Revell's New 69 Nova WIP's 1/13

   Mike, just stopped by to say "hay" and let you know I like it alot! Yes "transparent red". I think I painted at least 3 or 4 car models that color back in the day....

I know there are some differences (quarter windows shaped a bit differently, front end treatment, etc.) but since there aren't any kits for this year I think the '69 body comes the closest.  I guess it'll just have to do!!  LOL

 Yeah this is a real treat for sure my friend. As I had mentioned in my initial posting on this build, since this is my first auto since High School, so far it has been smooth sailings!!

 The only issue I am encountering right now is the fit of the seats.. It seems that the lower portion is a little wider than the upper section which results in a funky seam.. Just trying to figure out the best possible way to have less of a seam than I'll tackle the seats..

 As for updating it to a 74 Nova.. It may be a lil hard b/c the later Nova's were more squared off than the earlier ones.. I believe Amt/Ertl has a 76 Nova which would be more suited for what you want to represent..

 I know my local Hobby Shop have a few 76's in stock.. But anywho you'll love this kit for sure!!

Wow!  I just happened across this thread and I have to say...it's lookin' good!!  I just ordered this same kit a couple days ago and it's cool to see someone else's build in progress before I screw something up on mine...lol.  My intention is to build the kit to represent a '74 Nova SS I had back in the early eighties.  Not sure yet how I'm going to modify (or scratchbuild) the grille and tail-lights, but I'll figure something out...I hope!

 Thank you for the kind words.. I remember using a rattle can of Candy Apple Red on the original Revell 41 Willie's back in Junior High and falling in love with it!!..

 I too am looking forward to seeing her in the finish.. Just nervous with applying it.. Question, since this is my first auto build since High School, what technique should I use to get that wet mirror finish?

Howdy all,

  Over this weekend I narrowed it down to a sweet arsh colour.. I am going w/ Candy Apple Red(Transparent) in a rattle can.. BUT I decided to decan it and air brush it instead..

 Knowing the fact I need a base colour, I decided to go with the Alclad line.. I first sprayed with Alclad Gloss Black as a the enitial base coat..

 The base coat looks sweet but as I was abing, I was switching between the black and the thinner..

 Did not realize that I had a teeny tiny bit of silver..So I now have a sweet lookin base coat of Metalic black... GGgrrr

 I pressed on.. So I sprayed the hood that I was not going to use three colours and the black was the fourth colour.. I used Polished Aluminum, Duraluminum & Gold.. From left to right

I am totally stoked by how the Gold looks so I am going with the darker Candy Apple which in a way looks like it has a dark cherry tint. I know the hood is a bit rough but I just wanted a quick view of the colour differences..

 The other three choices looked great but for me at least did not suit the Nova.. Here are a few pix...

 I also installed the engine with the exception of the exhaust manifolds and a few other parts since the body is not permanent..

 Ah yes the Craigers.. Installed them on the rear wheels and they sure look mean..!!

 Easy?? Kinda sorts.. It  took a lil practice b/c I too was a little nervous in terms of working with Alclad non the less chrome.. One thing I think scares me the most is if I were to mask over the Alclad once cured for a few days.. This is more for NMF'd aircraft..

 I here it is really tough once dry b/c once the tape has been pulled, nothing comes up with the tape but.... GGrrrr

 Anywho, I sprayed about four light coats of the chrome and this is how they turned out.. Since I am not all to familiar with this stuff, I figurred light coats would work just fine!!

 So a certain Camero is lookin for Ralley rims huh?? Do you mind if they are already done up w/ the Alclad Chrome? If not there yours..!!

 As for the tires, they are plan Jane with no writing on them whats so ever!! And thank you fer the comments and suggestions..

 Well I tackled the Crager's and wow... In a previous posting, I mentioned that I took off the factory chrome with the aid of amonia.. Well once again, Alclad has yet to let me down..(knocken on wood) I started off by air brushing Alclad's gloss black.. After letting it sit for about an hour maybe a lil less I began light coats of Alclad's Chrome..

 The results are unbelieveable... I am not sure if I am going to do this but, how would the tires look with a "red wall"? Kind of like how the original Hot Wheels were!! Whadya think? A lil over the top?

 Anywho, here are a few pix.. Hope ya'll enjoy!!

 LMAO... O my gosh I am laughin so hard I have tears!! The dash was ab'd flat black then a satin finish was sprayed on..

 As for the actual instrumentations, thats called a decal.. Lol They give you two options, one is the stock variant while the other is more modern for the drag Nova..

 HOLY COW... Thank you fer reminding me Sean, I almost forgot to apply the decals for the console gauges.. Phew glad I posted seriously!!

 That wouda sucked later on when she was buttoned up!! Glad you liked and thank you for the compliments..

Mike - I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this Blip up on the forum.  Wow my friend that dash just makes me Green with envy. How did you make it look so crisp ? Excellent work, even the ingnition lock on the column  looks ready to stick the key in. 

The console is made up of four gauges and should have a split separating the left from right 

The guage color for the Nova is Silver not white (Camaro Pictured)  I am glad to see you have un~tarped the nova and started work on it again.

 It sure has been awhile but I took the Nova off the back burner.. A fellow member wanted to see me tackel it so be it..!! Lol

 What really got me goin besides chattin with Sean, I picked up Reveel's new 68 Dodge Charger R/T and what a beaut..

 BUT.. Lo & Behold the kit also gives you Cragers rims and I have been searching hi n lo for the ones I wanted to use..!! Tada

 However I had to buy a second kit b/c the rims come in two sizes.. Smaller rims for the front and larger ones for the rear slicks for the drag variant.. The two R/T's wont go to waste fer sure!!

 The engine is almost complete with the exception of adding on the exhaust manifolds and the air cleaner. The A.C in it self is a whole other story..

 The interior is 90% complete with the exception of the front seats.. I can't remember who but there is another gent who is building the same exact car and wondered if he ran into this problem..

 The upper and lower portions of the seats fit rather poorly.. The upper section is a little more narrower than the lower half which means some sanding and dry fitting

 Other than that I truly love this kit and it has been a blast thus far.. There are a few more odd n ends that I need to do before I can apply the paint to the body and also have to clean up all the major components that will receive the Polished Chrome by Alcad..

 Which reminds me, I am in the process of removing the factory chrome from the Cragers as I type.. Aahh the smell of Lemon Amonia.. However it gets the job done with out a hitch..

 Anywho Sean are you ready fer some updates my friend? Well without further delays, here they are.. Comments welcomed..

 PS, do apologize for the pix, usually the flash helps out a lot in terms of the detail.. well tonight it must have had an off day!!..

Butz, Great Car Kit and Progress. This will be a nice project to follow, I hope to pick up some new tips with your progression. I have many of "The Old Pro"  Nova kits hid away in my stash. Had a '69 SS 1/1 myself years ago but it met a sad fate. Hey that Nova you posted sure looks like a '73 vintage. Since you have a soft spot for '67 RS Camaro's here is one of my old project cars still looming about out on my Dad's ranch in Colorado. He is always wanting me to do something with it as he claims he gets tired of people "pestering" him about it. When in fact he enjoys the company at his age... 

Nice to see a WIP thread up here--we get far too little of them here!

This looks really nice! I have to try that ALclad stuff--is it difficult to work with? I really like the results there!

I'll be watching this post! 

HI That's a great start you have made on that Nova kit. I really like what your doing with it and look forward to seeing it finished. I owned a 69 Nova V8 4speed with Keystone mags and 60series Tiger Paw tires and I can tell you it was a fun car to drive.
