

You don't happen to have any pix of the top of the turret, do ya? The cupola's gone, and I need to see the detail up there. The one pic I do have shows only half the cupola opening, which is, as are all the missing hatches, covered with wire mesh.

i couldnt get that high up but i took a photo of the drivers guners part where there are no hatchs just wire mesh
