A Jeep for Jenn
Posted by the doog on Friday, September 23, 2011 7:27 PM

Hi all,

I've been quietly working on this model for my fiance'; Jenn. She was thinking about buying one of these until she looked into the gas mileage. Sad So I told her I'd build her one instead, and she could get it with whatever color or options she'd like!

This is the "Daisy's Jeep" from the "Dukes of Hazard" series kits. I built it as a regular jeep. The color is Tamiya Mica Red Metallic, sprayed from the can over a base of Metallic Gold.

All in all it's not a bad kit, and I was pretty happy with the ease of build, although the windshield hinges were quite the struggle to get to fit properly. The directions could have been a little clearer in that part.

I decided to go without much chrome, as it just was more attractive in a subdued scheme.

The camel-toned seats are a custom mix of Tamiya Desert Yellow + a smidge of Gloss Yellow with Clear added to impart a gloss sheen. It was weathered with MIG powders, acrylic washes of craft store paint, and oil washes.

The "Big Bad Jenn" is hand-painted, as is the license plate.

I gave it a nice wood steering wheel and a nice color-coordinated purse in the front seat made from a Verlinden rucksack with a lead foil strap. Proper gear for a Master Shopper, of course, Smile I also had t make the gas cap there. The CB antenna is a guitar string. I used Future floor polish to glue in the window, as per a suggestion from p38jl--thanks, Chris!

The engine is pretty rudimentary. I didn't bother plumbing it, as I have no idea where to even start--reference wasn't easy to come by for this model engine.

And the weathering of the underside,...

Hope you like it! Jenn sure did, and it's always nice to make a model for someone that's close to you and see their enjoyment of your efforts!

Questions or comments about the kit always welcomed! Big Smile

I love stuff like this that is off the beaten path.

The tire cover is a nice touch.

My wife was also interested in a modern JEEP,until we saw the MPG.

Karl,

Looks good.  The finish looks shiny, so I assume you modeled a "well maintained" Jeep that is a little muddy, rather than a beat-up one.

Hey, thanks, TD! This was definitely outside of the "norm" for me, but I"ll build just about anything to put a smile on Jenn's pretty face! Smile The tire cover is actually an "inside joke" between she and I. I once recorded a cover version of the song "Big Bad John" substituting her name, and re-wrote the lyrics to sing about a certain shopaholic who forestalls a tragedy inside a Kohl's department store....Embarrassed....it was hilarious, lol!

Thanks too, for looking in, Griffin! I appreciate the Yes's!

Wayne, thanks, man! We were surprised at how nasty the MPG was on the Jeep. Too bad, cuz we would have had fun in it--but it's really not a great traveling vehicle!

WOW--you still own a Lincoln?! Surprise Cool! Love those old cars!

Hi Paul! Thanks too!! Jenn actually asked me to "muddy it up" for her--she's quite the off-roader; you should see her on a dirt bike! She's not afraid to get dirty! Just what a dirty biker like me needs! Big Smile

Thanks again, guys! I appreciate you all looking in!

Again Karl your work is great. You are really "cranking" these kits out as of late.

One question though where is Jenn? Maybe a figure of her standing next to her Jeep.

Yeah!  That's what I'm talkin!!!

By the way, looks good---I might have treated the wheels a little differently since it is a "chick" vehicle...overall, very nice.  By the way, what is the mpg on one of these MOJO's???

Nice work, Karl. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the spare tire cover.

Regards,

Jeff

Thanks for looking in and commenting, IBuild48! You know, I wish someone would put out a line of contemporary 1/25 figures already! I bought some the other day, but they're all "50's-ish" poses and hairstyles. It would be cooler than heck to have some figures to go with your cars!

It's been good to be back at the bench and turning them out again! Thanks for the comments!

Manny--I talked to some people who owned these and they said they get about 16-17mpg highway. That's pretty poor! Nice to tool around in, but certainly not for driving 12 hours back to NY when need be?!

What would you have done with the wheels? I'm genuinely curious? Thanks for commenting, bud!

Jeff--thanks for looking in, too, friend! You'd get a real roar if you heard the "inside joke" song that I recorded for "Big Bad Jenn"! (Sung to the tune of "Big John", the miner's song). I have to remember the lyrics.....they were hilarious!

Thanks again, guys! Big Smile

I dig it overall---really like the hand-painted spare cover...

I'd probably have left the wheels in chrome...something about the color of a vehicle and the tires being the same just doesn't look good to me...

How'd she like it? Heart

Nice build Doog.  Nice to be able to build a model for someone close to you.  Glad she liked it.

The MPG on most Jeeps is pretty bad.  For what it's worth I get over 20 mpg in my GMC Sierra.

Manny, Jenn loved it! She thought it was the next-best-thing to a real one! And the purse really put it over the top!

Thanks too, Mac! That's about what I get in my Dodge Dakota--not too bad, really. But I miss my 40mpg Chevette! Indifferent
