Hi all,
I've been quietly working on this model for my fiance'; Jenn. She was thinking about buying one of these until she looked into the gas mileage. So I told her I'd build her one instead, and she could get it with whatever color or options she'd like!
This is the "Daisy's Jeep" from the "Dukes of Hazard" series kits. I built it as a regular jeep. The color is Tamiya Mica Red Metallic, sprayed from the can over a base of Metallic Gold.
All in all it's not a bad kit, and I was pretty happy with the ease of build, although the windshield hinges were quite the struggle to get to fit properly. The directions could have been a little clearer in that part.
I decided to go without much chrome, as it just was more attractive in a subdued scheme.
The camel-toned seats are a custom mix of Tamiya Desert Yellow + a smidge of Gloss Yellow with Clear added to impart a gloss sheen. It was weathered with MIG powders, acrylic washes of craft store paint, and oil washes.
The "Big Bad Jenn" is hand-painted, as is the license plate.
I gave it a nice wood steering wheel and a nice color-coordinated purse in the front seat made from a Verlinden rucksack with a lead foil strap. Proper gear for a Master Shopper, of course, I also had t make the gas cap there. The CB antenna is a guitar string. I used Future floor polish to glue in the window, as per a suggestion from p38jl--thanks, Chris!
The engine is pretty rudimentary. I didn't bother plumbing it, as I have no idea where to even start--reference wasn't easy to come by for this model engine.
And the weathering of the underside,...
Hope you like it! Jenn sure did, and it's always nice to make a model for someone that's close to you and see their enjoyment of your efforts!
Questions or comments about the kit always welcomed!
