COMPLETED !!! - Wegmann March '45 King Tiger

Hi all.
Here's a couple pics of my current project.
The vehicle is based on a Wegmann March 1945 King Tiger.
Still a bit to do on this one, but it's getting there.

Here you can see the distinctive front guards, individual turret spare track mounts (6 per side), camo rings. I've also added the fuel vent lines.

I'm also adding some AA plates on the rear engine screens.

Some battle damage.

Next up, the base colour.
I've decided to go with a primer red base colour with some black pre-shading underneath.

Next up, the partial Dark Yellow camo.

Grey metal primer added to the barel.

You might notice the glossy look. The KT has a coat of Future on in preparation for washes and weathering.

Disastermaster - I told you so, but the colour does grow on you. It's based on a colour scheme in Trojcas fantastic King Tiger book.

doog - thanks buddy. Yeah, I know the shine's a bit 'in your face'. Like I said before, that's the coat of Future. She'll be getting a dullcote once the washes and filters are done. As for paints, all Tamiya Acrylic.

Jurgen, just know that, if you;re using Tamiya acrylic, you absolutely do not need the mythical, overused "coat of Future". You can use Solvaset decal setting solution to perfectly snuggle down the decals (I use it ALL THE TIME!) and forgo that nasty shine.

Furthermore, if you use simple low-odor mineral spirits, you wll have no problems at all with your washes or weathering. Tamiya acrylics are some TOUGH paint!

Use the Future for your furniture or floors; or if you're into aircraft or cars; forget about it for your armor models. All you're doing is adding another gunky layer of detail-robbing lacquer, which then has to be toned down with more detail-robbibg flat coat. Try it on your next build--I promoise, you won't regret it!

Doog - Thanks for the info. I'll definitely give it a go next time without the Future coat.

tigerman/stick man/wbill76 - Cheers boys. This paint scheme is representative of the haphazard application of colour in the rush to get the vehicle out into action during the last stages of the war.

Well it's been 6 months and this baby is still going. I've actually built and finished 5 kits in that time. This one just seems to be a stop/start affair, but over the last couple of days, I've been able to get some more done..

Anyway, I have finally added the schurtzen, AA plates, front and rear mudguards, metal tracks, and whole lot of washes, filters and weathering.

For the schurtzen, I've decided to go with a couple in 3 tone camo, signifying re-used parts.

Again, she not finished yet, but at least she's closer to completion than before

.
Still some details to be added/painted and a little weathering to go. Also, I realise that some areas are still a little shiney, but that will be fixed once the Dullcote is applied.

Comments, suggestion and feedback always appreciated.

WOW, Jurgen--this really stands out as one special build! The colring you have used is very creative and defintely visually compelling! Outstanding weathering as well!

I like when modelers take some chances and create a very personal and unique masterpiece as you have here! WELL DONE!!!!

Just make sure you "silver" those track guide horns, and weather the tracks inside where the wheels travel.

The tracks are still on the list of things to finish. They're still not fixed in place so I'll be removing them for further touch ups

I suppose the direction I've taken with the painting and weathering is the reason this one's been so stop/start. But she's finally starting to come together.

Jurgen, she looks absolutely fantastic! Great paint scheme, very imaginative. Your weathering looks great also. One thing that you might consider is on your last picture of your rearside on the heatshields where you have chipped the paint. Is to highlight the high spots like the corners with a #2 graphite pencil just ever so lightly. Great build Jurgen.

Jurgen the finish really makes this KT stand out. Nice touch with the recycled mud guards, adds even more character to an already outstanding build.

Love it...the color variations by having the barrel in primer grey and some camo'ed side-skirts add a lot of visual interest...what's the background story of this KT?
