I looked that paint job over again and again, and it's the best I've ever seen on a well used tank. The paint chipping alone is so real that in a black & white photo one would mistake it for the real thing. I'm surprised that we don't see smoke comming out of the barrel!

This King Tiger is the "mark" for the rest of us

Wow, I'm really blown away by all the comments guys.
Thank you so much. I've learnt alot from this build and have picked up many new techniques which will hopefully help me improve.

Wirraway -
without having documented evidence, I would say that it would be quite possible
at that late stage in the war. Like you say, factories were rushing vechiles out
as quick as they could, hence the partial yellow camo colour. I aslo think being late
war also allows you a little more artistic licenceWink [;)]

Manstein's revenge -
the paint scheme is based on the KT's of 3/s.Pz.Abt 510 (Oblt.Helpup)
in the Kassel area, Germany, April 1945. It's referenced in Trojcas'
excellent King Tiger book. Other than the paint scheme, there is no
other information provided. It was just so different, I had to do itSmile [:)].

Again, many thanks.

Cant say any more than whats already been said.  Outstanding work.

Just one question from an armour newbie. Even at that late stage of the war, would an AFV be in the field without any national/unit markings ?  I imagine that tanks were moved out of the factory ASAP, did the Germans cut some corners ?  Or were things just too chaotic to paint markings ?

Well, all I can say is........you nailed it. Probably the best late K2 I have ever seen, and that includes published builds. You should enter this build in competition somewhere, it is a winner.

You did a fantastic job on the weathering. I agree with the Doog, everything looks impeciably in order.

I have to say that this is as close to a "perfect" model as I have ever seen. It's simply a work of Art--I have nothing but the highest praise for it; I can't find a thing to criticize. The paint, weathering, detail, and overall presentation is just of the absolute highest order.

My sincerest congratulations on setting a new standard here! I'm awed! Bow [bow]

Love it...the color variations by having the barrel in primer grey and some camo'ed side-skirts add a lot of visual interest...what's the background story of this KT?

Jurgen, you've really turned out a beauty here. Lots of little stuff to draw the eye with the mix/match of colors and finish. Thumbs Up [tup]

Jurgen the finish really makes this KT stand outThumbs Up [tup]. Nice touch with the recycled mud guards, adds even more character to an already outstanding build.

Jurgen, she looks absolutely fantastic! Great paint scheme, very imaginative. Your weathering looks great also. One thing that you might consider is on your last picture of your rearside on the heatshields where you have chipped the paint. Is to highlight the high spots like the corners with a #2 graphite pencil just ever so lightly. Great build Jurgen.Thumbs Up [tup]

Many thanks guys.
It's not the type of camo/finish that appeals to everyone, but it does grow on you.
Just putting the final touches on now, so she should be done in the next day or so.

Very impressive so far, I've been wanting to do a late version myself. This one is going to be a keeper!

Thanks doogSmile [:)]. I really appreciate that.
The tracks are still on the list of things to finish. They're still not fixed in place so I'll be removing them for further touch ups Wink [;)]

I suppose the direction I've taken with the painting and weathering is the reason this one's been so stop/start. But she's finally starting to come together.

WOW, Jurgen--this really stands out as one special build! The colring you have used is very creative and defintely visually compelling! Outstanding weathering as well!

I like when modelers take some chances and create a very personal and unique masterpiece as you have here! WELL DONE!!!!

Just make sure you "silver" those track guide horns, and weather the tracks inside where the wheels travel.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well it's been 6 months and this baby is still going. I've actually built and finished 5 kits in that time. This one just seems to be a stop/start affair, but over the last couple of days, I've been able to get some more done..

Anyway, I have finally added the schurtzen, AA plates, front and rear mudguards, metal tracks, and whole lot of washes, filters and weathering.

For the schurtzen, I've decided to go with a couple in 3 tone camo, signifying re-used parts.

Again, she not finished yet, but at least she's closer to completion than before Big Smile [:D].
Still some details to be added/painted and a little weathering to go. Also, I realise that some areas are still a little shiney, but that will be fixed once the Dullcote is applied.

Comments, suggestion and feedback always appreciated.

Jurgen, this looks awesome! I love the camo scheme, it's different, but fantastic! Great work, I can't wait to see more of this beast!

Doog - Thanks for the info. I'll definitely give it a go next time without the Future coat.

tigerman/stick man/wbill76 - Cheers boys. This paint scheme is representative of the haphazard application of colour in the rush to get the vehicle out into action during the last stages of the war.

Cheers,
Jurgen.

Going to be very interesting indeed, definitely not something you see everyday and it's got a strange appeal for it. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Thumbs Up [tup]
